Dell Inspiron 15 3552 - missing drivers

$

Two weeks ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 3552 (Service Tag<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>) with Ubuntu 14.04 SP1. It was a gift for my mother. She was not comfortable with using Ubuntu so I installed Windows 7 Professional (x64). The problems started immediately. Network controllers drivers were missing, universal serial bus (usb) controller were missing. I tried to install all drivers recommended by Dell Product Support but they there not right for me. For example: wireless card is DW 1801 Card 802.11gbn + BT 4.0, yet the Dell Support suggests drivers for 1707 which fails to install. I found the drivers for 1801 and was able to install them, but so far these things are not working on the laptop:

Universal serial bus (usb) controller
Webcam
I suspect it is because I am still missing some drivers, probably motherboard or chipset. Could you provide me the links to them?

M4500 Dies without warning on battery

$

My recently purchased second-hand M4500 is great in every way except that I cannot use it on battery power alone. Initially, I assumed the battery was dead and bought a new one but the problem persists.

When the mains power is removed the laptop works fine on battery for anywhere from a few seconds to half an hour but then dies (powers off) abruptly and without warning.

BIOS logs show "ASF2 Force off"

This is NOT a battery charge issue. Following these power offs the battery shows ample charge and can be used to boot up again.

This is NOT an overheating issue ... the laptop works fine for days on mains power.

This is NOT a windows specific issue (drivers etc) as the power offs happen even when waiting in the BIOS, doing a system test and during the boot options screen.

There seem to be many similar reports:

I also spotted that the M6800 seems to have similar issues and there an A16 BIOS update which includes 'enhanced battery latch debounce" seemed to help, but no such BIOS fix is available for the M4500?

Any suggestions?

TB15 disconnects

Hello everybody,

i have received my two TB15 docks today and i have at both docks the periodically disconnects (Black screen, no mouse & kb, ...)with my XPS15, i have allready tried out all the hints from here without any success.

BUT I have accidentally found a strange behavior, if i enlarge the distance between the notebook and the dock it works without any issue! If the notebooks stand direct in the front from the dock i have the disconnects! Is it possible that one of the radio units (WLAN, BT) disturbs the dock?

I have added a picture that describs the "strange behavior".

Inspiron 3542 Won't shut down all the way

My laptop will not shut down all the way. Every time I shut down, my laptop will hold a charge in RAM. You can here a small whine from the RAM card after shutdown. Unless I take out the battery it will keep going. Also, sometimes my laptop will not wake up from sleep after opening the lid. I have to do a hard reset and run the check disk utility to take care of file system errors. This has been going on for about 6 months. Any ideas anyone?

DELL XPS 17 L1702X Will not boot - no POST - battery light blinking 4 X Amber and 1 X White

$

I'm working on my Wife's DELL XPS 17 L1702X laptop SERVICE TAG: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>.

It was working just fine the other day, and for months/years before that.  It was left on overnight, as is usual.  In the morning, the screen was black, the battery light was blinking 4 times Amber and then 1 time white, over an over again.  No beeps are ever heard, regardless of how I try to start the machine.  There is no DELL Logo screen, no POST ... nothing, other then the fan coming on at full speed.

I have read numerous posts on similar problems with this model, and have done the following:

1) Removed battery, all peripherals, USB devices, etc., unplugged the power adapter, and then held down the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any flea power.  I've done this in between every other thing I have tried - including removing the internal 2032 Motherboard Battery.  It still will not even go into POST on attempted restart with or without the battery in place.

2) I have tried another known working DELL power supply, as I have an identical machine that is working.  Both power supplies will start my machine and charge my battery.

3) Holding down the Fn key while pressing the power button does nothing.

It is important to note that:

1) The power button does not glow any color at any time.

2) When I press the power button for 3 seconds, with or without the battery in place - I hear what initially sounds like the hard drives beginning to spin up, the DVD lens move slightly, and then the fan comes on and stays on at high speed.

3) The machine cannot be "shut down", by that I mean stopping the fan - unless the battery and power supply are removed.

Although I have seen posts where motherboards are replaced due to this problem - the problem always seems to return to those customers.

Being that the power button does not glow any color at any time:  Is it possible that the power button board itself is faulty or the electronics on that board?  Even though it will cause the unit to "appear" to start powering up after it is pressed?

XPS 15 9550 keeps getting BSOD. Tried everything.

Hi there,

I really hope somebody here has the solution, because I would like to keep my XPS 15 althoug it should be stable and not give 2 BSODs a day..

My first XPS had 5 BSODs in 24 hours after I opened the box, after which he would boot anymore. I checked the dumps and all pointed towards the wifi driver (bcmpciedhd63.sys with error code 0x00000663 bcmpciedhd63.sys+222b2).

After some communications with Dell I received a new XPS.

This machine gave the same problems. I used an external wifi card to see if this was the culprit, and yes no more BSOD. The SSD speed was way lower than normal (factor 10x) so Dell service desk send a technician to replace the SSD and the wifi card.

