battery failure

I use a Dell Inspiron 7520. Around 2 weeks back, the battery started draining from 59% to nearly zero in a second.  3 days back I got the message that battery has experienced permanent failure. I replaced the battery with a dell battery with slightly different specifications. It had the same voltage but was 60 Wh instead of 45 Wh.

The events on battery replacement were as follows:

I. it refused to power up without ac power.

2. when ac power was used it would first flash this message on dark screen:" Battery experienced permanent failure. Use F2 to go to Bios and F1 to continue."

3. On using F1 the laptop boots normally and shows the new battery strength at 71% - NOT CHARGING.

In other words, the battery is being detected, but is not accepting charge. Nor is it able to power the system.

I might add that I have recently upgraded to windows 10. Please advise me what I should do.

down arrow key doesn't work

Hi, I use a Dell Inspiron 7520 laptop. Ever since the upgrades to windows 8.1 began my down arrow key doesn't work. The hardware to the key is fully functional and has been tested. Some software bug is preventing the down arrow key from working. An additional irritant is that the entire screen scrolls to the bottom whether I am in a word document or on the internet. On rebooting the scrolling problem goes away - the down arrow key does not however work. I recently upgraded to windows 10 hoping the problem would go away but it did not.

Would be most grateful for any help.

Alienware M14x Wired Ethernet Adapter missing - Windows 10

When I came home tonight and powered on my laptop, a strange thing happened.  I had no network.  I did this morning before I went to work, but not this evening!

I checked the adapter in device manager and The internal wired Ethernet adapter (Killer NIC) disappeared.  I enabled 'show hidden devices' and the adapter was grayed out and not activated.

After attempting to search for updated drivers, turning the adapter off and on in the bios and performing a system restore, nothing worked.  I tried to reinstall the card in device manager by removing it and scanning for hardware changes, and nothing happened.  It's as if the card disappeared completely.

I'm not sure what happened, but any assistance you could offer would be much appreciated.

Operating System not found and BIOS isn't accessible

I have a Dell Inspiron 14r 5420 came with windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 and didn't like it and wanted to revert back to Windows 8. I tried resetting it but Windows 10 is installed again. Then I used Dell backup and recovery software to build a recovery media on USB flash drive and it contained actual factory media stuff. When I tried installing from this media it didn't booted from it and accidentally I formatted the whole Hard drive. It shows the message "An Operating system not found" with some more information of restarting the system.

Now when I try to boot from USB nothing happens. I keep pressing F12 to go in boot options but it doesn't work. Also I tried going in the BIOS menu by pressing F2 and still nothing happens.

The only message that I get is "Operating system not found."

DELL 3521 Possibile Assembly Error

Hey Forum Users,

if this question has been asked before sorry, but bare with me here.

I purchased my machine through BEST BUY, as an "open box" item which honestly ought to have been categorized as Pre-owned, seeing that there were previous owners or inspected & refurbished prior to resale.  In any case, the device was returned with a memo stating it had a broken pixel.  A singular "bad" pixel.  I assuming I was protected by purchasing through a retail with a decent return policy & the product was manufcatered by a company I've grown to trust having owned only DELL laptops my whole life, I figured it would be OK.

And for a little while it was.  Until the right hinge on the display started grinding or getting caught on Something, there was tension every time I opened the lid and audible clicking when the plastic hinge cover met the palmrest cover.  This was the first issue, occurring after the 14 day return period, but still within the warranty period (starting from the date of the original purchase 2013).  The cover eventually fell off entirely, and me not wanting to damage the laptop by improperly reseating it or continued friction left it alone.  After a while the display still illuminated but only showed gray black and white colored lines, but using an HDMI to external monitor I could get a clear picture only bothersome when needing to be in the BOOT menu or restarting the machine.  I got in contact with DELL Tech support.  The woman helped me troubleshoot the device, came up with error codes,& she diagnosed the computer as having a hardware issue, a HDD needed to be replaced and I would have to do so remotely.   She sent the replacement HDD but in that time my warranty had run out.  I wasn't sure what to do for a long time, too timid to even open the battery door.  So the laptop became a dysfunctional desktop for a while.  Then I started watching the disassembly videos and got the guts to start fixing my own problems.  First thing I noticed was that the display cable was contorted in a way that seemed to suggest it was being stretched, explaining the resisifance I felt while opening the lid.  I continued disasssemdbly and noticed the DVD tray was very difficult to slide out on one side more than the other, suggesting it was being bent.  It was most difficult near the 3.0 usb.  I saw that the display chip was being forced uoward away from its seated position, indicating the dvd tray was forcing the display card away from the mother board putting stress after the USB 3.0 failed to counter the weight; the 3M sticky backed USB 3.0 wasn't properly applied during assmebly.  There was nothing holding the rest of the connected pieces from pulling at the display chip because of this error.  Every time I opened the lid the parts intended to be stationary flexed.  My warranty is expired, but this is clearly an issue not caused on a consumer level, this was a problem that occurred during Assembly of parts as well as inspection.   What do I do? I can't afford a new machine, I can't afford to buy a new motherboard.

i recently brought dell Inspiron 14 7447 and it comes up as one of two problems what to do?

