Touchpad problem

I had a new Inspiron 3551 with major touchpad problems Dell tried to fix and finally replaced a few months ago,the new laptop touchpad is acting up now.Every day or two it will stop scrolling and the pointer will move real slowly across the screen I restart and it is usually fine but sometimes the pointer moves ok but still won't scroll until I go to the touchpad settings and the gestures is turned off so I turn it on and everything is fine but it was on before I restarted does any of this make sense ? I've tried the basic things like reinstalling the driver.

Dell xps 13 9343 loose trackpad / touchpad, can't get support!

There have been a few posts about this issue, and i've commented on most of them.  I'm just trying to figure out if ALL xps 13 (9343) have a loose trackpad that moves / clicks when you just touch it, not tap it?  A perfect example of what mine is doing is the same as this youtube video here: (Please visit the site to view this video)

I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get a replacement or get it repaired as I'm having a hard time getting a hold of anyone at dell.  I talked to tech support a couple of weeks ago and they told me I needed to send it in for replacement.  I called them back today and they said because it is new, I needed to contact sales and get an exchange.  I've tried doing this twice now, waiting for about 20 minutes, and then my call gets disconnected.  I'm wondering if it's worth going through the hassle or I should just return it.  So, anyone have this laptop who's trackpad is NOT loose?

After upgrading to W8.1 my Fn buttons stopped working

I have a XPS14 laptop.
despite of the constant insistence to upgrade to W 8.1 I did not wanted to do so.
One day the computer did it without me wanting.

Since then many Fn buttons don't work anymore. I cannot adjust brightness (you can see she scale bar going up and down) not even in energy configurations in control panel.
But the screen remains full blast bright (which hurts the eyes in dark ambiences)

I cannot use the Fn up/down volume, neither play/pause forward, backward, mute.

Strange enough turning on /off the keyboard light, and expel disc do work...

I have tried for months to fix it, have followed many recommendations in forums, none has solved my problem so far.

I have tried to reinstall the Quick Set driver but eh computer says I have e newer version and need to uninstall that one to reinstall. I feel very insecure about this procedure, especially because I don´t even know it it will really solve it or make things worse.

Need help with Unusual Problem with Dell E6510 laptop will not recognise AC Power Adapter

$

I have a Dell E6510 laptop, it is a very good laptop with 1600x900 LCD, and if I have a charged battery (charged in another laptop) and put in the laptop, the laptop runs fine, until the battery runs out.

If I plug in an AC adapter (I have tried a few), it is not recognised and it will not charge the battery, the battery light is not lit,

If I take out the battery and plug in the AC power adapter only, on booting the CPU fans starts fast and stops after 3 or so seconds, no display, no lights,

I can get it to run on the AC adapter only if I first remove the battery and disconnect the CMOS battery under the bottom cover to clear the BIOS settings, then reconnect.  On booting (without main battery) it will start, shutdown and then start again with screen saying time and date need to be set, I go into bios, then set time and date and set SATA to AHCI, then save and allow to reboot, the first boot it starts and then resets before anything is displayed and will then starts normally and loads windows.

I have updated the BIOS to the latest, it was at A05, now it is A16, using the /forceit option. this made no difference to the unusual operation.

When I get it to start and run its own bios diagnostics (F5), no errors are found.

Any thoughts on what could cause this odd operation?  It is not usable in this state.

I have pulled it completely apart 3 times now looking for issues on the motherboard, I have replaced the power jack to motherboard cable and connectors,  I have tried running it without any peripherals, HDD, DVD, BT, WLAN, etc, i have tried diffferent memory and different AC adapters and different batteries, so it would appear to be a motherboard issue???

Severe problem with my Insprion N5010

Hi,

I have a severe problem with my Dell laptop, it is an Insprion N5010.

Nearly everytime i use the laptop now, basically it eventually crashes and a blue screen error appears.

Is it a hardware problem?

I also seem to have a problem with the AMD screen display driver, where the screen goes black and comes back on saying the AMD screen display driver has stopped working. is this the same problem or another problem?

or is it a software problem? assume it is not a virus?

Hopefully the below is enough info for someone to suggest what the problem may be and for a solution to be offered.

I can try and get more details from the blue screen but it doesnt stay on long enough!

I could attach the dump file, which i think i have got.

i would be very grateful for any replies / suggestions?

XPS 15z, Win10, CPU Fan always on high

Just 'upgraded' my XPS 15z from Win7 to Win10.  Now the CPU fan runs at high speed constantly.  I ran a CPU temperature utility and it's running 70 to 80 C, which, my understanding, is not too hot.  Before Win10, the CPU fan only ran on high very occasionally.  Is this really too hot (70 to 80C)?  If not, how can I reset the CPU fan to a reasonable speed (noise)?

