XPS 15 Wake on Lan

Has anyone had success in getting the XPS 15 (9550) to work with wake on lan on either the local network (WOL) or the wide network (WOW).

I’m somewhat experienced in WOL/WOW with various computers over the years, but have not been able to do so with the XPS 15.

Because the XPS 15 has no built in ethernet port, it requires the use of a USB 3.0 or Thunderbolt ethernet adapter.

I am currently using the Anker 3-Port USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (RTL 8153 chipset + USB Ports VL812 chipset according to online specs). With the Anker adapter, the ethernet works very well. However, I can’t WOL/WOW to work using my time tested procedures.

The XPS Bios Power Management Tab has support for Wake on WLAN and USB Wake Support. I configured both to be active. I also configured System Configuration/USB PowerShare as active.

I downloaded the latest drivers for the Anker adapter (Dec 2015) and found the expected options for WOL/WOW in the Device Manager/Network Adapers/Realtek USB Gbe Family Controller/Power Management and Advanced tabs.

Upon shutting down the XPS, the green indicator light on the Anker adapter also shuts off, which causes me to suspect that there is no power with which to accept the magic packet signal. However, the USB 3.0 hub is powered to some degree, enough to start charging an iphone.

If anyone has had any success with wake on lan with the XPS, or has any ideas/recommendations, please advise.

Following the instructions on how to install and dual boot Ubuntu 16-04 with the existing Win 10 I changed the EUFI from RAID to ACHI. However, upon booting, access to the SSD was lost and with it, apparently, access to the EUFI. Hence, when turning the laptop on, the backlight for the keyboard comes on for awhile then goes dark followed soon after by the power. Nothing is displayed on the screen. So, it appears my laptop is bricked. Plugging in a Windows recovery USB drive doesn't appear to do anything and neither does plugging in a USB DVD drive with Ubuntu.

Dell Inspiron 13 (7359) clean Windows 10 install error

Just purchased a Dell 7359 laptop but the HD that it came with is incredibly slow.  Laptop felt like something 20 years old.  I decided to purchase an SSD for it and picked up a 480GB Eco3 Mushkin.  I want to do a clean install so I downloaded the Win10 Dell recovery media and am following the steps from here:   I created a bootable USB drive and was able to follow the steps until I selected "Recover from a drive" as per the instructions.  Regardless of whether I chose "Just remove my files" or "Fully clean the drive" the following screen shows "There was a problem recovering your PC" with "Cancel" being the only option.

I'm at a loss here... I tried redownloading the image 3 times and got the same result.  I tried it with the SSD unallocated and also with a NTFS formatted c: partition.  Is the image Y53FWA00_W10x64ROW_core(DL).iso for this laptop incorrect?  Is there a checksum I can use to check against the file I have.  How can I figure out what the "error" is that is preventing the install from continuing?

Left/Up Arrow key combination not working as expected

Inspiron 15 5559 with 16 GB memory and 1 TB hard drive. Brand new out of the box.

Installed World of Warcraft and started playing. Noted immediately that pressing the Left and Up arrow keys at the same time did not move forward and left as expected. All other movement combinations (Left/Down, Right/Up, Right/Down) work as expected.

Ran keyboard test using Dell Support application. For this one key combination (Left/Up) it only registered the first key pressed. For all others it showed both keys as being pressed.

This happens outside of WoW, for example when using Notepad I cannot move up and left at the same time.

Is there any record of this happening before that I have not been able to find? Any suggestions on how to fix?

Applications installed:

Windows 10
Norton Antivirus
World of Warcraft
Misc stuff that came pre-loaded that I haven't deleted yet

Wifi Adapter not visible many times in Inspiron 7737. Can someone help?

Hi all!

Since the past few weeks, I am having trouble with Wifi adapter. The moment I switch off my laptop or Restart, quite often the Wifi adapter is not even visible, even though all my drivers are up to date and have diagnoised my laptop using Dell check application.

It is quite frustrating to me as for no reason whatsoever, this wifi adapter disappears from the laptop. My work gets effected immensely. Any help asap would be much appreciated. I know I can Refresh my laptop and may be that could solve the issue, but is there something where I can fix this problem for good?

My system :

Inspiron 7737

Windows 10

Intel i5-4200CPU@1.60 GHZ

Ram 6 GB

Thank you!

Vostro 3650 works only under intel rapid storage option in bios - bluescreen with ahci

Hello,

i own a vostro 3560 Notebook, i7, 8GB, 32GB msata and i replaced the HD by a Samsung 850 Pro SSD / 256Gb. Both ssds have been formated - i did not want to use the Intel rapid storage / start technology. The problem now is the following:

When i install Win 7 / 64 bit, this  only works in the "Intel rapid storage" mode (bios-option). If i try it with ata or ahci, the instalation hangs up after the first reboot at that point, the four windows- colours come together. There appears no bluescreen - the system only stopps.

