Latitude 7350 and Windows 7

$

I'm in a corporate environment that currently mandates Windows 7.  I ordered a Latitude 7350 on the assumption that it would be good with Win7.  The good news is that it does work.  Mostly.

The exceptions are the Realtek audio, and the touchscreen monitor (the screen itself works, the touch response doesn't).

I've tried drivers from similar older Dell models, to no avail... I tried the Realtek "all in one" audio drivers from their web site, no joy.  If I have to wait until Windows 10, obviously I will... but would rather have audio and/or touch in the meantime.  Ironically, I have a touch monitor on an older Dell Win7 laptop and can use the touch functionality fine on it (obviously, not on the laptop's screen -- just on the external touch-enabled monitor).

Any helpful suggestions would be most welcome!  Otherwise, I'll wait and use it in this degraded state.

Why does USB 3.0 port on Inspiron 17 5748 not work with Plugable USB3-HUB7-81X

I  received a Plugable USB3-HUB7-81x from Amazon several days ago. {{Two years ago I purchased a USB3-Hub7 from Amazon which works flawlessly---a Plugable 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub with 4A Power Adapter (VIA VL812 Rev B2 Chipset and updated firmware v9081 with Linux, OS X, and Windows support and full.}}}

The device I received recently will not function when attached to the 3.0 USB port on my Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series  laptop(model #5748).  It works without problems when plugged into a 2.0 port.  I have rebooted several times without correction of the problem. The following message is displayed in the right lower corner of the laptop screen briefly just after the blue LED lights blink on the new Plugable 7 hub and then go dark.  "The hub does not have enough power available to operate the USB Mass Storage Device. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
Does anyone know if the USB 3 port on the Dell Laptop has limited expandibility?  - did Dell make it with this flaw/defect?

New Dell Inspiron freezing in sleep mode

I just got a new Dell Inspiron which comes with Windows 10 yesterday (January 17th) and I've already ran into an annoying issue with it - every time it seems to enter sleep mode, it freezes. The first time, it went into sleep mode due to lack of activity (the laptop was open) and I noticed that the caps lock light (caps lock was left on) wouldn't turn off when I pressed it, leaving me to guess the computer was frozen. I could hear it running, faintly though. No keyboard buttons or the power would make it turn off, so I had to hold down the power button.

The second time, I was playing the Sims 3 on Steam, I closed the laptop for a second and when I opened it back up, absolutely nothing would make it turn back on. I haven't actually turned it off (by holding the power button) yet, I just closed it because I didn't really want to lose my progress on the game, not that that's very important. Right now I'm using my older Macbook Air.

Also another thing, the first night, it was charged, and then I had it unplugged for the night, but the laptop was closed so I'm pretty sure it was in sleep mode. When I turned it back on, the computer had shut off because apparently the battery had died. I don't think the battery should have drained that fast ...

EDIT: I think this laptop (which, my dad got me for Christmas, though it was late because he doesn't live near me) was probably not a new laptop. It also had a dead pixel on the screen (usually older computers have those ...)

D630 XFR laptop IO board (side usb / Ethernet panel)

I hope that someone may help me with this problem - in Dell D630 XFR there is side electronic board attached to motherboard with screws. That board contains side USB, Ethernet and phone line plugs. But unlike D630 LATITIUDE or D630 ATG laptops, in XFR this board have two additional socket. One of them looks should be for touch screen. I need to know what is the other one for? It has 8 pins.

This board is in service manual described as IO board. Its dell part number is: 0D868C

Please see below poto of the part:

I hope someone knows.

Grey spots on Inspiron 5758 screen

I just bought a refurbished Inspiron 5758 on 1.5, opened the box on 1.9 and I now have two light colored grey marks (they look like grease spots that you would see on paper) on the bottom right of my screen.  There has been no water, no pressure that could have caused this, they just showed up today.  What do I need to do to have this dealt with?

Help restoring laptop to factory settings

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that originally had Windows 7. I upgraded all my computers to windows 10, then about a month ago it crashed my desktop computer and I lost a ton of stuff. Shortly after that my laptop started getting random errors and doing the same things the desktop did before it crashed. I backed up my stuff from the laptop and now I want to restore it to factory settings to get rid of windows 10. Problem is, I cannot figure out how to do it. I've read tons of stuff online about how to do it but my options seem to be different. I have Dell DataSafe on my computer so I follow instructions found online and click "Restore My files". I see all the options that should be there but the one I need (Restore to factory state) is greyed out so there is no way to click on it. So, I try restarting the computer and pushing F8 at the first screen and hit "repair my computer". On the next screen I'm supposed to have Dell Backup and Recovery manager or something similar. I do not have that option. I've tried messing around with the other options but I've not had much luck. I check in disk management and I do have a partition that is labeled "RECOVERY" and it says that it's healthy. Is there another way to reset my computer to factory settings? I just want to get rid of windows 10 and be back to 7. You may need to dumb down answers for me since I'm slightly computer illiterate.

Thanks

Thought would post this as took a while to isolate issue.

SYMPTOM

USB hard drive would periodically stall/dropout and reconnect.  Occurred on USB 2 and 3 ports on the XPS 13, however drive worked fine on another USB2 laptop.

