XPS 15 9550 (512GB SSD) AHCI or RAID issues

$

I've noticed that when I use the Laptop with the default configuration (RAID) for the Samsung PM951 NVMe SSD, that NVMe is not working correctly. All communication go's trough the Intel Chipset Drivers and the drive is not correctly detected as an NVMe SSD by windows.

The performance is a bit lower than expected 1500MB/s read / 500 MB/s write seq.
It appears that TRIM isn't working correctly either.

I've tried switching to AHCI mode and this solves these problems, I get much better performance and the drive is correctly detected as NVMe SSD by Windows and I can install the Samsung NVMe drivers.

The only problem is that when rebooting the laptop the system doesn't reboot, it gives an error message about the boot drive being unreadable.

Doing a shutdown and normal startup works, fine but is inconvenient. (I'm using the latest bios version 01.01.15.)
I'm wondering if Dell is aware of this problem and if a fix is in the making or not?

Hello,

The problems which I face are :

1. Sometimes, the screen becomes disturbed and blurred during startup. Issue gets resolved when the laptop is restarted.

2. When I connect the laptop to the internet, then the digit 7 starts appearing in any text field present on the page. A similar observation is also made in the text field of the laptop, like the "search" text field, etc.

I have a latitude 10 sr2e that I couldn't find the power cord for,  and once I did I plugged it in for the night and tried to stay it up but nothing.  Only thing that happens is the white light next to the power button flashes worth the camera light.  I can't notice any code blinking and I have a 30 sec video of it (just don't know how to load it). Todds only happens when I hold the power button down otherwise nothing happens.

Dell Inspiron 15 3521 battery won't recharge

This headache began after I was prompted to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Since, the battery will not recharge. It does for about 30 sec then switches to "Plugged in, not charging". After research, the solution was to upgrade the Bios. I have downloaded the bios but as soon as I run it, it stops and displays s message saying that the battery needs to be charged above 10%, without even considering the fact that the computer is still plugged in. There is no problem with the AC adapter, there is no problem with the battery. My solution is very simple, I need to recharge this battery to let's say 20% and I'm good to go.

Where can I have that done?

Can't disable touchpad

I've been trying to disable the touchpad on my Latitude E6400 because of erratic cursor movement. The device manager doesn't show a mouse or touchpad icon. I selected my computer, scrolled to the touchpad and opened properties. The disable tab is not active.  Dell's site states:

Depending on the manufacture and software version of the drivers and software for your touchpad, an option to disable or enable the touchpad may or may not be available.

Does anyone know how to tell if my laptop is one that doesn't have the option to disable?

Dears,

I have dell 1525 from more than 7 years with no issues...

last 2 week I have issue that when the Ac adapter connected the laptop will shout off after seconds. but it a disconnect the Ac adapter it will start normally. and it will be shout off if I reconnect the AC adapter (like what happen when holding power button). and the screen will turn off immediately..

also I try to insert the AC adapter for 1-2 seconds when the laptop running windows (on battery) this will cause a shut down order like pressing power button for 1-2 second. but the screen will turned off immediately. but I still hear the sound of normal windows shout down...

I test the voltage of the adapter it is 19.4 (Normal). so it is not fault of AC adapter and battery is not fault also..

Any suggestions, please.

Inspiron 3452 Boot Configuration Data file issue

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 3452 as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend.
It turned out that the 32gb drive was not large enough to handle all of the Windows 10 updates.
I wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu, which worked perfect other than constantly dropping the WiFi connection.
We decided to go back to Windows 8.1, and scale it down.
Install is via a bootable USB, since there is no cd/dvd.
All BIOS setting are default, other than changing the boot order to USB first.

The install asks where do I want to install Windows?
The only option is:
Drive 1 Partition 1  29.1gb total, 29.0gb free, type: primary

The following message shows below the box:
Windows can't be installed on drive 1 partition 1. (Show details)

The details:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk.
This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.
Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer BIOS menu.
(I do not see anything in the BIOS about enabling the disk controller)

Dell SupportAssist runs.
Service Tag:
ePSA: Build 4302.09 UEFI ROM
Your systems seems to be having trouble starting
Dell SupportAssist is scanning your hardware for a possible cause.

