I have a Studio 1558. I have 8gig memory, and 240 SSD.

I have about 180gig of free space-not much used. I have noticed that my cooling fan has been running frequently. I have Real Temp GT checking heat levels. They are showing between 160f to 185f when running no programs? I occasionally run the vac cleaner to keep the ports clean. But I can't figure out as to what is running the temp up? The fan seems to be working-I hear it running constantly any more. I don't play any games on the computer. And the virus protector I use is Malwarebytes on full time.

Any ideas as to why it's running high in temp?

Hi,

i could not manage to extend my laptop dell xps 15 9550 through TB15 dock to two monitors (U2717D) in 4K. The max resolution that I got is 2K on each monitor.

I tried all the combo with mDP, DP and HDMI, the best I got is 4K for 1 monitor.

The techcenter assured me that using mDP and DP, TB15 can deliver 4K in dual display at 60hz and with HDMI 4K in dual display but at 30hz.

I got nothing on these from intel HD graphics control panel but only 2K at 59/60hz (which is the max available).

However, on the dell website, the TB15 do deliver 4K in dual display at 60hz.

If anyone managed to configure the 4K resolution in multiple displays, extended desktop (as display mode), please let me know

Today morning I was about to turn on the laptop, so I was opening the lid, I heard a minor cracking sound. I checked the rear side - the right hinge made the sound and a gap can be seen between bottom plastic base and upper metal body (palm rest) near the right hinge.
Here is the image of it.

Also check the left side, to differentiate.

I think it's starting to show the initial signs of hinge issue.

I talked with dell tech. After looking at this pictures they are saying the laptop is 2yr old, it's normal wear and tear and they are not going to cover under warranty (I have warranty with accidental coverage).

Does it say that after 2 yr of use the hinge is going to break. How on earth it can be a normal wear and tear. Even a layman who uses laptop can understand it's something not usual. And another thing I handle the laptop with utmost care, I always try not to open/close the lid frequently - may be twice or thrice a week. So it's definitely not normal wear & tear.

there is no doubt that it's manufacturing defect and result of using poor standard material, in spite of the fact the price dell took was premium for this laptop.
It was 81000 INR in Feb 2014, i.e, around 1310 USD.

I think dell must be dragged to court for such malpractices.

I plug in a usb fan on my laptop to test it but then my dell inspiron 11 3000 beeps 3 times and turned off. I tried pressing the power button but the power light didn't turn on. Then I tried to charge it and the power light turn on and making sound like when it's going to turn on but the screen wont turn on. Then I pressed the power button again the  sound stopped but the light still on. What's wrong with my laptop? Can I fix this? My laptop is still new pls help :(

I recently replaced the motherboard in my 15Z 5523 and replaced the hard drive at the same time with a SS one. I used my own Win 8.1 to load OS. At the beginning of loading, I can see both this new HD and the original small SS one from Dell (32GB?) listed.

But after loading windows, I can't see this small SSD anymore.

And when I connect the original HD to this laptop or any other computers through USB, I can see some files but most of my personal files are gone.

Is this due to some encryption on the HD? How to recover those files and how to read that small SSD?

This machine was updated to win10 from 7 some months ago, is working fine except for the lack of an SD card reader driver (which is not a big deal.)  Today I installed Dell Command Update and it recommended that I install the STI Free Fall Data Protection driver, however, when installed from Command Update, the install fails. When I ran the executable manually it appeared to run, however, Device Manager reports no driver installed. For the moment I have reverted to a restore point I had created before I ran any updates; machine is running fine but I do not know if I have any free fall protection? I see no device in device manager which appears to be the correct one. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks!  BIOS is the latest, A18.

Not a showstopper by any means but I have not been able to find a suitable driver on Dell's web site. Does anyone have an ETA or can you point me in the right direction?

Hi,

I have upgraded my dell latitude e5540 from windows 8.1 to windows 10.

the problem is that whenever i try to add my index fingerprint to windows hello it crashes with this message:

" Sorry something went wrong.

