Vostro 5470 Won't Turn Off (Black Screen, HDD Lights Off But Other Stays On)

Hi. Recently my Vostro 5470 (i5) won't turn off nor restart. This problem happens after i've replaced it's battery and HDD (and for unknown reason, the service centre in my city replace the HDD with Toshiba, 7200RPM 500GB SATA), just one week before my warranty expired.

So whenever I've used my laptop in about an hour or more, 100% it won't turn off/restart. If I choose to shut down, after -+10 seconds the HDD goes off, but everything stays on (power lamp, fan etc). I can do force shut down but it's not normal, right. And if I choose to restart, my laptop will shutdown itself, just like doing a force shutdown. This also happens when I choose sleep.

But if I only use it in about 30 minutes, there's no problem. I already did many test to the HDD (defrag, Dell SupportAssist, BIOS test, BIOS thorough test) and the results was fine with no issues at all.

Fyi, i've updated it's BIOS to A11 few months back, BUT, when I found out, there are new BIOS update on 24 Sept for Windows 10, but with the same version (A11 too). Does it might be my current BIOS is the problem? I don't have enough guts to update, since my warranty is already ended. Please help.

Thank you.

Cannot connect to the Internet, red X on the network symbol and Wifi drivers/cards not recognized

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5521, windows 8.1 64 bit laptop. Since the past few months I have been facing an issue with Internet connectivity. For some absolutely unknown reason and quite randomly, my internet disappears and I am left with a red X on the wifi/internet symbol on the task bar. It shows 'no networks available' message even though the wifi router is completely fine and turned on. I've tried various ways to fix it, restarting the system, enabling/disabling the network drivers from Device Manager, all my drivers are up to date. However nothing works for sure. It just randomly decides to come on at will and it's rather annoying coz I don't know what triggers it. Sometimes it will simply be because I've moved the laptop, other times it's because I plug the charger in or even if I simply go to a different place such as a friends house or uni.

Recently, the wifi drivers randomly go missing, and when I try to install them it says no suitable program found and hence it won't install them. I think my laptop cannot recognise the wifi hardware for some reason.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this issue?

Thank you!

Precision M4600 - Brief blink of power button

I have an M4600, and it will not power up.   Symptoms are the following.   With battery, or power adaptor, or both connected, the power button will light for about half a second, and the fan underneath the power button will spin for about 1 second.   There is no post, no other blinks of any kind.

Also, there is a brief, half second blink of the battery light when the power adaptor is plugged in.

There was an error message seen by the end user before the failure, but, as usual, no effort was made to record what the message was.   :(

I've tried all the power up options I could find on the web, I've removed all easily accessed devices, such as HD, memory, CD Rom, and wireless card to no avail.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Why is the same battery I bought 2 years ago now almost twice the price?

System Restore - Dell Laptop

Trying to restore the system to a previous date but unable to.

I have gone to the System Properties page and turned Recovery to "On" under Protection Settings, but when I hit "Configure" the only two options are "Only restore previous versions of files" and "Turn off system protection".

It looks as if the option "Restore system settings and previous versions of files" should be chosen, but it is grayed out and doesn't allow me to make that selection.

If anyone has input I would be very grateful, thank you in advance and the laptop information is below:

Intel (R) Core (TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz 2.10 GHz (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS)

Does Dell XPS 14 L421X mini DP port support DP 1.2?

I have an existing Dell XPS 14 L421X and was trying to connect two Dell Ultrasharp U2414H monitors via a DP cascading cable from one monitor to the other but feel that the mini DP port on the laptop does not support DP 1.2.  I have already enabled DP 1.2 on the monitors but still not able to see both external monitors.  Can anyone confirm whether DP 1.2 is supported on the particular model of Dell laptop?

Thank you in advance.

P28F charging problems

Hi all.

I have a Dell P28F laptop, bought about a year ago.

To date it has been working pretty faultlessly.

However, I disconnected it from mains power to show something to a workmate and it shut down instantly. This is something I do regularly but the shutdown has never happened before.

I rebooted (on mains power) and it booted up with a message telling me my battery was flat, something I knew couldn't be the case. I shut down, removed and replaced the battery and now it said I had 100% battery power, but unplugging the mains power caused an instant shutdown.

I am backing up now, preparing for a disaster and I noticed the battery light was alternating between red and white. It is now a dull white glimmer.

