Is there a key combination that disables the Windows key on the XPS 13 Windows edition?

This is in regards to to this question:

purposely installs the package 'dell-super-key' which disables the Windows key.

I am not sure why Dell would install such a package, so I am asking about the XPS 13 (windows).

 

I know if its common on Windows to offer an option to disable the Windows key, such as when gaming.

Is there a key combo, or a software that disables the Windows key on the XPS13 Windows edition?

 

I believe there is a key combination to enable/disable the Windows key in Ubuntu, however this isn't

documented. I can easily uninstall 'dell-super-key' but if it offers me the option to turn the Windows key

on and off at will I would rather keep in installed or back it up for later use before removing it.

Hello All,

Laptop: Dell Latitude E6510 

I was looking at the online Dell store and came across the Dell USB 3.0 E-Modular Bay (*link is below), and was wondering if you can actually get USB 3.0 SuperSpeeds out of this, given that the modular bay connects to the laptop with Serial ATA connection? And if anyone has purchased one of these and if it works well..?

When I came across this device, what I was actually looking for was a Modular Bay Hard Drive Caddy for adding a 2nd Hard Drive to my laptop, but I'm wondering now if there are any of these out there that can take a Hard Drive and also has a USB 3.0 port or ports? I'm thinking maybe there isn't enough room to fit a HDD and USB 3.0 port into a modular bay caddy, but thought I would ask because that would be perfect...

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

So we have a bunch of the Dell Latitude 5404 rugged with an odd connector on the hard drive cage.  Looking to clone all these hard drives on our SATA cloner.

Without having to remove the SATA drive from the cage, has anyone found an adapter to convert the cage connector back to a standard SATA?  We had to do something similar for some Panasonic Toughbooks.

There's a 1079sLV selling for $4000 on Amazon. Is the price a mistake or Is there really something special about it that makes it more expensive than a 9550?

Hello,

I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 17R 5720.

Since roughly 2 weeks i get freezes that result in BSOD. Also at start up. After on/off couple of times it suddenly works.

The error codes in the BSOS differ.

But these 0xc00000185 0xc0000000f are most common also the winlaod.efi file is named.

I have googled a lot to see if i could solve it on my own (without being a wizzkid) and tried a couple of things.

I used the program hd tune to check if anything was wrong with harddisk. Turned out all green.

Then I thought it was my windows and i tried to reinstall from boot menu, with a flash drive.

That didnt really work, wasn't recognized and then i installed windows 10 just directly from flashdrive. Not by changing boot menu.

I still got the freezes and now i looked on the dell site for updates on my drivers.  I downloaded them all and installed them. Only the one for BIOS can't be installed getting the error message something is wrong with ur internetconnection.

I think, also from forums on the internet, it is something with my BIOS.

What can I do?

If someone can help me it would be great but please step by step as i am great in taking steps but not in running marathons. I am not an expert.

I installed BIOS update A16 to my M4600 and after it went to 100%, the system will no longer POST. No dell logo, no ability to get into BIOS. The hard drive light is bright white, and the battery light next to it flashes White once then 4 times amber, then white again plus 4 times amber, and repeats for a few more times before just settling on non-stop flashing amber.

Pulled and swapped the memory and the hard drive, tried it with and without the battery, also pulled the CMOS battery. Again, no video on the screen, no Dell logo, no POST, no fans on, nothing activity wise other than those flashing lights when I turn it on. I'm thinking something went wrong with the BIOS update even it looked like it completed successfully and I've done hundreds of these to various Dell laptops over the years.

Any ideas what I should try next? I can't find that solid white HD, flashing amber Battery diagnostic code anywhere in any documentation or online so I don't even know where to begin.

Plus it's not under warranty anymore which angers me because it appears the only reason my laptop has been bricked is because I dared install the A16 update that was helpfully published right there on Dell's support page.

