So we got a 7347, with the glossy lower 1366 resolution, and with in months, broke the screen. Of course not covered under warranty, because we don't believe in such *** to pay extra, especially when it's outrageously priced. But someone did something stupid and ended up cracking the screen.
It was still partially usable, with a big moving blob of liquid LCD, but got worse over time. Touch still worked fine. But in doing research, we too saw MANY times the ghosting issue that everyone talks about with the 7347. Trying to find a matching replacement was impossible. Sold out everywhere. The only thing I could find was the higher 1920 resolution in Matte. Concerned about both of course, but checked and they used the same connector.
I've done this before and replaced a lower resolution with a higher a resolution on a laptop, and there was lots of info that you had to upgrade the cable. I tried it and it worked, that was a Latitude.
Well replacing JUST the LCD on a 7347 was a complete pain because you have to separate the Touch Screen digitizer from the LCD. Hi temp hair dryer, burning my hands (not really) and lots of cracking (oooh ouch, it's just the old LCD, so it's ok. The Digitizer was fine. Glue EVERYWHERE, what a mess. But hey, first used Kaisi flat plastic hard spatula type thing to get the first 95% of the glue up pretty easily and then used some Orange Luster Wood Cleaner and Conditioner and a roll of paper towels, some cloth towels, a couple micro fiber towels, and a bunch of time, was able to clean the digitizer pad and nice.
Put in the new LCD, didn't use the sticky tape, because if it didn't work I wanted to return the LCD, but it still fit right, rehinging was a pain, but I got it all together, a reboot, saw DELL, then blank. :( Then BIOS check, all good, reboot, wait, wait, wait, and voila. It just works!
Now I can now see vertical lines from the digitizer, looks like. They definitely float above the screen, and as you move side to side they come and go. Maybe it's the Matte vs. Glossy, or the higher resolution. Who cares! I have a new working screen for $75 bucks! And higher resolution!
Let me know if you have any questions.
