BRAND NEW ALIENWARE 17R3 GPU CRASHES

Hello Everyone, I hope, here I can get some answers to the problems I´ve been having:

I will start at the beginning:

I received my brand new Alienware 17 r3  on Monday august 15, I ordered the 6820hk processor, GTX 980m UHD 4k display and the 256gb SS drive and with windows 10 pro. On the very first power up I got the Alienware logo and then the screen went black and stayed there so I had to do a hard reboot, on the next boot It got to a few of the very first config screens and the it crashed again, needing another hard boot, on the third try the same happened so I called technical support. I was told to perform a diagnostic and after a few minutes everything passed ok, so I was told it might be a faulty installation and I was sent a Dell USB with the installation, and an email with a link to download and create a USB for a clean installation.

After performing a clean install, the system finally allowed me to access windows and everything seemed to be working, I started installing the hardware drivers one by one from chipset to the integrated graphics etc.. and it all went fine till I installed the Nvidia Drivers for my GPU, then the system crashed again mid install, again I had to reboot. finally on the second try the driver finished installing but a few moments later it again crashed now a BSOD and an automatic reset, this ware all the drivers from Dell, so I started trying out different drivers from the latest ones on the manufactures page, thinking this might solve the problem, it did not, only changed from hard crashed to bsod to black screen after loading screens. I did two more windows clean installations just to be sure and updated the bios to a new version that was available on the dell drivers page thinking this might solve the problem, but at last It did not.

The next day August 16 I called technical support again, I explained all what I had done and this time technical assistance remotely accessed my computer to run some test only to send me to an authorized repair center to have it further analyzed,  I went there the next morning and to my surprise this was a very modest repair shop, and the attendees had never before seen an Alienware, I was reluctant to leave it there but,  it did have dell certification, so I reproduced the problem, just accessing anything related to the gpu makes the system crash, the attendee told me they would run some tests and I would get a diagnosis the very same day. I received no such call, so a I called back and they told me they had not identified the source of the problem, but replacing the motherboard or the hard drive should fix it, I told them I would call dell to ask for a replacement since the system was brand new, and that I didn't authorize them to change any part, this was Wensday August 17.

I called Dell once again and told them everything that had happened so far and in response a new ticket was opened, and they said I would get a response in the next 7 days, I told them this was unacceptable and demanded to talk to a supervisor, again I had to explain everything done so far, and they told me in the next 24 hours I would be contacted with instructions to proceed with the replacement. the 24 hours went by and the next day August 18 I picked up my system from the repair shop, they still had no clue and told me they would send a report informing Dell of the problem in my pc, I called Dell once again and had to go through the whole process again telling them everything that had transpired only to be told that the ticket was still open and that the next day I would be contacted.

Friday came and went and just before closing hour I called once again only to be told exacly the same as before, finally today I write this in hope that someone might help me I don't know who to call I still hope this can be driver related and somehow I can still fix it, or at least get confirmation that I can get a replacement, I´m truly disappointed by this ordeal, to pay almost $3,000.00 usd for a laptop only to have to spend hours re-installing  the OS, drivers, taking a brand new computer to a shady repair shop and calling an offsite call center for 5 days straight and get absolutely no reassurance or confirmation that anything is being done or at least some follow-up so I don't have to talk to a new rep and go over everything all over again, is really frustrating.

Thank you all in advance I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

*forgive my poor English is a second language.

My Insirion after the Windows 10 Anniversary update.......video-issues.

My first post in more than 5 years, so I guess Dell is an okay product, although........now I'm in serious trouble and I think it's not even a Dell-problem but more an issue caused by the famous Microsoft mafia.

The problem:

My Inspirion 15R came with an OEM W7 which worked fine even after the Windows 10-update last year.

It started after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update on the 9th of August 2016.
Video's and some graphics won't play properly and in some cases Chrome crashed stating that there was a problem with "WebGL"

The problems got worse until at some point the Inspirion lost its inspiration and refused to start up due to: "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (atikmpag.sys) and subsequently kept re-booting sometimes giving messages such as "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED", etc.

During those re-booting sessions the menu appeared from which I could "restart", "diagnose", "repair" and further down the menu even could "reset" with or without file-saving.

Re-setting, diagnosing, repairing.......nothing changed to booting of my Inspirion.