Latitude E6530 CMOS Battery

Hi all

The internal CMOS battery in my laptop (Latitude E6530) seems to be dead. Sometimes the BIOS forgets all of its settings.

This laptop is still under warranty. Is it worth contacting Dell to change this battery or can I easily change it myself? If so, is it the CR-2032 button cell?

Dell inspiron 13 7000 - 7348 Touchpad issues / driver request

$

Since about a week I am the proud owner of an inspiron 13 7000 (it's the top model, the 7348 with i7 and SSD). I really like this machine, except for one very important thing: the touchpad.

The touchpad is very sensitive. Sometimes it's hard to get it (and keep it) where I want it to be. But the worst thing is the 'tap to click'. It's even more sensitive, resulting in a lot of unwanted clicks while moving the mouse.

Both of these issues can not be solved by using the Windows 8 touchpad settings. Normally, this would easily be solved by changing some settings in the touchpad driver software. The problem is, there is no dedicated touchpad driver for this laptop. How is this even possible?

I contacted tech support, but they only directed me towards the Windows 8 touchpad settings. I have a feeling there is no driver available at all, and that there might not be one in the future.

I've noticed that there are a lot of people having issues with the touchpad and they too are unable to solve them. For example, check out this topic about the 7347 touchpad:

I hope someone over at Dell reads this and can provide us with a solution. It really is unacceptable for a laptop with this price tag.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Dell Inspiron 13z Touch + Win 10 - Slow Running

Hi,

I recently bought the Dell Inspiron 13z Touch with installed Win 8.1. I decided to upgrade to the Win 10. So I did. Now, whenever I start the Windows and start to work, everything seems to be taking too long time to load, when viewing videos it's lagging, sound is noising. When I check the CPU and Memory usage in the Task Manager, they are low (CPU ~ 3%, RAM ~ 28%). I did all updates of Windows, Dell also. I also disabled the all non-windows default services on the start up to determine the issue. No luck. What else it could be? Can anyone help? Thanks.

error 0x80042302 in recovery, inability to connect to the internet, audio unusable, toolbar and windows style windows '98, inability to change settings and use boot recovery at the starting

I state that I have a Dell Inspiron N7010 with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Yesterday I followed a guide microsoft to speed up your PC, precisely this windows.microsoft.com/.../speed-up-your-pc, in particular I run disk cleanup and uninstall old and unused programs including an antivirus downloaded on the same day (avira antivirus free) as the previous one did not satisfy me most (advanced system care free). To complete the uninstall I was asked to restart. when it estarted, displaying aero style windows and taskbar was no longer present and even be set using the theme customization. In addition, the audio is not working and you can not connect to the Internet. Any attempt to change settings through the control panel seems compartment. Specifically settings and system files restore because of an unexpected failure of a component of the Volume Shadow Copy Service (0x80042302). I sought clarification of this error on the internet and the only solution seems to access the recovery when windows starts and proceed to recover using this procedure. However when I press F12 at the starting to open the recovery boot, the computer seems to stop and remains so until you press Esc.
I have no idea what happened and what to do. I need a hand

Dell Inspiron 630m UPGRADE.

Hope I am posting this in the correct section.

I have received the above model laptop which originally had Windows XP system.  It has been changed to Windows 7 by a local IT firm.  I find it is running slowly and freezing, and is much slower than my Dell Inspiron 1545 which runs Vista.

Searching the internet I gather I need to upgrade the memory by installing a :2GB kit DDR2 PC2-5300.  I thought the best place to find out would be here on the Dell Community Forums.  Is that the correct memory module for this machine, and if so, I am led to believe that it will make the laptop perform much faster.

Hoping someone can clarify matters for me.  Thanks.

I recently added more memory and upgraded from win7 32bit to win7 64bit on my Vostro 1720 laptop and when I tried the windows update function it doesn't find any updates and just continues to say that it's finding updates. I have run the Microsoft diagnostics  and tried all the solutions offered but still no joy. Has anyone else come across this ?
