Precision 5510 + TB15 = Frustration
I'm adding this as yet another post about Thunderbolt issues with Dell's latest laptops and their TB15 Dock. I've had this laptop since the end of January, a DA200 since early February and the TB15 since early March. Recent driver fixes have resolved any issues with the DA200, but the TB15 is still a hot pile of not working.
First, the specifics. I've stayed up to date on ALL drivers from the support website for both the 5510 and the TB15. I'm on the latest BIOS version (Dell Inc. 01.02.00, 4/7/2016) and have gone through and uninstalled/re-installed everything in the orders specified in various places on this forum.
Drivers from the end of last month seemed to resolve the issues, yet the last few days have shown the system to return to non-functionality. Booting and connecting work fine and as long as the system does not sleep wile connected to the dock, display and network hold solid. Invariably no matter what else is running, after a few minutes of connection every USB device drops off. I am unable to bring anything back until I disconnect, wait a few minutes (or power-cycle the dock) and then reconnect the laptop.
A few minutes later, I will lose peripherals again.
The dock gets very hot, and when USB falls off, it is at a "heat peak". Any USB cable I unplug (especially from the front ports) at that time is almost too hot to touch. I have tried disconnecting other items from the dock (displays, ethernet) and USB still fails after a few minutes of running connected.
I simply want Dell to make this right and fix it. I like the idea of this dock, but something is amiss between the design, implementation and price. I have dealt with this issue for far too long. I don't want to have to be told from a script via tech support to reinstall every driver. I've done that more than once already. I want Dell to own this as their problem and resolve it.
The collective frustration on the entire internet over this dock and Thunderbolt is proof enough that this is not a small issue.
