Hey Everyone,

I have an Inspiron 17R N7110 laptop.  I am not able to use the bluetooth.  When I go into the Device manager and choose view hidden devices the Bluetooth Server shows a triangle with exclamation point in it and when I try to update drivers it says they are up to date.  I can't seem to figure out what to do to fix the issue.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

XPS 9343 Microphone Quality Issues

I have a 9343 which is impressive for the most part, but the recording quality is absolutely horrid. I am wondering if this is just my device or if others are experiencing the same issue?

Using the built in microphone, I have played with the recording level settings to try to get anything usable, but it is either too quiet, or too jarbled to be useful. I have a cheap $100 laptop that sounds easily a hundred times better.

Does anyone else have this problem? I can't imagine, since this makes the laptop not usable for Skype, VOIP or communication while gaming.

Installed Windows 10, and lost my lighted key board.

Inspiron 14z N411z very slow, suspect hardware problem

My daughter's Inspiron 14z N411z is running very slowly. The first suspect was some sort of driver / software issue, but I couldn't find anything. After rebooting into safe mode I was able to back up all the data and perform a system restore from the factory saved image. To give you some idea of how slowly the machine is running, the restore took seven - count 'em - seven hours, but it finally started up with a brand new restore. It still runs very slowly with the fresh restore, like 10 minutes from start to desktop. All performance indicators in Task Manager seem normal, no excessive CPU usage, no extra disk I/O, nothing unusual. There are no hardware or software additions to the fresh restore.

Any suggestions?

Inspiron 14z N411z is very slow

My daughter's Inspiron 14z N411z is very slow. I managed to get it started in Safe Mode and backup her data. It was running too slowly to do much diagnosis, so I restored it from the original factory OS backup. It took SEVEN hours for the factory backup to install, but it finally did. The machine is still too slow to use, with 10 minutes between pushing the on button and seeing the desktop. There are no new hardware pieces and the OS is the factory restore with nothing else added. I can't see and unusual disk I/O or CPU usage in Task Manager and it seems to run OK, just in slow motion.

Any suggestions?

Notebook choice

Hi everyone,

I know that my post sounds a little bit strange but I'm confused with the information so far. So, what is the problem. I decided to buy a new notebook because my Inspiron 15 is already 6 years old. From what I see Inspiron and Latitude should do the job but when I spoke with Dell Support, they said that in general Latitude and Inspiron don't support virtual machines and I'd like to install some software like VirtualBox, VMPlayer or VMworkstation when I want to test something.

In general I would like to have:

CPU: i5 or i7

RAM: 8 GB (with option to upgrade to 16 GB)

HDD: 256 SSD or standard 500 GB (the price of SSD drives is now not so expensive)

Video: I think Nvidia 830 with 2 GB is enough

Resolution: 1920x1080

Why I'm writing this. The problem is that when I used the Dell to customize model there is no option to see how many ports are available for the RAM but in some online shops most of Latitude models are shown only with 1 slot. Also one of the problem is that I am in Germany and when I use Dell.de, I could select only Windows in German which I don't want to use. And of course the support for virtualization. I don't want to be in situation to have a proper CPU but the mainboard not to support it or opposite.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

P.S.

And guys, a price up to 1200-1300 Euro should be sufficient :)

Keyboard Backlight

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1500 5000 Series laptop, Windows 10.

I would like to toggle my backlight keyboard. I see it on my keyboard, and in the Windows Mobility Center, but I would like to increase the duration. Currently, my keyboard stays lit for 60 seconds. I would like it to not turn off at all.

Can I turn off the backlight timer? Can I chose to keep it on for more than 60 seconds?

Thank you so much.

Hi ,

I was attempting to contact Dell Technical Support but I am unable to do so because I get the following message:

""We are unable to verify the service attached to the Service Tag or Express Service Code you have entered. Please verify your entry. If you recently purchased a system, please try again in 48 hours or contact us by phone."

How do I get it verified?

Dell Inspiron N5040 battery drains faster after Windows 10 update

Following the operating system update from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, the battery life on my Inspiron has degraded significantly.  I want to say that the battery drains about 5 times faster than what I experienced compared to windows 8.1.  I notice that my laptop runs hotter and the fan runs at high speed more often.  What can be done to resolve this, if anything?

HDD Encryption in Dell XPS 15 9530

$

I just installed a Samsung 850 EVO SSD in my laptop, a Dell XPS 15 9530 running Windows 10. The Samsung SSD is hardware encrypted, and when I use the Samsung Magician software it tells me that there are multiple ways to lock down the rive, including setting an HDD password in BIOS and Bitlocker. Can someone give me some advice on the best way to lock down the drive and insure that it uses the hardware encryption (and doesn't reduce performance by using software encryption)?

It looks like using a TPM is the best option - is there an easy way to tell if my system has a tpm (it doesn't show up in Windows, but the BIOS has an enable tpm option that I haven't messed with yet)? If you use this option, is there a preferred way to set it up in BIOS and to insure the ability to recover in case of tpm failure?

I also understand that bitlocker can use hardware encryption, but some sources (including Samsungs software) seem to indicate that you need to format the drive and reinstall the OS. Of course, the laptop didn't come with CDs or anything to do the install from that I am aware of...

Thanks!.

Alternative Fan replacement for Inspiron 1525 Laptop

I had broken the socket on the M/B on my 1525. I did not want to buy a M/B. My solution as opposed to buying Dell's phased fan. I bought a fan from Amazon. All you need to do is take the existing fan out of the fram/casing of laptop .You can cut an area between two of the support spars, but not too much. Make sure you clip away the steel standups on the bottom metal plate of the computer frame. Just slide the box fan into the Dell frame tih opening you cut towards the back of computer. Attach with a cpl drops of expoxy. I used the 5 vdc off a usb port to run the fan and it runs continuous. Below is a picture of the Dell type fan, but take the guts out. Be genle and just punch out the shaft from the armature. It works beautiful and I never have an overheating problem. I just plugged the 5vdc nto one of the outside USB ports, but the source can also be reached from the inside. This is an old computer and my wife uses it and lays it on her leg  while using it and it does not overheat !!!

This is just an exampe f the original fan. On my computer there are little screws which allow one o just unscrew , take off top, take out fan parts, insert new box fan wit air blowing down, clip small metal anti statis nibs off and you are set. Cheap,Cheap. If you have any questions, write me There are ony two wires on box fan red/black and red is +.

new wireless cards for our dell laptops

$

Hi,

We have a Dell Studio 1558 running Windows 7 and a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520/5522 running Windows 8. Both of these laptops speed test very slow on our home WiFi, compared to the throughput we get on newer devices like our phones, as well as that shown by official testing done by Xfinity.

If possible we would like to install new wireless cards that will support 100mbps as well as cards that have a 2.4 and 5.0 Gigahertz setting. Of course we want these cards to have available drivers for the above two machines.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
