Inspiron 15 5559 crackling/rattling sound

Hello, I bought this brand new DELL and was super exxcited about it - everything works like charm except one thing. I am new to using notebooks so my problém might be normal behaviour. What concerns me is rattling/crackling sound when laptop is plugged and you are doing some basic stuff, like browsing web. I think it is coming from fan area, it definitely aren't reproductors. I called to DELL tech support and they told me to update BIOS. I did plus I reinstalled whole system and updated all possible drivers I could find. The problém still persists and I am desperate. Have no more ideas what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recorded the sound, so you could imagine: soundcloud.com/.../s-wgEW1

Inspiron i7 5759 not tested with Windows 10, but at the same time Windows 10 is pre-installed by Dell

At the webpage about computers tested for upgrade to Windows 10  I read "If your device is not listed in the tables below (...) Dell does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10."

Recently I bought a new Dell laptop, Inspiron i7 5759. This model is not in the list, which would imply that Dell does not recommend to use Windows 10. But at the same time Windows 10 was allready pre-installed at the computer!

So, maybe the list needs an update?

Create USB recovery drive in Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron i7 5759 laptop doesn't work

I bought a new Dell laptop Inspiron i7 5759 with Windows 10 - 64 bit - professional. One of the first things I tried to do, was to create an USB recovery drive. This is also an 'app' that appears if you click the start button, then I can immediately see 'Create USB recovery drive'. Well, I tried this many times, but so far without results. It seems not to work.

I have posted this issue also on the Microsoft forum. I noticed that somebody else, called Arun, had already opened a topic about Error while creating USB recovery drive in Windows.

What is of importance here, is that Arun mentioned that he purchased a new Dell laptop.

I also purchased a new Dell laptop.

The Windows support engineer has suggested several possibilities to make this function (create USB recovery drive) work. I tested them all, so far with no results.

This makes me wonder if this has anything to do with a bad Dell laptop-Windows 10 interaction.

Also because the similarity between Aruns issue and mine is that it happened at our new Dell laptops.

My main question is of course: How to create an USB recovery drive in Windows 10 on my Dell Inspiron i7 5759 laptop, in a way that DOES work?

But since the regular options are not working is question 2:

Could there be something like a bad Dell laptop - Windows 10 interaction?

Could it be, that is is not a bug in Windows 10, but that it is related to the fact that it is a (new) DELL laptop?

Then the issue should be resolved by Dell, instead of Microsoft.

DST long test - not progressing? i15 5520 laptop

2-3 year old i15 5520 running Win 8. When working on laptop, the fan will speed up at times, which slows processing. Laptop is not running as efficiently as it did. Ran a pre-boot diagnostic test last night. It completes first part - no problems detected. 2nd part it seems to be running fine and then at what seems to be 95% complete, it doesn't seem to be progressing. Escaped from test and tried again. Same result. At 96% complete for 20+ minutes no change. No error codes, no results logged.

Do I need to allow the testing to run longer or is this representative of a problem with the hard drive?

Thank you!

Cleaning - maintenance i15 5520

Is it possible for someone like me, with little experience with assembly and repair, to clean the fan, etc. of this laptop?  If so, how is this accomplished?  And what other regular maintenance should I be doing?

Thank you!

Staples sells models not found on Dell's web site

I get daily emails from Staples- while I'm searching for a laptop. I often see models offered by Staples- then I check the Dell site and don't find them. Does Staples and other companies have special versions? Or is this just done by mutual consent to confuse the buyers?

New XPS 15 9550 and Wireless Display problem

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone has experience with connecting XPS 9550 to Wireless Display?

For this purpose I am using Microsoft Wireless HDMI adapter, and with my old XPS 12 Duo it works perfectly.

Unfortunately, with my new XPS, it is possible to connect, but then image lags terribly, shutters, hangs and usually disconnects within 10-20s...  Since this feature is very important to me, this is the only reason why I am still keeping my old XPS laptop. I have similar experience with Google Chromecats and its beta feature of casting whole screen...

I think that the problem is that new XPS 15 does not support Intel WIDI, since for some reason Dell decided to put Broadcom, instead Intel wireless adapter and consequently not support this technology...

Bottom line, do you know if it is possible to properly use XPS 9550 and any Wireless Miracast Display?

Latitude D820 Bios A7/A10 t7200 speed problem

Hello all,

sorry for my bad English.

I have a Latitude D820 with T7200 2Ghz cpu, 2 Gb ram and Intel 945 gfx.

I have upgraded from winXp to window7/10 and the cpu now works only at 0.96Ghz. I have changed the system bios from A7 to A10 version but same problem .... laptop works in half speed and it's very slooly.

I read to Dell website that this laptop isn't compatible with Windows7/Windows 10. I've tryed to reinstall from scrath Windows XP but the problem persist ... now the cpu works only at 0.98Ghz.