Scan results:
Hardware scan complete with no issues..
No bootable devices were found! Possible causes could be a corrupt OS image or a boot device is not enabled in BIOS setup.

After rebooting with the USB installer plugged in, I get a blue screen:
Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data file doesn't contain valid information for an operating system.
File:\Boot\BCD
0xc0000098
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media.
(this screen will not go away unless I wipe the USB and reload with a different version...ie 32bit instead of 64,
and this results in a similar loop.

I did some googling on the error code. Instucted to insert USB with .iso,
click repair/trouble shoot/advanced options/command prompt and enter the following:

bootrec /FixMbr
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /ScanOs
bootrec /Rebuild Bcd

diskpart
sel disk O
list vol

This seems to have no effect, and I am stuck in an endless loop.

This 1 hour project has turned into 3 days of frustration.
Does anyone have a solution? Thanks!

XPS 15 9550 fan turns on when plugged in

This is my second XPS 15 9550, the first one had a similar issue where the CPU fan would turn on and run full speed when plugged in (up until about 80% then it would shut off). On this unit, when it is plugged in, another fan turns on but it's much quieter. I'm guessing it's a GPU fan? Does the CPU fan only have 1 speed? When it is unplugged the laptop the fan turns off.

I have all current video drivers and BIOS and all power settings are set to passive. Is this a hardware defect and should I return it for a 3rd unit?

The wife has just got one of these and wants me to install Win7 64bit instead of Win10.  Does anyone know the correct SSD driver to use during the installation?  As it stands it won't recognise the drive and the Intel Rapid Storage ones from the Dell support page don't work.

frozen screen

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude 3550 with Word 10 pro. Yesterday, 1/15/06, I downloaded a Word 10 update that was suppose to remove any previous glitches and also downloaded the driver that the notification also suggested. When I turned on my pc this morning my pc read  that the touchscreen had been  disengaged. Now my cursor will not move, causing my screen to be totally frozen in time. What can be done?  I'm on my old Vista right now because my new pc is frozen! I also had trouble with the wifi connection cutting off before this happened.

Alienware 15 R2, Cant install fresh Windows 10 to my SSD

Hi, as stated in my subject line, I own a Alienware 15 R2 that Ive been having problems with and I now want to do a fresh install of Windows 10.

When I boot from the Windows 10 loaded USB stick everything is fine but Windows only lists my regular hard drive and not my m.2 pcie 256gb solid state drive. This is where I want my OS to be and use the other for storage.

I can get it to work if I turn off secure boot and put it in Legacy mode in the BIOS, but it was shipped to me with secure boot, UEFI and RAID mode, so there must be a way to put Windows on there with it enabled.

Please help me. Thanks in advance

Hello,

I have recently noticed that I am unable to change brightness with fn + up/down keys, as well from display settings, or windows mobility center.

The value changes but the display is struck at certain brightness.i.e no effect if i make it 0 or 100.

I have tried updating the latest intel video driver as well nvidia driver from the vendors website, but no avail.

Though i can change brightness during the bios laod, but as soon as the windows logo comes, the brightness get sets to a certain value and i cant change it thereafter.

I think this problem arrived after windows automatic updated HD 4600 driver, now I have disabled windows update.

Thanks

Inspiron 14 3452: Can't install Windows 10

$

First off, this laptop is an absolute joke and I can't even believe Dell would release something like this.  Soldered eMMC with barely enough space to even run Windows?  Genius.  Slot for a harddrive but it's only for show since you can't even add another drive?  Even better.

My brother in law bought this sad excuse for a laptop and gave it to me because out of the box it's not even usable.  I formatted the entire drive with the hopes of installing Windows 10 on it again and just using a 64GB SD card for actual programs since that's all that would even fit on the built in drive.

Now when I get to the Windows set up, I can see the drive in there but it won't let me install it.  It keeps telling me to check the BIOS and make sure the controller is enabled but there is nothing in there to even indicate a drive controller.  I reset the BIOS to defaults, updated it to the latest version, nothing makes a difference.  Every time I try to piuck the drive to install to, it tells me "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the controller is enabled in the BIOS".

How can I make piece of garbage accept the Windows 10 install?