Any thoughts?

Regards

Pat Clarke

Dell Precision M4800 Battery Communication Error

Recently, the battery on my Precision M4800 suddenly stopped charging and providing power. This is a Standard 97 wh 9 cell primary battery. It had worked fine until this point, held a charge for as long as it did when first received, and the Power Manager reported that it was healthy when checked regularly.

When entering setup in BIOS on startup, I see a warning for the battery that there is a battery communication error. The Dell Power Manager however tells me that the battery no longer functions and needs to be replaced. My understanding is that if it is a communication error, it could be a motherboard problem, which would still be covered under warranty. My battery, however, is unfortunately just past the one-year warranty coverage.

Laptop seems to run fine under AC power. I do not have another computer that I can test the battery in.

Is there any way I can tell if I actually do need to buy a new battery? Has this problem been seen before?

Dell laptop - issues with cursor jumping while I try to type

Now this Dell Inspiron laptop with Win7 has issues with the cursor jumping while I try to type.  As I try to enter a message on Facebook, for example, the place where entry appears is too unstable to proceed.  It sometimes even results in the whole page being dismissed.  (I also use the most current version of Mozilla Firefox.)  I am also using a Dell USB mouse.  (I have had to abandon it and am entering this message on another Win7 based PC, with the same Firefox browser.)

D531 - do not power on without error messagges

Hi everybody!

I am new on this forum.

This is my first problem that I ask support or suggest information here.

My collection of dell laptop is the following: C600, C610, D620, D830 and D531.

The problem is on the Dell Latitude D531.

I have installed W10 2 weeks ago.

It worked very good until, two days ago, while shutting down, it has switched off without any messages.

Now when I push the power switch, the power-on led switch on for 2-4 seconds and the HDU start run.

During this short time the video display remain black and the fan don’t run.

After this short time the power on led switch off and the hdu stop run.

I removed everything, hard disk, dvd, memory, bluetooth card, without solving the problem.

I tried other two power supply without solve the problem.

I tried to switch on with the Fn button and the result is: the three device status led switch on for 2-4 seconds and than switch off.

I remove the connector of the disply under the keyboard without solve the problem.

Any suggestion?

Thanks to all.

Albino.

Hi,

I've noticed that when using the default Dell Power Plan in Power Options, it keeps changing the maximum processor rate to 5%. Seems to work fine on the standard Windows plan/no changes...

Does it with both Win 8.1 and Win 10.

Cheers.

17-3737 reinstall windows7 drivers

Hard drive failed, laptop is little over year old. Installed new Seagate 1tb 8mb 5400rpm, whatever that means.  Ordered and rec'd CD (backup/restore never worked) which is bare 7 (home premium) and no drivers. I am lost.  The order to install drivers has Dell system utilites first - what and where are they?  I don't see anything in my download list named system or utility.  Are they already installed from the bare CD?  Once I get the first correct driver installed I could probably figure out the others. Would it be harmful to download all the files in each catagory listed for my machine since I'm clueless?  If I need to private message, please instruct!  Last time I was unable to see the option.  Thank you smart people.

M3800 USB 3 Problems

$

I've had my M3800 for 20 months now, and it has had issues from day 1 that are still unresolved. My motherboard has been replaced three times, and the keyboard twice. It appears Dell is unable to fix the problems, so I've resolved to just live with them until it's time to replace the laptop. This is my first Dell in quite some time. Previously I've had Compaq and HP, and never had an issue with any of them.

The USB 3 ports on the left seldom recognize USB 3 devices, but the right side USB 3 port always does. This has happened with my Note 3, and a hard drive I have in a USB 3 enclosure. Plug the same device and cable into the right side and it works fine.

The other issue I have is the left shift key will stick (not physically) randomly while typing or using the arrow keys. The odd thing is it will also do this with an external keyboard.

I have three OSes on my laptop (W7P, W8.1P, Linux Mint 17.1), and these issues appear in all of them, even in virtual machines running in Virtual Box! Because of this I'm fairly certain it is not a driver issue.

When it's time to replace this laptop, the next one will not be a Dell.

New Inspiron 15-5000--DellWM524 Mouse will not be recognized.

The help screens are no help.

They refer to other models and the steps to recognize are not appropriate.

Have spent several hours trying to correct.

Ready to return mouse.

can anyone suggest a solution

Thanks