Have you an idea how to solve this? ... no problem for me working with windowsXP or Windows7 the most important thing is working at 2Ghz.

Many thanks in advance.

XPS 13 (9350) TMP fiasco

OK, so I ordered an XPS 13 laptop from Dell without explicitly requesting the TPM chip to be installed. I have the TPM 2.1 settings in BIOS so I'm under the assumption that it is present. I am able to enable and disable the chip using the BIOS settings but TPM doesn't register anywhere in Device Manager on Windows 10.

I read the following post on the 9343 TPM configuration but I  can find no comparable article on the 9350: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN297086/EN

My question is this: If TPM is present in the BIOS- does that mean the chip is present?

Also, I've been seeing references to using PTT to run BitLocker encryption. Is this supported on the 9350? I saw no reference to that in the BIOS.

Inspiron 15 5559 AC light flashing orange on arrival + not charging

Hi,

Brand new Inspiron 15 5559 arrived today.  Plugged it in, and the power light went white briefly, then started flashing orange - even when switched off.

Powered it on and got a warning message straight away that the battery/ac type couldn't be determined.

Carried on with the machine setup anyway - got into Windows etc after a few critical updates after first-time setup.  When I get to the windows 10 desktop, Windows says the battery isn't charging and the system is on AC power only.

I reboot and enter Dell diagnostics - fails on Battery test giving Error: 2000-0133, Validation: 96648.

BIOS is reported as 1.0.6.

I removed the battery and restarted - machine is happy to run on AC power only.  Reinserted the battery, still not working.  BIOS reports battery is at 0% and needs to be replaced.

This is pretty awful!  Brand new machine, basically not working on arrival.

I'm guessing a replacement battery is required or that there's an issue with the charging circuit on the Mobo?

Dell Engineers: I can provide Asset tag/express service code on request - this is for work (much like the last machine I had an issue with) and battery power is pretty much crucial...

Not very happy to be honest.

Look forward to a response.

Problem in USB Port in Inspiron 3541

Hello all,

Today I purchased a 3000 series 3541 laptop and installed win7 ultimate. after installing all drivers as recommended by DELL support, I found that the two USB ports towards my left are working properly, while the Right side PORT adjacent to card reader socket is not detecting any device. However the system does makes sound while inserting any device but then nothing happens. Is this a USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port

I checked device manager also for any issues but it is clean.

Can anybody help me resolving the issue.

thanks

Latitude e6510 CPU replacement

Hello community. I am wondering if I can replace the i3 processor of my Latitude e6510 for an i5 or even an i7 Quad.  Are there any issues with clock speeds?  Any issues with software licenses that may be tied to the CPU serial? Thanks!?

Inspiron 15 5000 Series Not Good for Windows 10

0

If you have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series, take your time to evaluate whether or not you want to "upgrade" to Windows 10.  My Inspiron came with Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to Windows 10, and I had numerous issues with the touchpad, plus the laptop ran very slow.  I used the re-install disc to go back to Windows 8.1, but it was a nightmare that took 2 days to figure out.  I had to reload all the drivers from the dell.com site, including network drivers, chipset drivers etc.  Since this model had no network cable plug in, I had to use another computer to access the network driver files.  Even after all the drivers were replaced, the windows update was messed up, and it took a few more hours to figure that out.  Once I got Windows 8.1 up and running it is so much faster on this computer than Windows 10 ever was.  I just want anyone out there with this type of computer to really think about installing Windows 10.  It's not good for all computers, especially this model.

Problems connection XPS 9550 laptop to D3100 Docking Station

The docking station doesn't recognize any of my peripherals.  Monitor, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse all work fine directly connected to laptop.  None of them work connected to docking station.  I've downloaded a bucketload of updates recommended by tech support and still nothing.  The only thing that seems to be working is the ethernet connection which isn't essential.

Here's what I've done so far:--would appreciate any suggestions to get this working properly!

Install Drivers.

next step - Run Windows update

install the display link should came disck with doscking station.

Once you have finished installing all of these drivers you can reconnect to the docking station. Allow up to 5 minutes to complete the installation once the dock has been attached to the system. After the installation is finished you should restart the system to complete the configuration.

M6300, D\Dock, and windows 10; PCI issue

Hi. I have an old M6300 and want to get the pci slot in the dock to work. I was wondering what steps I need to take to solve the issue. It is running Windows 10 with no serious issues. In Device Manger the Mobile Intel(R) PM965/gm965/gl960/gs965 Express PCI Express Root Port - 2A01 and PCI-to-PCI Bridge gives code 12. The Laptop has 8GB of RAM. I also have a small videocard in the slot and with the fallback driver it seems to work. Just cant install the correct drivers to it. It also identifies the screen correctly. It also sees the mouse, keyboard, and a 1TB External Hard Drive. Supportive help would be greatly appreciated. :)