My biggest concern were the files on the laptop.....not the laptop itself or the great W10, but my personal and business files.
At some point I managed to start up the laptop in safe mode and retrieve my files, so that concern is gone.

Next step was a total reset of my laptop without keeping files and re-install Windows and that's how far I got.

I start 24 hours ago and all seems fine until I noticed that the screen stayed black and only the HDD "light" was flickering a bit; something was in process.
Unfortunately I had to turn off the laptop; people have to sleep sometimes.

This morning I started up the laptop, but now it doesn't get any further than a loop of re-boots, giving those weird messages about exceptions, video and nopages ending up in a blurred (partially black, partially blurred and scrambled) screen.
The HDD indicator is flickering.

I've tried:
- removing battery and powercable and push and hold the on/off switch for at least 30 seconds repeatedly: nothing
- on start up: F2, F12; doesn't bring me any further apart from some diagnosing
- on start up: F4, F5; nothing
- on start up: ESC repeatedly: nothing

Now I'm staring at a partly scrambled screen with a happy flickering HDD indicator.

What should I do apart from throwing my Inpiration in the garbage-bin?

How to get a battery replacement in Russia?

Dear Dell company,

I bought Dell Inspiron 17 5737 laptop in July 2014 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

In December 2015 my MR90Y battery died. Since then I tried to find a genuine Dell MR90Y battery in different Russian Dell production resellers and distributors but they all are either Dell Servers resellers or simply have no Dell batteries.

Then I tried to order a battery from the USA Dell website, but it says - there is no way to deliver it to Russia. I tried to buy in on Amazon.com - the same effect - they cannot deliver it to Russia.

Is there any way to find a proper Dell MR90Y battery in Russia at all?  If no - what you suggest to do? I like my laptop and I am sure I am not the only one who suffers in Russia from the same problem.

Dear Experts,

I have XPS L502X series laptop. It have a strange problem. It doesn't starts in normal way.

1) First plug the AC adopter with battery connected and leave it for some time.

2) Now remove the adopter and then try to start laptop with only battery connected. It starts.

Some time it took so long to start with this technique.

Some time laptop will never starts may for 2 to 3 days. Then automatically starts with above method.

I went to local service provider but he is not able to solve this problem.

After research i came to know that, there is a charging circuit available on mother board.

This may leaks and create a problem.

Can any one helps me on it?

Laptop won't startup after dell updates

I have a latitude 7350 laptop and was prompted this morning by the dell assistant to do several updates - I think there were 6 in total but 1 was excluded as it related to bios update.

I accepted the updates, and left them going, then when I came back to my laptop 10 minutes later it will no longer start up.

When you power on, a dell screen will appear, followed by another dell screen, then windows starts for a fraction of a second and then immediately says 'shutting down'. This is exactly what then happens every time I boot up.

Any thoughts for how to recover this as I can't see any options to deviate from this loop.

DELL XPS 15 UHD - display problem

Hi to all helping souls out there,

I bought a Dell XPS 15 (i7, 16GB, 4K res, 500GB HD, Nvidia GTX 960M, WIN10 SP1...) about a month ago and from day 1 it used to show a pop-up error "display driver stopped working" but it wasn't that irritating since it popped-up from time to time.

BUT...a few days ago I updated the display drivers and everything went south pretty fast. The screens resolution isn't smooth (big color banding issue) which is noticeable when I work in photo editing programs and when I surf the internet. Also, the screen slightly flickers every 30 seconds or so which is pretty annoying for an almost $3K laptop. Also, the screen loses it's color settings and a hint of red fills out the screen. All in all I'm veeeery disappointed with this purchase because the XPS 15 is far from the specs it offers. Very buggy and not as half as fast as it should be. Can anyone tell me what's the deal?

Tap on touchpad moves mouse pointer up a few pixels, so click either misses target or doesn't register

$

I have a brand new Latitude E7470 (Windows 10 Pro) which has some good and some (surprisingly) awful bits, but so far the most surprising and frustrating is that when I tap the touchpad - which acts as a left click - about 90% of the time the mouse pointer moves a few pixels - maybe 10? - before the click event is registered. This doesn't sound like much, but it makes the touchpad at best incredibly frustrating, and at worst unusable.

