Clicking problem
Hello,
I would like to share a problem I have with my Dell Inspiron 14 (4050).
When I turn the device on ,the laptop would show its dell startup logo and then it would freeze.Pressing the F2 and F12 buttons for diagostics didn't do any good and the screen would still be frozen as it was at the start.I tried removing my battery, pressing the power button to discharge any remaining energy left, removing the inbuilt keyboard and turning on the device. Still it would freeze at the same point.
Then when I insert the keyboard once again it would give off a continuous clicking sound and plugging the keyboard out would stop the sound but keeping in mind that the screen is still frozen at that point.
So can anyboydy please assist me in solving the problem?
This is what my monitor displays.

USB-C Thunderbolt HUB for XPS 9550
Has anyone found a HUB that actually works? Every single one I have tried causes poor performance for Keyboard and Mouse. It's as if the system is being over worked - Keyboard misses keys or duplicates letters and the mouse skips around the screen as if the system doesn't have the resources to deal with the mouse. The HUB linked from the XPS 15 9550 is in fact the wrong one. Its not compatible with this system. I've even had my system replaced and the same problem.
I'm also wondering if DELL doesn't just have a massive driver issue with the Thunderbolt port.
Thanks for any input.
E5550: Fingerprint on Windows 10 x64
Hi everybody,
my fingerprint reader doesn't work as expected on Windows 10 x64 maybe for some driver issue because even my colleagues with the same OS/driver have the same behavior.
I can login on Windows without any problem but when I have to authenticate on a web page using Windows Security, OS doesn't show "fingerprint" as authentication method, but only regular login (username and password) and SmartCard.
See the screenshot attached.
Please help me to find a solution.
Regards.
XPS 15 9550 - No local computers found after slleep, internet ok
XPS 15 9550 I7,4K,512
Bios 1.1.15
Win10 1511
All the latest drivers
When I boot I can see all my computers on my local LAN. However, when the computer goes to sleep, and then wakes up, no local computers can be found. Searching doesn't help. I have to reboot in order to see the local computers again.
Anyone else seen this problem?

Dell inspiron 1545 bios update help
Precision M5510 External monitor (primary) & lid closed software/bios design flaw
Dell engineers have appeared to have overlooked a setup on the new m5510 precision laptop. Originally found on a laptop and pro support was going to send out a new motherboard and lcd, however I reproduced the same scenario on another brand new m5510.
If you hookup an external monitor to the laptop via the built in hdmi port and than in windows configure that as your primary (disabling the laptop screen). Also turn off windows action to sleep when you close the lid. Now close the lid to use the laptop as a 'docked' computer with the external monitor and mouse/keypad. This will function fine, however once you try to 'restart windows' here is where the bios is not functioning correctly.
The laptop will shutdown and a white Dell log will popup on the external monitor and stay there. Than the LED on the leading edge of the laptop will begin to flash an error sequence (2x amber followed by 7x white and repeat). I am told that sequence references a defective LCD. The LCD works fine, all diagnostics pass.
The problem appears to be that the computer/bios is not properly recognizing that the external monitor is hooked up (despite it showing the dell logo) and is throwing this error fault haulting boot to the OS. With the lid closed the built in LCD is deactivated, but the external is definately there the whole time.
If you leave the laptop screen up however the system will properly restart. IE: external monitor set as primary monitor and laptop screen deactivated. Lid on laptop left up and not closed however, it is just blank. Restart windows and you'll see the dell logo pop up on the LCD of the laptop this time and immediately see the 'starting windows' message for a short period and than it will switch over to the external around the time windows pops up the log on screen.
I have tested with mutliple monitors (both dell and other vendors), tried with hdmi on the external monitors (and also an hdmi to dvi convertor), tried several different hdmi cables and now two m5510's (purchased about 2 months apart so different batches).
At this point I think anyone can reproduce this on any m5510 by doing the following, including the dell engineers (so they can quickly push out a new bios to fix this):
- hookup external monitor and set it as your primary in windows (deactivating the built in lcd), you'll need a mouse/keyboard external also (minimum mouse to test)
- turn the power settings in windows to 'Do Nothing when the lid is closed'
- Now close the lid and windows should stay running on external
- Now do a restart of windows (start button, restart)
- You will see a white Dell logo on the external monitor and it will stay there
- If you look at the leading edge of the laptop (that is the edge below the keyboard), there is an LED there, it will be flashing (2x amber and 7x white) in a repeated pattern.
- To get windows to boot, you'll have to lift the lid of the laptop and either try a ctrl+alt+del or press the power button to restart it.
Precision 7510 - Location grid boxes appear when dragging windows
Does anyone know how to disable the annoying boxes that appear when dragging a window around on the screen on a Precision 7510 running Windows 7?
Precision 7510 fingerprints
Does anyone know how to setup a Dell Precision 7510 to use the fingerprint scanner to log in? I've successfully enrolled the fingerprints but can't find how to activate logon with them.
BIOS Settings
I have an XPS-15 i7 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD drive. I happened to be browsing through the BIOS settings and noticed that in the System Configuration:
1. The "SATA Operation" was set to "RAID On".
2. In "Drives", SATA-0 and SATA-1 were checked although I have no SATA drives.
If the SATA drives do not exist, are these settings just ignored?

