Then after installing a wwan card do I need to install a sim card?

A very satisfied customer.....

Evening, all.

Having just recently joined the Forums, I wanted to let y'all know how satisfied I've been with Dell computers in general.....and one older model in particular.

I started with an Inspiron 1100 laptop, back in 2003. It's been heavily modified over the years; Celeron 2.2 GHz>Pentium 4 2.6 GHz, 128 MB RAM>2 GB RAM, and from a 20 GB Hitachi Travelstar, she's now running a 32 GB KingSpec PATA/IDE 2.5" SSD. Totally transformed by the last 2 items! And the battery pack was replaced by a high-capacity, 7650 mAH item about 3 years ago.

From the original Win XP install, she's now running 'Puppy' Linux. With the current set-up, she runs like greased lightening. 'Puppy' seems to suit this particular model, allowing the admittedly limited specs to perform to their full potential.....and despite being over 12 years old, she still performs perfectly. These old lappies were built like a brick outhouse; no screen or lid flex at all. Even the original power 'brick' is still behaving itself, and will recharge the high-capacity battery pack from 10% up to full capacity in just over an hour. And I have nothing but praise for the keyboard; despite seeming flimsy when you disassemble her, it's got to be the best one I've ever used.

I like working inside this old girl. In those days, laptops were quite a bit 'chunkier' than they are now.....but the flipside to this is that when maintenance is called for, there is so much more space to work in. Rather different to modern practice, where everything is packed in tight, like sardines in a can!

Very impressive..! Just goes to show, they 'don't make 'em like they used to....'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm thinking of uprating the SSD to a 64 GB KingSpec.....but I don't know for sure whether the motherboard would support this high a capacity. I knew I should be safe with the 32 GB, as the 1100 was originally available with either 20 GB, 30 GB or 40 GB HDD's. Mind you, everybody told me the same thing about trying to install 2 GB of RAM. 'Won't work', they said. 'Doesn't support that much'. Well, I've got the proof right here..... I don't know whether upgrading to the newest BIOS available (A22>A32) has changed matters, as far as that goes?

A 64 GB SSD might be pushing it a wee bit, though. Anybody got any thoughts on this one?

Regards,

Mike. [;)]

Alienware Issue Please Help

Hi,

I ordered an Alienware laptop on 04/09/2015 and Im having issues with it.

I try typing on the keyboard and my fingers go straight through and hit the desk.

When I look at the screen I seem to be able to see straight through it.

When I plug the power adapter into the wall socket and turn it on nothing happens.

Am I going crazy? or could it just be the fact that my order has been sitting in china for 25 F%!$ing days still awaiting production.

Sincerely,

Another Person that shouldve listened when people told me to avoid Alienware

Trackpad: two-finger scroll broken

Hello,

I bought a dell Inspiron 14 3451 yesterday as my first computer.

After some use I noticed that I couldn't scroll anymore. I tried scrolling with two fingers as I had been moments before but my cursor would just move around the screen without effect or freeze altogether and not work again without restarting my pc.

I searched for solutions online and  the only one was to update the trackpad driver, so I did on the computer although the computer is only hours old. After restarting this seemed to fix it until a few minutes later when the problem occurred again.

I'm pretty desperate for a quick fix or for someone to tell me right away if it needs to be replaced before I move out of country next week.

I appreciate any help.

Solid state drive 512 GB on a XPS 13

Hi everybody,

I’m currently using an XPS 13 Ultrabook which solid drive has more or less 125 GB. It’s clearly not doing it for me nowadays and I heard that the newer Dell Ultrabooks came with a 512 GB solid drive.

So here are my questions :

1)      Can I change my 125 GB solid drive for this 512 GB?

2)      If I can, where can I buy it and which are the actual specifications? (I mean, something I can say to the salesman regarding model etcetera in order to get this solid drive compatible with my XPS 13 and not another one)

3)      Will it slow down my ultrabook?

Thanks a lot

D620 - Intel 3945ABG won't connect after win 10 upgrade

The Intel 3945ABG card in my D620 won't connect to any AP after boot until I perform a "Diagnose" in the Network and Sharing Centre. This problem has only happened since the OS was upgraded from 7 to 10.

Device Manager reports the driver as Version13.4.0.139. I tried to install the V15 driver from the Intel site, as recommended by Phillip Yip but it doesn't seem to install, no error message but the version number doesn't change.

I have another D620 with similar hardware and nearly identical software load that performs perfectly.

Any ideas for a fix? Or, perhaps a script to run the Diagnose routine at boot time!

