GPS to NMEA - Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme (7404)

We have several Latitude 14 Rugged Extreme (7404) laptops with the optional SiRFstarV GPS. By default the GPS outputs in a non-NMEA format.

Has anyone found how to change this output to NMEA format?

I *thought* I had a way using the SiRF DEMO tool but it doesn't seem to keep the change after the system is rebooted.

Inspiron 17 5755 Problem - Battery? Wifi Adapter? AC Charger?

$

Hello Everyone!

I'm brand new to these forums so excuse me if I am in the wrong place.

I just bought an Inspiron 17 Series Model 5755 Laptop in December.  It worked okay for a couple weeks and then started acting up.

Problem 1 -  Losing Internet connection every couple seconds.  Router is fine as other devices are not losing connection.   Works fine when using ethernet wired connection.

Problem 2 -  I keep my laptop plugged in with AC adapter most of the time.  The charging light came on while I was using the laptop AND it was plugged in.  Why would the battery lose charge when the laptop is plugged in?

I tried researching these problems and I checked what I knew how to check.  I updated my drivers via Dell.

I found posts suggesting that "power" might be causing the problems above.  ???

Not enough power supplied to wifi adapter??

Faulty AC Adapter??

Etc.  Etc.

How can I find out what is causing these problems?  The machine is almost new ... 1-1/2 months old.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

CPU trudging like a slug on M4300

One of my users requested some help today.  It's an M4300 with 4 GB running Windows 10 Pro x86. I noticed that the computer was very unresponsive and investigated.

RAM usage is well under 4 GB.  Task Manager thinks the CPU is running at 0.6 GHz rather than the rated 2.5 GHz and about 20% utilization.  Sysinternals Process Monitor thinks the CPU is running near or at 100% utilization, usually with TIHelper.exe (or maybe TIsomething) eating most of the time.

CPU temperature is 58C which doesn't seem excessive.  I went into power settings and increased the minimum CPU percent speed with no effect.

Inspiron 7558 Windows 8.1 images

Is there anyone I can get a hold of Windows 8.1 images for this laptop? I upgraded to Windows 10 but the experience has been horrible. No touch screen support ... and no information on how to get this working or drivers to get this working. The screen also randomly rotates to vertical for no apparent reason and the screen becomes unresponsie.

Any ideas on how I can get images for Windows 8.1 so I can downgrade would be awesome! I'm so fed up with the random *** that happens randomly ... especially the random vertical rotate.

Soon to be released new Dell Docks may require BIOS and driver updates on your laptop before use!

Dell will soon be releasing updated desktop docking stations that are compatible with Type C and Thunderbolt systems.   These docks may require that you update your system's BIOS and install docking station drivers before they will function properly.   Older BIOS versions or lack of docking station drivers could result in the dock not being recognized by your system or not working as expected.   Once released, these docking station drivers and updated BIOS versions will be available on support.dell.com for supported laptop systems.

Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series problem with normal updating

I have been unable to get signed in to xbox game apps on my Dell Inspiron.  Xbox advises me to sign in on their website which is an exceedingly slow process - over 5 minutes for my username and password to be accepted, and even then I am not signed in to the apps.

I have used the Windows Update Troubleshooter to solve the problem a couple of days ago, but I had to let it run all night before it was able to check the registry and resolve problems.  Today I couldn't sign in again, and the Update Troubleshooter has been running all day.

I  have gotten a pop-up message that the Group Policy Client Server may be causing the problem.

  Please help!

XPS13 9350 Screen and touchpad hang ups

Brand new XPS13, great machine to replace my diehard Sony but what annoying hang ups every few minutes. I have read many replies to this but unless you are a PC guru the way to try and resolve this will probably give me more issues. Do Dell have a remote access via networking to do this?

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 15 5558, When I first hit the power button, it acts like it wants to boot, the little LED comes on, then shuts off, so when I hit the power button a second time it boots... Help please! I don't want anything to fry or get messed up!

inspiron 13 - 7359 - cracked touch screen

$

I purchased an Inspiron 13 - 7359 (i7 skylake /8G) in mid december 2015. Only had the unit about a month, used slighty. On January 10 noticed fracture line in the touchscreen, at first thought LCD was broke. But quick examination only finds touch screen portion was fractured. Performed the LCD BIST test during boot (hold D-key during initial power-on) and no dead pixels, no display problems. Touch is only issue; mousing features erratic.

