I recently updated my windows 8.1 with the recommended updates by windows, and after it was done my computer does not boot, it just stucks at the black screen with a dell logo.
Sometimes it also gives a blue bar which goes until the end but nothing happens.
I can get into BIOS sometimes.

Hello. I just received a phone call from "Unavailable" who referred to himself as "Dell Customer Support". He had me run event viewer and showed me 17,000 warnings and error messages (going back to 2014). He suggested I had a virus. He wanted to take control of the computer. I asked him how I knew he was from Dell, and he gave me my own service tag number. He then escalated to "Brandon", a supervisor. Brandon took control of my computer and started to download stuff. He moved fast. I asked for his number and called him back. His number was 877-542-2987. He said his Dell employee ID was 0885. I called him back, got him. He then tried to download stuff my virus scanner did not like. THen he said I needed to buy a security package for $300. I hung up and did a manual shutdown of the machine.
Is this a scam? I'll be calling Dell later today to try to get their *** off my computer. They ran a program called www.delltech.tk. I'm sure this was a virus installer.
I just wanted to get this up here so as few other people are scammed as possible.

My Inspiron 17r will not start. When I press the power button, the fan comes on and lights flash but screen remains black.
I have tried the screen diagnostic by pressing the 'D' along with the power button. Screen flashes through the colours and appears to be working.
Any ideas?
Hey guys, got an Inspiron 5558, Windows 10, with USB 3.0 all around as well as the Dell USB 3.0 dock.
My problem arises from a MIDI keyboard (Edirol PCR-800) -- as stated on the manufacturer's website, the device will not function under USB 3.0. I find this odd, but I'm certain there is a way or some available drivers or something to slow down the hub?
I'll focus on the ports on the laptop itself, leaving the external dock at full speed (obviously), but I'd really like to configure a single USB port on the side of my laptop to work at lower speed.
How can I do this? (.inf file? external 2.0 dock? Ideas?!!)

(PS: all my devices are 2.0, yet all my other gear works. Due to jitter in ultra high speed serial signals and the time critical nature of music, I'd get the best precision aa the lowest possible rate.)
Hello. I have a E7450 that I can't get the WiFi radio to turn on. I believe the issue lies in the O.S. When I open Intel wireless connection utility, it shows that Hardware radio switch: OFF. Here's what I've tried so far:
Windows "sees" wireless networks and I can right click and choose connect, but it doesn't do anything.
Any other suggestions while I'm mulling it over?

I need to boot my laptop from CD/DVD.
As there is no optical drive option provided within UEFI, I followed :-
I expected the path of the DVD drive to be presented in a drop down menu, however only paths for the HDD were presented.
Looking through Device Manager it's not obvious how to find a device path similar to that presented for the HDD, but for the optical drive.
Does anyone know how I can boot from CD/DVD drive in UEFI mode ?

I just bought a used 2 - 3 year old XPS 13 with Win 8. Trackpad/cursor worked fine until there was a Windows Update that included trackpad update. When I rebooted from the update, there is no cursor and the trackpad doesn't work. I can only use the keyboard. Tried Fn 5, adding a new user and trackpad additional settings. Can't change the additional settings with just the keyboard. Any ideas?

Brand new (1 wk old) XPS 15, equipped with 32gb SSD and 1tb HDD. Preparing to do two things:
a) swap 1tb HDD with 1tb SSD; continue to use this as boot drive
b) swap 32gb SSD with 500gb SSD - to use only for data storage
Windows 10 upgrade no problem. Programs installed to HDD (Photoshop, etc; Office; many others).
Cloned 1tb HDD to the 1tb SSD; no problems there; SSD standing by for install.
Then in reading up further in forums - regarding the 32gb SSD found copious forum notes that its function is for Intel Rapid Start, and that I need to disable that in BIOS.
Regarding swapping the HDD for the SSD, found forum notes that SATA mode must be changed to AHCI for the new 1tb SSD to work.
So, booted up to BIOS screen and changed 2 settings:
a) SATA changed to AHCI
b) Intel Rapid Start disabled
On reboot, got the "Inaccessible Boot Device" error and computer tried to reboot. Failed to reboot, so after manually shutting off and turning the laptop back on, managed to get to a repair screen and selected option to get back to my BIOS settings; changed both of the above back to their defaults. Computer now boots up normally.
However I am not certain how to proceed to swap out both drives now without perhaps getting this error again.
Can I change out the 1tb HDD for its 1tb SSD clone without changing SATA to AHCI?
Can I change out the 32gb SSD for a 500gb SSD without disabling Intel Rapid Start?
If "yes" to both of these questions, and assuming I can swap in and boot up the 1tb SSD, do I then need to go back into BIOS to make these changes once both drives are replaced, without getting "inaccessible boot device" error screen?
Are there any other BIOS changes are necessary to use the new SSD's in the manner first described? (that is with the swapped in 500gb msata as a data drive only (not as Intel Rapid Start) and the swapped in 1tb SSD as my OS drive)

I have as of August 31st made an online order for several accessories i.e. batteries etc. Till now I have not receive my items nor do I have an indication when it will be deliver to us. I called Dell Singapore and was being transferred to Dell Malaysia. I was told that my online purchase was wrongly downloaded by the department. If I have not called it will be sitting there without any action taken. Eventually I managed to talk to the right person and I requested that my order be expediated due to the long due and he assure me that it will be done asap. Well, till now I still don't have my items. The money already deducted from my credit card yet I don't have my products. I would appreciate to contact the manager in charge have this settled ASAP. today i just restored my laptop inspirion N5010 bios to default factory setting! And you know what happnes???????? after restarting laptop it prompts for a bios password!!
The funny thing is that I never had set any password for bios so what i should to do? i cant call to dell support because i am from iran.. is that the price i should pay for trusting to del products?

I have a problem with my Dell's 3542 wifi.
I'm on Windows 10 core edition after updating from 8.1.
In Device Manager the wifi card is being recognized as a Broadcom card (the driver is being automatically updated from windows update).
The wifi driver for Windows 10 in dell drivers webpage doesn't work.
Is anything I can do ?
I have a very strange system crash occurring when the display has turned off, and I move the mouse to wake it back up.
I have an Alienware 15 running Windows 8.1, connected to an external LCD monitor, with an external keyboard and a wireless mouse (both Logitech). Sound card is an SB Recon 3Di. The lock up seems to happen when I have music streaming through a web browser, like from Google Play. The display turns off after 10 minutes or so. If I move the external mouse to wake up the screen, sometimes the sound will stutter and then stop completely after a few seconds, and the computer is locked up. I have to do a hard shutdown and restart of the computer.
Anyone else experienced anything like this?
