Multiple options for new Dell HDD - E6520 Latitude

Hi, looking for what the differences are in the various options per below link, for replacement hard drive on a Dell Latitude E6520.  Hard drive fried, Dell sending Win7 installation disc and I have the drivers (and know where to go in Support to get them if I can't find the disc).  Just need the right part!

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?category_id=7748&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&mfgpid=208493

The below link shows various prices and part #'s for seemingly the same exact product, a Dell 7200 RPM 500GB hard drive.  Why?  Which one do I order?

The machine is almost 5 years old. Not sure if it's worth ordering an SSD but if I do, will it come with everything I need to simply swap it out, including the faceplate for the end?

Also, since this'll be my first time in forever doing a fresh OS install:  1) any chance of recovering data from my old HDD error code 2000-0145; 2) is all I need to do replace the HDD, boot up to the CD/DVD drive to win7, and install windows, then download drivers when that finishes? Anything else I need to know?

Thank you

Frank

Problem: computer won't start, black screen, everything else is running.

LCD Bist test (d+power) works just fine. Then again black screen.

I connected external LCD (pressed fn+f8 on start up) and was able to see the windows logo then blue screen announced that video driver crashed.

System test (fn+power) Gives Monitor problem Msg: Error code 2000-0321. Msg: Unable to detect LCD. Finally I was able to start windows after I uninstalled ati video drivers. The red vertical lines appeared.

Tried installing multiple times different video drivers with the same result: blue screen- video driver failed.

Once windows starts normally on the laptop screen with standart video drivers. After restarting the system I have to use external lcd again.

I will appreciate any advise or suggestion. Thx

Wondering what the differences are between the Vostro and Inspiron lines?  Looking at a Vostro 3000 14" w/4th gen Pentium i3, 4gb RAM, 500gb HD and Windows 7 Pro @ $499 vs an Inspiron 3000 14" w/Pentium N3700, 4gb RAM, 500gb HD and Windows 10 Home @ $329.  Not sure where the $170 price diff is.  Can someone enlighten me?  Thanks.

Which tests can i perform to evaluate my computer's health and find out why it's so slow?

Good day everyone!

I've had my Dell Inspiron 7737 7000 series for about a year now. It has always run  dreadfully slow and formats have not alleviated this condition. I was hoping someone had a test or series of test to gauge its performance that i can show to the Dell Service dept.

I never have any silly viruse or play any games or download anything which is where most problems originate. I keep my Kaspersky internet security up to date as well as run Malwarebytes scans regularly., plus ccleaner, defragller and slim cleaner.

A set of tests i can perform to illustrate the problem to the tech service dept would be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Upgrading to SSD for Inspiron 15 3521

I haven't found a solution for my problem yet, I hope someone can help me with this. I recently updated my Inspiron 15 3521 to windows 10 and decide to upgrade the harddrive to SSD. I created a recovery disk drive on a USB with windows 10 before switching to a 64GB SSD drive. When I try to do a "recover from a drive", it gave me an error message that said "Unable to recover your PC. The system drive is too small." I tried it again with a 250GB SSD with the same error. Do I have to use a 512MB SSD? Is there a way I can do this on the 250GB SSD?

Thank you!

INSPIRON 7447 - HEAT AND WARRANTY ISSUE

Hi,

I just updated my laptop's drivers last week. However, i noticed that my laptop is hotter and produces more noise compared to last drivers. I'm not sure if it is normal for Dell 7447.

Anyone here have same issue with me?

Regarding the warranty issue, my warranty just finished last week. I have planned to extend my warranty. I just want to know, is it okay if i replace my HDD and RAM during under warranty period. The replacement will be made at local shop, not Dell Center.

Thank you.

Dell Inspiron N5050 Windows Error Recovery Loop

I recently acquireda laptop from a friend of mine because he said it didnt work. I ran a system restore on it and it worked great for a few days. It got really sluggish so i backed up my files on an external hard drive and restored it again. But when I went to start it up, it gave me the Windows Error Recovery screen. I tried Launch Startup Repair, but it brought me back to the same screen. I tried Start Windows Normally, but it booted up again, and brought me back to the same screen. I tried using F8 to repair my computer, boot in to safemode, everything you can think  of. What can I do to completely restore my computer to its former glory?

Fail at boot postcode, can't warm boot

Now I've got an Inspiron 3646, I've had it for about.... 3 months maybe? Started running Win 10 about a week into its life. Now a couple of weeks ago, it started not being able to warm boot. I get the Dell emblem, I get two of the dots in the circle, then the LED for HDD access goes off. And it sits there.

Its been happening for a while now. Cold boot is fine. I talked to a buddy of mine in IT to see if he knew anything. Back when I talked to him, I got a postcode that said "fail at boot postcode 0xA5". I can't find anything on it, and neither could he. We tried doing a drive wipe and a clean install of Win 10. I had to shut off and cold boot this poor machine at least three times for it to complete. He suggested it might be the motherboard. Now, I did run ePSA and the online Dell diagnostics in hoping it could tell me something. Well, I got nothing. He says that it could be a very serious problem as it is a postcode.