So I started an email conversation with Dell repair and so have gone through the process of returning the laptop to Dell and they currently are checking this issue.

From scouring the internet and finding issues with previous inspiron 13 models, namely the ghost touch issues and more recently cracked touch screens, there seems a definite failure pattern in the Dell inspiron touch model line.

I'm not certain how this is gonna end up. I could have kept the laptop and not use the touch option but the 2-in-1 feature was the main point in getting this unit.

I will post follow-ups

Dell XPS 13 Page Fault in Non Paged Area Help!!

Scoured the fourms already numerous times. Just nothing seems to be a permanent fix. What I gather is that its a problem with the network card drivers? I rolled back the drivers, works for a solid couple weeks before it crashes again. Updated the drivers, works for a couple days before it crashes. Really just know what idea what to do. Previously posted something similar on a forum and we all gathered that it is definitely dealing with the network card, but prehaps it could be something else? Looking for any suggestions now I just want a permanent fix to my problem.

Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Dell Wireless 1560 802.11ac

Also wanted to mention, even though I'm not sure if this would affect anything, I go to university and they require me to have downloaded ClearPass Onguard. Sometimes I see it disabling my wifi adapter and then renabling it. So I'm not sure if this would affect any of it. During these periods of disabling and renabling, no BSOD. It usually happens as I'm browsing the internet or watching videos. One it happened when I was trying to save something to Onedrive while using word. I'm completely out of ideas

Is my laptop compatible (please help)

So there's a new GeForce GTX 850M update (it's version 361.75) and i have a Dell Inspiron 14 7447 (7000 series).

I asked the people of Nvidia if i can install this, this is what they specifically said:

Always check the release notes ;)

For "optimal" performance and stability you should ONLY be using the manufacturer's recommended driver pack.

You have a laptop... you should not attempt to "update" the driver or OS unless it is specifically listed on the manufacturer's website under your exact model#. In fact; with some units if you were to RMA the laptop to a service center the RMA would be denied as driver/OS software which has not been listed is being used (ie: the unit is being used outside of manufacturer spec)."

So, in short, they told me that i have to go here and ask if my laptop can be compatible with the new GTX 850M update? I don't know how to find if my laptop is in the compatible list... Help needed D:

Thx guys

MY VOSTRO 1520 LAPTOP RANDOMLY TURNED OFF AND WONT TURN BACK ON

I was using my Dell Vostro 1520 yesterday afternoon when it turned off. It didn't shut down, the screen just went black and the whole thing just stopped running. When I tried turning it on again later the power button was completely unresponsive. None of the lights are on and the screen is showing no signs of life. Since then I have repeatedly tried turning it on but the same has been happening. The laptop isn't very old and I have had virus software on it that showed no signs of alarm. I haven't had any problems like this before. I don't use a battery, I use a power cord. I have tried plugging it into multiple powerpoints but nothing comes up. I have tried putting the battery in but I'm not even sure if it has my charge in it. I left the laptop plugged in, with the battery inserted over night but that didn't make any changes. Please help I have no idea what could be causing this!

Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver fails to install on XPS 9550

The two recent driver updates to Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Driver both fail to install on my XPS 9550. Specifically the drivers packages Chipset_Driver_YPN7Y_WN32_8.1.10605.221_A02.EXE  and

Chipset_Driver_KDDXT_WN32_8.1.10604.207_A01.EXE the original driver
Chipset_Driver_7TWNH_WN32_8.1.10600.150_A00.EXE does seem to install correctly.  Really only the thermal manager portion fails.
After downloading and reviewing the inf files I can see the A01 and A02 driver have smilar inf files (save the driver version numbers) but the A00 (working driver) is different from the two.
in A00 I see
%INT3400.DeviceDesc% = EsifManager6.3,*INT3400
in the [INTEL.NTamd64.6.1] and [INTEL.NTamd64.6.3] sections
in A01 and A02 it is
%INT3400.DeviceDesc% = EsifManager,ACPI\INT3400
Here is the bottom of the driver failed install log

Does Dell offer any options to correct motherboard / video failures that are common on Inspiron Laptops

$

I have an Inspiron M5010 laptop. I have experienced the problem where the motherboard / video has failed. The screen blinks or goes blank. The laptop is unusable. The problem is poor mounting of video chips on the motherboard and the heat causes them to become intermittent. I had the problem last summer and had the motherboard repaired. The problem returned last night and the laptop is dead again. I can't find any place to ask Dell directly if they offer any alternatives.