Close windows hello, and then try going through the setup again"

It works for any other fingerprint, i have tested it and it works.

the error only appear when i try to add my right index fingerprint.

i have tried uninstalling the driver, reinstalling, uninstalling the software from the control panel, i tried everything i found on the net and nothing helped.

Hi,

I did experience this problem with factory BIOS, but only with higher power adaptors (90W and dock adaptor).
However, since BIOS A15, everything seemed fine, for many months, on Windows 7.

A weeks back, i upgraded to Windows 10 (10.10586.218), seeing that even Dell recommends the Windows 10 upgrade.

Now, the CPU (i7-4600u) stays locked at 576Mhz on resume on battery.

Kernel-Processor-Power (Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power)
The speed of processor 1 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 290 seconds since the last report.
I see this in the event log more times than i can count...

How to reproduce:
-Plug or dock the Latitude E7440
-Enter stand-by closing the lid
-Remove the power adaptor/undock
-On resume, the CPU is limited to 20% maximum CPU frequency, until you connect the power adaptor/dock the computer again.

Now, this happens on any adaptor power (65W, 90W, dock).

I tried to use BIOS A16 and A17, but these disable the SD card card reader (which i use).

Does anyone else experience this issue, or is this issue at least known and will be fixed?

Well I bought dell latitude e5420 from ebay, and finnaly came to me, after several days, but it.s locked with some dell secure manager... I don't kow what is that... I can't even go into bios, nothing, I don't know if this can help... #GGNF4S1-1D3B...

Just can't belive I don't have any possibility to enter onto computer... really sad :(

While my laptop was working on  battery, I connected my charger adaper to the laptop for recharging the battery. Suddenly, the copmuter got off and did not start again. After the consultation with a technician it is found that the charger got damaged and it damged the motherboard too. Charger was genuine one (Which I got with laptop itself). Then I repaired the motherboard, and then got another problem with display.. While opening the laptop , at some positions, display starts to show some color distractions... That problem also rectified.. Now, the LED indicator of the LAP is not seen working..... Another problem, developing is with the led bezel... It starts to break down into pieces, even on a gentle touch.. I am totally disappointed with this...

Please help..

My Mum's work was throwing away their old business laptops and my Mum decided to take one home instead.  They wiped the computers completely, and I downloaded a windows 7 ISO but still no boot device is being found.  The computer is set to complete default I haven't changed anything.  My windows 7 disc could be the problem I'm well aware . Could anyone confirm or give me hints on to how I can get this laptop up and running?  Maybe a cleaner version of windows 7 etc.  

Can anyone tell me what this port is for?

Hey, I can't start my computer. I seems the computer tries to start but will not. I had take out battery and power cable and pressed the start button for 20 sec as a recomendation for static voltage.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi,

I got my new XPS3 recently and was annoyed by the notification alert (it comes out whenever there is a notification of emails / chat msg / etc., and when I press sth not applicable in excel or other applications). Just wondering whether and how I can diable the sound alert for any of these errosr...

hello, 

I would like to ask if there is any way to customize gestures on dell touchpad 7450.

i would like to add 4 fingers gestures to change virtual desktops (like in mac os).

in windows 10 this can be down with "windows key + ctr + right or left".

It is very usefull gesture. i hope i can solve this...

asus has already updates drivers and this gesture is automatiacally added ...

hope you can hel find a solution

Hey..So water accidentally spilled under my laptop at the rear end. I immediately plugged out the charger, removed the back panel and cleaned the water. I let it dry overnight. I tried plugging the charger and switching it on. The laptop lights on and off. It won't start. What should I do?

hi,my question is i have a Dell Laptop inspiron 1525 and i cant recover my windows 7..how can i recover i used everything but its doent work,i dont have a backup cd,cause i bougth it second hand...i used,start up repair,system restore,system image recovery,windows diagnostic(its said nothing wrong with system)....but nothing seems to work!!