Can anyone tell me what colors indicate what? I am only able to get an orange color, but I can't find anything that tells me if this means a 10 MB, 100 MB or 1 GB connection. Is there even a green LED color?

Thanks,

Jim

E6500 keyboard backlight failed

I've got an old E6500 laptop and the keyboard backlight stopped working several weeks ago. I've reseated the keyboard several times and that didn't help. I also checked the BIOS settings, backlighting is enabled. The keyboard works; I can type just fine. It's just the backlight doesn't work anymore.

Any ideas?

TIA!

Dell XPS 13 (9343) Severe Sleep Issues

$

I have a Dell XPS 13, early 2015 model, which has been having issues with going to sleep or sometimes waking up from sleep.

The issue is encountered when I will close the lid to put the computer but instead it will keep ON and drain the battery. The computer will need to be hard rebooted by holding down the power key after the battery has been charged. All of the data that was open or unsaved on the computer before will be lost.

Sometimes the laptop would go to sleep fine but when the lid is opened the screen's backlight will come on but nothing will be displayed on the screen. The computer won't respond to any commands beside holding down the power key to hard reboot. Again, any data that was open or unsaved on the computer will be lost.

I have tried making a habit of putting the computer to sleep by pressing the power button before shutting the lid but it will still somehow end up waking itself and draining the battery or it won't respond when the lid is opened requiring a hard reboot and therefore I lose all my open files.

I am running Windows 10 with all the drivers and BIOS updated to the latest version.

This issue also occurred in Windows 8 before I upgraded so I am wondering if it is hardware issue?

Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

Is shutting down the laptop instead of putting it to sleep only other solution?

I am deeply disappointed in such a severe bug in a premium device like the XPS.

Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting

I just recently got a Dell Inspiron 3543. Running Windows 8.1 After I got it it ran a number of WIndows updates and then an update of BIOS as well.

In the beginning my internet connection kept disconnecting every few hours but gradually increased in frequency to about every 30 minutes. I do client calls via my computer on Skype or through Zoom and keep disconnecting!

It is not my ISP. I have two other computers in the house with Windows 7 and they stay connected just fine, this seems to be a Windows 8.1 issue.

Below is a list of what I have done thus far and am still having the same issue. At the moment in Chrome I keep getting the error “DNS probe started” followed by “DNS Probe Finished No Internet” and I have to keep going into command and typing ipconfig/flushdns.

A Google search indicated Mcafee was responsible so I uninstalled that.

I moved the computer to right next to the wireless router.

Made sure the wireless switch was on.

Troubleshooted for problems with Windows.

Turned off and on all the devices on the network to synchronise them.

Made sure the latest driver is installed

Made sure the correct network name and network key were used to create my profile.

Configured the wireless adapter settings for optimal performance >> AP Compatibility Mode, selected Broader Compatibility. Minimum Power Consumption is now Disabled.

Disconnected the power from the modem and left the modem disconnected for at least 3 minutes.

Shut down all the computers that are connected to the network.

Yet another Google search suggested disable Bluetooth. Restarted computer.

Still getting disconnected.

CMOS battery

Few days ago, I heard a beeping sound with black screen when I booted my Dell laptop Alienware M17XR4. So, I forced to shut down the laptop and rebooted. After I booted my laptop, I noticed that my laptop calendar and time on right bottom corner got reset to factory condition which was "12:00 AM 1/1/2015". From then, the beeping sound and the black screen kept showing whenever I tried to turn on the laptop. So I had to force to shut down and reboot whenever I tried to turn on the laptop. I thought my CMOS battery died so replaced with new one. After I changed the CMOS battery, I do not see any problem to boot the computer and heard neither beeping sound nor black screen. However, the calendar and the time still got reset whenever I turn on the laptop even though I changed it to current date and time in BIOS and synchronized with Internet time server. I tried it about 10 times, but it got reset every time. So please help me.

Thank you.

L501X unexpected shutdowns, Video memory test failed

Hello, I have the following problems with my Dell XPS 15 L501X laptop:

- When watching live streams it unexpectedly shuts down (temperature is 70C / 158F max)

- When playing games in low settings (e.g. League of Legends) the display driver frequently stops working and recovers

- Shutdown while performing Dell diagnostics (again, temp doesn't reach 80C, unless its a sudden heat spike in which case i cant tell)

Things I've tried:

- Reformatting the OS

- System restore to a previous point

- Updating drivers

- Replaced thermal paste and cleaned the vents and fan

- Bought a cooling pad

- Battery is always removed and plugged to AC. I replaced the AC last year and I can guarantee its working correctly.

Bellow I'm adding the system specs and test results:
