Precision M6500 - Blue Power Light Only

$

I have a Precision M6500 that will not boot.  Heck, it seems it will not even power on.  When I press power button on, both power button and power indicator light (side) turn on (blue).  Nothing else happens.  HDD does not spin, fans do not spin, screen does not light, bios does not load.  The laptop just remains suspended in this mode - no other lights.  When I cycle the power button off, both blue lights remain on while video card and CPU fans spin at high speed for 5 seconds, followed by both fans and both blue lights turning off.

I have removed battery.  Same result.  I have removed HDD.  Same result.  I have removed RAM from bays 3 and 4.  Same result.  I have tried getting video through VGA.  Same result.

Anything else I should try? Or, any indication for what might be the hang up?

Thanks for any help offered.

Dell inspiron 5520 hardrive swap with Inspiron E1505

My hardrive recently died on my Inspiron 5520 and I realized that the old 50gig HD on my Inspiron E1505 would fit. I have Dell recovery media (CD) and went to reinstall but my 5520 told me there was not enough memory on the HD. I loaded the HD back in my E1505 and cleaned up (it was kinda full) and now have 35 gigs free. Is there anything I should do with my HD before installing in my 5520 and using the recovery media to reinstall? Thanks very much for any knowledge on this, as it is new territory for me!

Inspiron 15 3520 wont turn on

I've had this lap top for almost 3 years and never had a problem with it. I haven't spilled anything on it, I've droped it a time or two but it has never affected it afterwards. It was working fine Wednesday morning. I put it back on the charger after I was done with it, did not turn it off just closed the lid like I normally do. and then when I came back Thursday night I could not to get it boot up. The power light comes on the Hard drive light comes on for a bout a second and then goes back off and then you can hear the fan running and that's all it does( no beeps or anything). Since my warranty is no longer in effect, I used the recommendation of removing the memory module where then I get 2 beeps when i try to turn it on. I've even gone as far as removing the hard drive and CD drive and I just get the 2 beeps. I've plugged it into another monitor and still get nothing. What else can i do?

Can't change backlit keyboard settings

I recently just got a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 initially set with Windows 8.1, now on Windows 10. I just started using the backlit keyboard and I was fed up with the 15-second setting on my keyboard. So I did some research. I know to change the timing it's in Windows Mobility, however it does not how Dell Customization. I dug deeper and found out that some users were using Dell Quickset Application. I don't have that either and couldn't find a file compatible with my laptop. Now what?

Thanks

Inspiron 14 3451 Touchpad with Windows 10

I recently picked up an Inspiron 14" 3451 for work. I love windows 10 on my desktop so immediately upgraded the Insprion's 8.1 OS, but (as someone who loves a clean wipe with no bloatware) checked "Keep nothing" when installing.

Since the the Dell's touchpad is listed as a generic PS/2 Mouse under the Device Manager, and no driver installation or restart can convince Windows otherwise.  That that means is I can't scroll or use any gesture based navigation!

I've gone to the support page and downloaded the drivers, they do nothing. I feel like there's a piece of software I'm missing and can't see to find.  Any help would be appreciated, navigating Word Documents and websites is really awful right now.

Inspiron 5548 BIOS Update Failure

I have an 15" Inspiron 5548 running the A05 BIOS update from (7/27/15) and Windows 10. I have been experiencing some loud fan noise issues and high CPU Usage.

I noticed there was a more recent BIOS available from Mid September also title A05. I followed Dell's installation instructions and ran into a major issue. After the computer restarted to install the new BIOS i was brought to a loading screen where I would keep receiving the error message "No boot device found strike any key to restart". I did this about 5 times before deciding that something was wrong.

I held F12 and went to the boot settings, after messing around a bit I finally managed to get the computer to start to windows again by selecting UEFI Boot not secure or something along those lines. This was the only way I could get my computer to start again.

Once the computer was started again I checked my BIOS version to find that it was still the same version as before I started! I have tried to install the new version three times and have run into the same problem everytime!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How to identify DELL dock uniquely?

$

Hi All,

I have a requirement of uniquely identifying DELL docking station when I am docking my DELL laptop. Here’s a details description of the context.

Let’s say, I have got 20 desks in my office. Each desk has got DELL dock and related peripheral devices (keyboard, mouse, display, etc;). We’ve got 20 employees who are free to use any desk. I need to make a relationship such that what laptop has connected via which docking station. I am going to write a program/script to uniquely identify each docking station when someone is docking his/her laptop and send those information to a DB. So, I am looking for some id such as serial number, MAC address (if any) or whatever which could be retrieved via a program or script?

Can anyone please give me some hits?

Cheers,

Doonyx

Inspiron 3148 touch-screen not working after lid closed/opened or sleep entered/left

Hi,

More often than not when I:

1) close the lid and re-open it (I've configured the action on closing lid to be "do nothing")

or

2) put the device into sleep then wake it up

the touch screen completely stops working.

The only way to fix the issue is to restart or power-cycle the device.

Has anyone else seen this issue and been able to fix it?

Many Thanks,

Alan

My Dell Recognizes Touchpad As A Compatible Mouse

$

Hey guys... I am  new to this community. I was using HP laptop for like, 4 years. But I wanted to change to Dell as everyone says it's better & faster. Anyways, now, my touchpad works great, " tapping and moving the pointer" but there isn't any touchpad features. Like "Zooming, Scrolling, etc." As I was using 'em all the time in my last HP device. I really want to have them on this Dell too.

So in my last pc. Every time, when I format it " the HP one" it was giving all the drivers & updates right after finishing formatting directly from Windows Update. On this dell, it gave me drivers for Bluetooth, Graphic card, etc. But didn't give me "Synaptics touchpad driver"

When I entered device manager, my touchpad recognized as " PS/2 Compatible Mouse " instead of "PS/2 touchpad" As I think it should be like that, so guys, please if you know any solutions for this, type 'em bellow.

Thanks so much.

XPS lid sensor not working properly

$

My XPS 140 will not power up unless I leave a small magnet on top of the lid sensor pickup.  The lid sensor pickup is adjacent to the right mouse button under the glide pad.  If I tape the magnet to the surface then the power switch turns on and off the laptop like it is supposed to.  Maybe someone can make a suggestion of how to fix this problem.  If I do not attach the magnet then I can only turn the laptop on if I close and open the lid.   It is likely that I did something wrong when I re-assembled the laptop after replacing the power connector PCB.  I replaced that power connector because I was unaware that my genuine "dell" power adapter had a defective DS2501 code ID chip.  I thought the power connector had failed when my laptop quit charging while the power supply seemed fine and provided 19 volts like it was supposed to.

Sorry to re post this problem but my original "stuck in sleep mode" did indicate real problem with the sensor.

Was there a class action settlement or recall on account of the DS2501 ID Code chip?

My M-140 laptop stopped charging and and after replacing the battery (it was old) I then replaced the internal power connector PCB assembly as I thought that was the problem.  I first measured the output of the charger, it was 19 volts, and my laptop seemed to work fine so I thought the PCB was bad and was stopping the battery from charging.  This did not fix the problem and I then googled more about this and found that a defective DS2501 chip in the power supply causes the laptop not to charge and to run at 1/2 speed.  I then bought a replacement genuine DELL charger that was much more expensive than others available.  This fixed the problem but unfortunately, something went wrong when I reassembled the laptop and I cannot turn the laptop on with the power switch unless I tape a small magnet adjacent to the lid closing sensor.  That is the subject of another post here.

Since the purpose of the DS2501 is to prevent an owner from using an inexpensive replacement charger, and, according to what I recently read, an unshielded power cable causes the DS2501 chip to fail, it would appear there should have been a recall or class action law suit about this problem.

Googleing I do see there were some lawsuits but it is not clear if  my laptop was involved nor did I ever get a recall notice.   Anyway, just wondering if there was one.