To clarify: I'm moving the mouse pointer using the touchpad (which works pretty well). I position the mouse pointer over a clickable item - a link in a web page, the "x" to close a tab, a button, etc. - and then use the single tap motion, which should register the same as the left mouse button below the touchpad. And it does register that left click, but the mouse pointer visibly moves several pixels - most often up, but occasionally left or right or diagonally. As a result, the click event either doesn't register, or more likely the pointer isn't over the clickable component anymore so it's like I clicked above or beside it.

I've spent hours experimenting with this, including going back and forth between the new E7470, my ~4 year old Precision M4700, and Macbook Air, just in case this is something weird about how I tap. No matter how carefully (and unnaturally) I click tap on the E7470, the pointer moves. On the other two laptops the pointer never moves when I tap, and simply registers the tap/click event where the pointer originally was.

Also, the pointer does not move when I use the mouse buttons below (or above) the touchpad, only when I tap on the touchpad.

I've tried resetting the defaults in the Dell Pointing Devices app - I hadn't actually changed them myself, but I went through and clicked "Default" and then save for each page in the app - but that made no difference. I find that setting the tapping speed lower - Sensitivity->Tapping->Tapping Speed - seems to help a bit, but for smaller items like the close button on Chrome tabs, the pointer moves enough that it misses most of the time.

Any suggestions besides swapping out the laptop?

Inspiron 1750 - Hard Drive Crash (Windows 7)

After windows 10 auto install I uninstalled it and then couldn't access the wireless network. After researching and talking with Dell support, they recommended back-up files and created a reboot disc and reinstall default configuration from factory. I did all that and now my system won't load Windows. Black screen with curser in upper left corner.

NOW, I read that Windows 10 was NOT tested or recommended for my model!! Not happy!

Battery warning

Hi

I have an old Latitude E6230 and has for years been annoyed with the malware Dell ships that pops up the "Your battery is able to charge normally. However it is reaching the end of its usable life" (and similar) warnings. I started getting these messages when I had typically around 7 hours of battery time, the following more severe message when I had 4 hours of battery time, and the "has reached the end of its usable life" when I still could get 2 hours.

This has been reported several times in this forum but the most common solution ("Dell Battery Meter") does not work, instead they have hid the disable option deep in group policies (en.community.dell.com/.../19317355)

So Dell is obviously trying to get me to buy a battery I don't need just to get rid of the annoying popup, and made it very difficult to disable. I.e. it's a malware, and most of all it's highly disrespectful to their customers.

My question is, does Dell still ship this with new computers? The battery has survived the rest of the computer som I'm looking to get a new computer rather than buying a new battery. I will not support this kind of behaviour so I'd like to know if Dell is still an option.

Precision 5510 reboots whenever I awakes from sleep, if power sources has changed

Hi everyone

Months ago I did have this issue, but after the latest TB15, Thunderbolt and other driver updates, the issue disappeared. However, for the last month I’ve had to disconnect or connect to a power source, before I put the computer to sleep, if I know the next place I wake it up again will be different from the current. I've disabled hybernation.

Every driver and BIOS is up-to-date but Dell Command 2.2.0 keeps notifying about the Intel(R) Thunderbolt(TM) 3 Firmware Update (532,3 kB, 01-07-2016).

When it installs it with success, it reappears at the next check. However when I download the driver manually, it says it’s already up-to-date.

My specifications are:
Dell Precision 5510
Xeon E3-1505M, 32GB ram, 4K, M.2 512GB
Service Tag: H94QG72
Windows 10 64bit Pro build 10586.545

I don't think it would help me to start from step 1 again, as everything is up-to-date

Event Viewer shos:
EventID 6008 shows unexpected shutdown (from the time I closed the lid) - but no errors or warning from that time. Seems it executes the error, when I power on the system.
EventID 41; System restart without proper shutdown
EventID219; "The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\INT3400\2&daba3ff&2.

I really hope somehone has a solution, as this really takes the joy out of the product.

Dell Precision 5510 Wireless Hotkey - only disables BT

Hi all

Have just added latest driver CAB, v.A03,  for teh Precision 5510 to our MDT infrastructure and run a W7 x64.  All okay with the exception of the wireless hotkey functionality (Fn-PrtScr).  It's only disabling/enabling Bluetooth and not wireless as well.  All other Fn key combinations seem to be working okay.  Users could disable wireless via Mobility Center but this isn't ideal.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