The current machine has a new SSD, new Wifi card and updated bios (01.01.19). Did a fresh microsoft windows 10 install and installed the latets drivers. Still the error returns...

I don't know what to do anymore.... Is the motherboard faulty? Maybe only at the connection of the wifi adapter?

I hope you have an answer, because it really drives me crazy... 3 months down the road with a load of down time after buying a premium laptop like the XPS 15 9550...

Many thanks in advance!

AW 13 will not power up

Was using the laptop night before last and everything was fine.. got home from work yesterday evening and it would not wake up. Power light cycles through all the colors but it will not power up. If you unplug the power cord the power light goes out right away. I see a couple of things to try  but I'm not sure if taking the service covers off affects the warranty?

PrntScr key on Dell Inspiron N5110

On my Dell inspiron N5110, the print screen key ( PrntScr) doesn't do a screen capture. I tried to  press the key by itself; press ctrl and the key; press alt and the key; press win key and the key, and pressed shift and the key.

Is there something that needs to be activated to use this key?

I am using Win 7.

Dell mini 1010v (1011) with Windows 10....

$

Just upgraded a Dell Mini 1010v (Inspiron 1011) to Windows 10!

From XP!

Running about 5% CPU, with a lot of things shut down, OneDrive, Desktop one color, all data collection off, and a 60 Gb SSD as a hard drive.

Went by Goodwill, picked up a broken Windows 7 laptop, a Dell 2120 to use the Windows 7 key on the back. $9.99...

Stripped, but I found the wireless card was still inside. Popped out my 1397, in goes the 1520...

Drivers are an issue. Use the Windows 7 64 bit drivers, do not install, just extract, then have Windows manually update the drivers, pointing it to /dell subfolder. May take a while....

Wireless speed goes from 54 to 300...

Download the Windows 10 iso, 32 bit, all languages, from Microsoft.

Burn to a USB stick, making it bootable, (use the create bootable DVD/USB tool), then, if doing a clean install, boot from it.

Upgrade, just click on "setup.exe", I believe. (Not sure, went the "clean install" route)

The following 1011 Windows 7 32 bit drivers I installed, because I did a clean install, Function Key, Display, Caps Lock, Wireless Switch, and 1520 Wireless card drivers from the 64 bit side...,

Up, activated, and running pretty good...
(Considering its a $199 Black Friday Special from 5-6 years ago....)

Ubuntu drivers for audio and video

I am running ubuntu 15.10 on a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series. Most things are working well, but I have two problems.

1. Sound is distorted, likely due to the noise-cancelling dual microphone without proper drivers to make it work.

2. Video in Hangouts on google chrome is green! I don't mean tinted green. It's all green.

Where can I get standard dell drivers for audio and  video?

Thank  you!

New Inspiron 15-5000 Touch Randomly Freezes

New Inspiron 15-5000 purchased in November 2015 and activated in December.  Soon thereafter it began randomly freezing.  The only way to resolve was a hard restart.

Spent a total of 5.5 hours on with tech support in 2 sessions.  During second we did a soft refresh of Windows10.  Then, at the end of the 3+ hour call, it froze.  Told that, despite paying for 2nd day on site service, needed to send it in to the repair depot.

Did that.  The laptop arrived back 2 days ago.  Apparently they did a complete reinstall of Win10.

Began working with the laptop yesterday.  Installed Office 2013.  Then Norton Security.  About an hour or so later it froze again.

Called Dell Support today.  Another 3.5 hours on the phone.  2 of those hours were running operating system updates.  Also updated BIOS and firmware.

Not sure if this worked or not.  If not, any ideas.

This should not be happening to a brand new laptop.

XPS 15 9550 - Crash on resume from sleep

As of today, I am no longer able to successfully wake my XPS 15 9550 from sleep. Yesterday it worked fine, today, every time, without fail, the computer's keyboard will light up and then it will auto-restart after about 30 seconds of no response. I am not in the Windows insider program and I did not install any software.

Attempting to use system restore to my last point yields an unknown error.

sfc /scannow shows no violations.

Dell Inspiron 5420 touchpad *** on Windows 10

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 5420, with Windows 10 64 bit installed. The touchpad driver is install automatically by the system.

When I try to scroll with two-finger gesture, the scrolling experience ***. It does not respond sometimes, and moves too many line sometimes.

However on Linux, the scrolling experience actually is very smooth. So I think it is not a hardware problem, but a driver problem.

By any change Dell can update this driver?

Thanks,

David

Dell Latitude 3540 not hibernating or standby on Win 10-64bit

I had clean install Windows 10 64 bit on my laptop. Whenever I put my laptop to hibernate or stand-by it won't go to that state. Screen always get black and hanged and my fan and system remains at ON state then I have to hard shutdown with power button to continue again. I also updated by BIOS plus my drivers are all up to dated. No BSODs or any other driver conflicts. I think some sort of power level issue in this windows. Any workaround or fix? :(