Tried reinstalling drivers - same issue.  Disabled USB root power management - no impact

FIX

Replaced the USB 3.0 cord.  Tested with power management back on and shifted multiple files back and forth, no issue now.

Dell Inspiron 7537 Laptop Won't Power On?

$

I've just done a clean install of W10 on my Dell Inspiron 7537 laptop. I turned off the laptop last night when the battery was about half discharged.

I tried turning on the laptop today after it had been off 18 hours and it was completely dead - there was no response to the power on button and no charging light despite the charger outputting the correct voltage.

I read online about removing the battery so I did this. I removed the battery, pressed the power button for 60s then plugged in the power lead and hey presto the laptop started! I then put the battery back in and started W10 fine. The battery showed 56% charge so the battery wasn't flat.

I'm mystified why this happened - does anyone have an explanation? I can only think there was a poor battery connection which prevented the laptop starting and removing and replacing the battery cured this.

I've also discovered on Googling the problem that some Dell batteries shut down after a certain number of charge cycles. Is there a utility program available which lets you check how many charge cycles the battery has been exposed to and how close the battery is to its end of life.

Still having a bouncy trackpad experience (xps 9350)

Hi, after updating all the drivers, including BIOS 1.1.9 and windows to the latest ones - I'm still experiencing a bouncy trackpad. That is, when i scroll, it sometimes has a rubber band effect and snaps me back a few inches - other times it throws me to the top of the website again.

Has anyone found a solution yet? I've tried most things - like disabling certain settings as pinch-to-zoom etc.

Thank you in advance!

Dell XPS 9530 won't turn on

I have had a weird issue with my Dell XPS 9530 machine. It is less than a year old. I sprung and bought the one with the bigger solid state drive b/c SSD memory seems better.

However, for spending all this monry, the power button is extremely temperamental. Sometimes it takes numerous tries to get the machine to turn on. I tried changing the settings so it didn't sleep, but hibernated and that seemed to make it better, but the last couple weeks it has come back to it's normal tricks.

Last night I plugged my computer in, used it for a bit, then left it plugged in to charge. I attempted to power on my machine this morning to do something and it would not come on. It was totally unresponsive - no power light, no fan, no keyboard lights etc. I tried a number of times as I was aware of the problems with the power button but to no avail. I also tried plugging into a power source but I have had no luck!

I'm an experienced user. This machine is less than a year old and I use this machine for graphics, websites and general use (surfing the internet).

I do notice that the power cord does not stay in. I have to make sure that when I leave it to charge that I check to make sure the power cord is plugged all the way in. If I use it plugged in, I notice the power cord comes loose quite easily and an error message comes on about the computer not recognizing a power source.

However, last night when I left it, the power cord was plugged in and it was charging fine and had no error message.

Please help! I am not a wealthy woman, and cannot afford to have a $2,000 paperweight! I need this computer to work!

How do I clean out both hard drives on my xps so I can do a clean instal off my backups? Every time I back up everything it adds more to the hard drives and they are almost full.  The computer keeps slowing down and freezing up and I just want to wipe it and start fresh. I tried the repair option but it didn't work.

3 month old laptop

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Timothy Rex the 4th and I reside in London On. Canada. I recently purchased a laptop online as a gift for my spouse(less then 4 months old) Their have been nothing but technical issues from the start but luckily I work at a very large computer college here in London and have been able to work out most of the issues on my own. I should qualify that I am A+ certified as well as to many other certifications to list. My computer lab consists of 94 Dell laptops that are used daily by my students and to this point I have been very happy with your products. However the issue that has arose is that I was told that a tech support rep would be out to fix this personal laptop in 24-48 hours. This laptop is the one my spouse uses daily for work purposes and now she has a serious backlog of information to input so she can get paid. On top of all this I have taken the last 2 days of work in order to be here for the tech rep who is a no show. I have lost close to $600 in wages in the last two days which is unacceptable. I get a call this morning from my spouse to find out she received an email saying there is another delay. I called and reached Anna is the Phillipines and had to have this escalated to her supervisor Bygee. He in formed me that the motherboard for this part was out of stock in Canada and wouldn't even be shipped until the 24th of this month. Which means arrival is at best early Feb. Now saying all this I was able to locate a motherboard here in Canada within 10 minutes on the telephone. If its going to take that long to fix a problem then your warranty is useless in my opinion. I think the right thing to do would be for you to ship out a new laptop and allow us to return the 3 month old one.
I have an annual budget of $90000 for my computer lab and most has been spent with Dell in recent years, I am asking you to do the right thing here so we can continue to have a satisfactory relationship. I would suggest this email be taken very seriously and that you also do something to make up for our time, Lost wages. I eagerly look forward to your reply to see if the Dell brand stands behind it's products.

BIOS Setup Lock/Password

Hi!

I'm a computer technician at a school and one of my teachers has a laptop for which they've forgotten the system password in the BIOS. I've already reset the other passwords on the system, but I'd like to be able to change the boot order so that the two failure to boot messages don't appear before loading Windows.

Is there anyone available who might be able to create a Master Password for me? I have the system code and serial number from the laptop available.

Thanks!