I've had my Inspiron 15 for about 3 years.  When I first got it, somehow I told it to disable the touch pad when I sign on because I always have a mouse attached.  Up until last night this was working and a box would pop up and tell me my touch pad had been disabled...today that box didn't pop up.  Pressing the F3 key does nothing.  I absolutely hate touch pads and want to disable it because the palm of my hand is constantly hitting it when I'm typing and strange things happen.  I've searched all over for help with this and cannot find anything that works.  I have connected and disconnected the mouse multiple times.  Not sure what else to try.  I'm totally agreeable to permanently disabling the touch pad if there's a way to do that.  Can some one please help me?  Thanks so much.

Trying to be certain I have all the W10 drivers ... so using the System Detect feature which, I don't think is working.  Trying to fix:

Computer boots to Ethernet connection .. and a bluetooth icon on the taskbar ... near clock.  If I try to switch to WiFi with keyboard combination Fn F2 ... I do NOT get WiFi, instead, TOUCHPAD is disabled and bluetooth icon remains.

Cannot seem to attain WiFi.  The adapter is there and 'working properly'.

Suspecting a driver issue (recently upgraded to W10 from 8.1), trying to check drivers.  System Detect has been running for HOURS ... with a lot of disk activity, but seems 'hung' (see screen shot).

Computer is on the Dell W10 approved list.  Inspiron 3521.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

I use a mouse most of the time but I still always use the touchpad for certain things. I recently changed power settings so that closing the lid does nothing. I found that whenever I close the lid, it turns off the touchpad and the only way to turn it back on without restarting is to go into device manager, disable it, and enable again. The computer acts as if it isn't disabled at all. I have many settings to prevent it from turning off at all, including disabling the palm rejection. On a side note, I also have the option to show the icon in the taskbar checked, but it isn't there, and it also says in control panel that it is there. I don't know how to activate the touchpad again if I don't have my mouse with me, so I have been taking my mouse everywhere I go.

Anyone know of a way to calibrate the touchpad?  Mine decides to move on its own and skip fields.  Frustrating to say the least....[:(]

Hi,

I own Dell Inspiron 7548 laptop. I have problem with buzzing noise coming from laptop.

It happen if :

• AC adapter is plug in
• monitor brightness is NOT on maximum level 

I read in some other post(some XPS laptop), that change AC adapter fix the problem. I have newest software and bios version. 

Is it true ? Or any ideas ?

I have a problem.
I hear high-frequency sound (irritable squeak) that produces a voltage converter during the hight-load on the processor.

Can I get a repair under warranty?

(Laptop  have 3 years warranty.)

Hello guys,

I've done a extensive search on the internet and couldn't find any answer to my problem. I have a Dell XPS15z for quite a while. Last year my battery stoped working, and since I already had a new PC, I left it alone.

Well, I've decided to give the old friend a new shot at, so I bought a new battery, installed it and did the first 8h charge that the manual indicated. However when I first got to use it, after I pressed the power button the laptop would show signs of activity (power button led on, HD spinning, fans working), but the screen stays blank and no matter wich key I press the laptop emits a beep. If I leave it like that, after a while there are no changes at all.

So, can anyone please help me with this predicament?

Hi

I am having a intel centrino duo

when i press the power button my laptop screen does'nt display anything and after 2 to 3 seconds the light below the power button also goes off.

I have tried solving the problem by removing battery and charger and pressed the button for 1 minute by attaching the charger

Hi there,

I am getting disappointing battery life with my XPS 13 9350. Running it for a couple of weeks now and getting 3h of battery tops. I was expecting at least 5h. Am I doing something wrong? What is the batt life you guys are getting on avg?

Are there any special settings or recomendations for the power options? I also have a Lenovo X1 Carbon that gets me at least 6h+ of battery...

Hello,

Recently my computer (Inspiron 15 3521) was having hard drive malfunctions so I ran a diagnostic which resulted in me replacing the hard drive. I figured I'd upgrade from the old 500Gb to a Tb Hard drive.

Now when I install the new hard drive it results in a "no boot device found" I ran diagnostics on this and checked everything and it recognizes the hard drive. Advanced diagnostics turns nothing up yet the problem continues. Any help would be great!