What worries me is now it says "fail at boot postcode 0xA4". So whatever this is, it seems to be "moving". I'm wondering if the postcode has anything to do with the warm boot failure. I haven't called Dell yet, and its still under warranty. But, I'm hoping that someone or something can help me out with this... before calling Dell and sending it in.

Dell Inspiron 5720 renegade mission (eGPU)

Hello everyone, I'm having my Dell Inspiron 5720 for already almost 4 years and since then I've got my demands to the hardware risen but the money is a problem so I've started to search for the possibilities to get some more GPU power without building or buying a new PC. (Plus my GT650M got burnt quite a while ago so I'm using that useless HD4000 for rendering which is...well...you know).

I've found out a questionable way to do what i want using an external PCIe dock for using a desktop graphics card under the laptop which costs about 50$. Also I've found that my laptop has one PCI port which is busy with WLAN card.

So i'm thinking of buying one of those PCIe docks, something like gtx750Ti or even gtx960 and a power supply for all of it (depends on how much I need).

The questions are:

- will it even work?

- is it worth to do since I'm expecting a huge power loss because the way to connect all the stuff is...questionable

I will record a video of this risky experiment if we come up with a decision it may actually works since I believe i'm not the only one stuck with no money but a lot of hardware demand.

On occasions, when I connect the power cable, or sometimes disconnect, my laptop powers down to a sleep condition.  Contacted Dell about a month ago, and have given them the results of hardware tests and other required info, tests do not indicate any problems, but have heard nothing back yet.
I have contacted them again today, but no response as yet. In the meantime, has anyone any suggestions on what the problem might be, and should I request Dell to repair under warranty?
Thank You.

2 RAM modules running at different voltage, Dell inspiron 14r 7420SE.

Hello, I recently upgraded my laptop RAM by adding a new module to the free slot. The manufacturer RAM runs at 1.5v (Hyundai Electronics, HMT351S6CFR8C-PB) .

The new Crucial RAM (CT51264BF160BJ.C8F) I got says that it can operate at either 1.35v or 1.5v. CPUID shows that the Crucial RAM is currently running at 1.35v. Is this ok? aren't both ram supposed to work at same voltage. I've also tested ram with memtest86 and dell diagnostics no errors found.

Thanks!

Hi,

I recently updated my windows to Win 10,it was working fine for a week although the ATI  graphic card would stop working and recover successfully.

Since yesterday i am unable to power on the laptop and upon powering on the device i am getting 8 beeps in response and absolutely no display, not even blank screen.I looked up online and found that this could be a LCD failure or in some cases GPU failure. Please suggest me a diagnosis and also what will be the cost in each case.

Laptop specs:

Inspiron n4010

i3 first generation

4 gb ram

ATI radeon hd 5650-not switchable

Thanks

This is probably something simple that I have overlooked, but I don't have the option to post anywhere but in the "New to the Community" section. I know my recent post was redirected to the Laptop section, but I don't see a new post option in that section.

Please advise.

I went to upgrade memory to 2 Gigabyte now when I push the power on button the power indicator lights up the hard drive indicator lights up the Alpha lock light flashes and then the hard drive light goes out and then it shuts itself off with no post beeps. What and where might I find some information on this. I have removed the battery and unplugged the power and pushed the start button for 30 seconds as i found on a web page but it did not work. There is no indication on the screen nothing other than the lights i mention.

Laptop CPU

Greetings,

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 Laptop I am looking to upgrade. I was looking for a CPU upgrade, noting my CPU is not soldered to the motherboard. I have taken it out plenty of times. Also would you recommend me switching to a caddy ssd replacing the cd drive and then another ssd replacing my hard drive? I really do not want to buy a new laptop because I really like to style and feel of this one.

Thank you for your help.

XPS 13 9343 Refurb Replacement HORRIBLE battery life

$

Hello,

I had the 2013 XPS 13 and it was damaged and replaced with a refurbished XPS 13 9343.  I have noticed that battery life is horrible compared to my old machine.  I'm only getting about 2 hours of use out of a charge doing the same exact stuff I did on my old model but that one would last forever.  I'm a grad student and when I used my last laptop I'd be able to get through multiple 1:45 hour classes but my new system can barely make it through one class.  I have brightness at like 20% on battery and I have the power saver plan set on battery as well as windows 10 power saver.  Dell battery monitor is reporting my battery is "excellent" but it's not.  I have tried a number of things..

increasing the power saver settings, lowering the screen resolution to 1080p (I have the high res one).  I have generated windows 10 battery reports and it lists my average time as 2.5 hours.  This is insane.  I really would like my older model back just for this reason.  I do not know if my refurbished unit just got a bum battery (but then why would it say it's in excellent health?)

I'm very disappointed in the battery life of this unit.. 2.5 hours doing the same exact stuff I did on my 2013 model but yet that one would get like 6-9 hours..  Something does not seem right at all