I tried to renew the bios or changed it to version 13 and then back to V17 - but no sucess.

After i installed win 7 in this mode, I tried the regestry trick with the 0 instead of the 3 to load the ahci driver. I renewed the ahci-Driver manualy , and after that, i played with the ata driver in the same way. There always is the same result: the system freezes while booting when the colours come together. Now with  a blue-screen ;-).

The system only works, when in bios the irs-Option (instead ahci) is set.

Any ideas ... and sorry for my english ;-)

Regards

Joachim

Dock for 9550 that actually works??

Just got a new 9550 and I love the laptop. its awesome! yesterday picked up an Acer XR341CK and received a new WD15 dock that I panned on using. After about 6 hours and issue after issue after issue, I give up on it. And, after looking around in this forum, seems like the issues are widespread. I followed the instructions on the driver installation and everything.

So, is there another universal dock out there that works for the 9550? Seems like dell has some major issues with the WD15 and TB15!

Solution to Docking Station WIFI disconnect, Video output problems, etc...

Here is the solution:

Go to the properties of the WIFI, "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections", Right click on the WI-FI adapter, Properties,  Configure,  advanced, Power output. Change it from 100% to 75%. If you wish to use external monitor attached to the docking station, you will have to change it to 50%. The only problem now with the 50% is that the WIFI will no longer switch off automatically. Closing the lid also affects this, so you may have to play with this setting.

Dell Inspiron mini 10 can not connect to internet

Hi, i have two questions.

first: i did not find the bletooth device in this laptop, but i read on the internet, that it should be available in this model.

second and more important issue is, that the laptot is not able to connect to any network via Wi-Fi nor via cable.

It was ok in the past, but now it seems to find the wireless SSID fine and connect to it with the encryption key but it has trouble acquiring an IP address.

I am trying all wi-fi networks available in my neighbourhood and hotspot which i made from my phone and nothing works. Also as i mentioned, the connection it is not working via cable.

I have used this laptot in past also in foreign countries, for example in Vietnam or Cannada and everything worked fine.

Operation system is genuine seller - installed. Win xp service pack 3 home edition.

All other devices, like mobile phone, other laptops are able to connect to my wi-fi. So i don't think there is a problem with my Wi-fi network.

Thanks a lot for your help.

E7470 Unmountable Boot Volume after BIOS Update

We received a shipment of E7470s and have been having some problems with them. When the BIOS is updated and the system reboots, the boot volume cannot be found, and I have to fiddle with the BIOS settings to get the laptop to boot back up again. I've never experienced this with any other BIOS update and am confused as to why it is happening. Anyone have any ideas?

E6400 Modem Port

I work for a small business which has a lcd display out front. To sign communicates through the telephone line with its own phone number. In an attempt to replace a Windows XP computer with a Windows 10 computer, I was hoping I could use a Dell E6400 we had. It has an rj-11 port and thus I figured it would work but I can't figure out if it should work. And if it should, how I get windows to recognize it's there.

I installed the software for the sign on the computer but it doesn't recognize that there is a modem.

Dell Power Companion won't continually charge

I have the Dell Power Companion PW7015L (bought through my cost center from Dell retail) and a Del-issued (I work for Dell)l Latitude E7240.  When I charge my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone, things work fine. The Power Companion shows 5 bars for charge level and 5 for battery health.  However, when I plug in my laptop and hit the power button for the Power Companion, the "charging" indicator never comes on, and the "plugged in, not charging" icon comes on for 15-28 seconds, and then goes off (and the screen dims):  apparently the batter disconnects from the laptop, or the laptop disconnects itself.  If I hit the power button on the power companion, the "plugged in, not charging" icon will come back on, and then again go out after 15-28 seconds.  Help!  #IworkforDell.

Bluetooth not working? Not installed?

So I have a Latitude E7040 with an Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 8260.  According to the "original configuration" on Dell's support site, it states that this wireless adapter also includes Bluetooth:

555-BCMT : Intel Dual Band Wireless 8260 (802.11ac) W/ Bluetooth

However, I can't seem to get Bluetooth to work.  It doesn't detect any bluetooth devices.  I tried installing the Dell/Intel Bluetooth driver/update, but that didn't seem to do anything either.

I guess my questions are; does anyone else have experience with this?  Should I have Bluetooth?  If so, what am I doing wrong that it's not working?

I did check the BIOS, and Bluetooth does appear as an option, and it is enabled.

Thanks.