inspiron 1545 windows 7 bluetooth problem - tried everything HELP!
Hi there,
I'm working on a client's laptop - inspiron 1545 which has definitely a bluetooth module (I opened the unit and checked, it's the original bluetooth part). The bluetooth is not being recognized by the computer with Windows 7 64 bit. I searched through various forums, including this one, installed all possible drivers, even flushed the BIOS. I even went back to original Windows Vista Home Premium to check if that would help - NOTHING, absolutely nothing, the worst thing is that under Device Manager there is no trace of bluetooth, no unknown devices, simply the laptop acts as bluetooth is not there. I wouldn't make a big fuss about it, but A. the bluetooth has been working before B. Client has 3 devices on site that required bluetooth connectivity.
I tried to instal 32 bit Windows and Vista - wouldn't make any difference. I tried to install drivers from Vista and XP in Compatibility mode, I tried switching the bluetooth option on and off.
I tried taking the bluetooth module out of the laptop switching it on, and then switching it off, putting the module back in its place, switching it back on - nada.
I might buy the bluetooth dongle for that one, but I think there must be a way to make it work again.
I realize that this is an old laptop and no longer technically supported but maybe someone from Dell can look into it?
Oww, and yes, I installed dell's quickset, chipset and all drivers in correct order, that didn't change anything.
Thanks!
Windows Activation
I'm having trouble with win 10 (getting wifi working) and have a thread specifically on that subject already open. I'm in the position of installing win10 on my son's laptop and soon have to give it to him - but he lives 80 miles away. Win10 does not work in terms of wifi on this laptop but wifi does with win 7 so how can I resolve this win10 issue when I do no have the laptop? I can remotely access the laptop so is there an option of giving him back the laptop in a dual booting mode using win7 and win10? The win10 install licence is derived from the win7 key so what would the situation be if both OSs were install of the same machine - would it work?

how to activate the DVD drive on a Laptop 5050
I have had this laptop for three months and only now have I tried to use the DVD drive. I inserted a DVD-RW disc and closed the drive door expecting the disc to be recognized. It wasn't. Apparently there is no operational manual? Only a quick start which shows where the DVD drive is. Duh! And there is a manual if I want to repair the thing. Can someone explain how to activate the drive? I search files for the DVD drive but cannot find it. Why doesn't the drive self recognize and start as desk tops do. Or is it a problem with this problematic Windows 10?

Hi,
My dell inspiron n5110 sounds 8 beeps while starting up and sound disappears after windows loads and i can login to win 7 and work, after some period of time while working laptop shuts down.
I have done quick diagnostic and stress diagnostic both using build in diagnostic tool (F12) , no problems where identified in diagnostics.