Hardware Issues and Support

Hi,

I bought my Dell laptop 2 weeks back.  Since then, I am facing issues with performance.

MY hardware config is:

I5

8GB Ram

1 TB HDD

Nvidia GE force 4GB

OS: WIndows 8.1

The problem:

Hardware freezes for some time without any message.  Keyboard or mouse stops the function.  There are couple of times where the screen was cluttered with several colors and the system froze for few seconds.  Then the screen cleared and the keyboard and mouse froze and I need to hard boot the machine.

I checked up Microsoft and they asked me to check with Dell since there could be problem with drivers.

I ran diagnosis tests from Dell several times, but it is not showing any problems.

I do not how to contact Dell online.  I am not sure whether there is a support available with Dell even though my vendor told me Dell provides support.

Please guide me to resolve the issue.

Bluetooth mouse on dual boot Win7/Win10 system

This is a new XPS13 9343. I have set it up to dualboot windows 7 and 10. But I am having to re-pair my Dell travel mouse every time I switch from one OS to the other which is really annoying.

According to a number of posts elsewhere, usually concerned with dual boot Win/Ubuntu, I need to find the encryption key in Win 7. Then I would presumably have to get it into the Win 10 registry.

I have found what I understand to be the key entry in

HKey local machine/ current control set/ services/BTHPort/Parameters/keys.

But I cannot open it, even though my username is supposedly the administrator one. I have also no idea yet whether the key, if I am able to extract it, also exists in Win10, and whether i will be able to insert it.

Any ideas about a solution please?

EDIT: Actually, I've realised the simple answer to this. Stop faffing about with bluetooth and registry entries and just buy one of the wireless mice that uses a little dongle rather than bluetooth.  Got a Logitetch one from Ebay...Uses up a precious usb port but that can't be helped..

How to Clone Inspiron 15R SE 7520 drive.

The HDD on this machine has errors. I bought another identical one, but I am not sure what to do with the SSD portion.

When I put the new drive in, after cloning the old, the RAID menu came up but only gave me two options: Reset and exit.

Do I clone the SSD portion? Do I reset it - erasing all its data when installing the new drive? What is the SSD doing? Does it have data or it is just a cache for performance?

Thanks,

New XPS 13 UltraBook - Won't Wake from Sleep

$

Hi there!

I have a Dell XPS 13 ultrabook that I love, apart from one major issue. I can't get it to wake from sleep using the keyboard or mouse. I have never experienced this with a laptop before.  This is a fairly major issue, as I use the XPS 13 docked with the D3100 dock, and connected to an external monitor, keyboard and mouse.  I keep the laptop closed with the screen off, and just use the external setup  - as you usually do when docked. All is well and good until the unit goes to sleep. If the computer is still on but just the external monitor is off due to power settings, then moving the mouse/hitting the keyboard wakes the monitor back up. However, if the whole computer is asleep (NOT hibernate), nothing happens when I move the mouse or repeatedly hit the keyboard. I have to pull the ultrabook out of the cubby it is in, open it up, hit the power button, then close it and put it back. This gets the computer to power up again, but is incredibly inconvenient. As a side effect of this, all my windows get resized and my icons moved around the desktop because the latop temporarily switches to the built-in screen (which is at a lower res than my external monitor) before switching back to the external monitor. I have had Latitude laptops for years with no problems, and was disappointed to experience this. I am really hoping there is some kind of fix.

So far I have tried:

1. Plugging the Wireless keyboard/mouse receiver into all USB ports on both the ultrabook itself and also the D3100 dock. No difference is made.

2. Trying with a wired and wireless keyboard. No difference is made.

3 Attempting to pull up power management settings for the mouse/keyboard in the device management and ensure 'Allow device to wake computer' is checked. Not possible as now 'Power Management' tab appears available in Windows 10 on the device properties window.

Please help!

Laptop will not boot, strange behavior

Hi,

Having a strange issue with my Dell n7110 laptop. What it does keeps changing so I'd like to narrow it down before I go poking around inside.

It started off that when ypu pressed the power button nothing happened for a couple seconds then the cooling fan came on at full speed and nothing else, no post, no screen lighting up, no lights.

But now it sometimes tries to boot and sometimes not, it will click on and the lights will start to blink and then it will click off, sometimes it will actually start and go to the choose how you want to start windows screen and then click off. Once it actually made it to starting windows boot but then clicked off. It seems to be completely random what it does.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Allied electronics, PWR+, Amazon, Fry's electronics and on and on. No one lists applicability for Inspiron 15 5558 use for a right angle power adapter. The straight one is susceptible to stress and breakage when placing the laptop on your lap. Any help? Someone?
