Creating bootable recovery USB from ISOs

I bought XPS 15 L502X almost 4 years ago. It had 500 GB HDD. So I burnt 2 Dell Recovery DVDs. Also created ISOs from them. I have both DVDs and ISOs. Then to free up the space I deleted its recovery partition. That saved me some 8 to 10 GBs. For last couple of years I am running Ubuntu. Now that Windows 10 is free upgrade, I am thinking to install original Windows 7 from recovery disks. However my old DVD reader on my laptop is not functioning properly. So am not able to use those recovery DVDs. Now what I have left is ISOs. Can  I burn two recovery ISOs to bootable USB? Or is there any other way to get my old factory Windows 7 back ?

Dell XPS 15 4k 9530 Touchpad dead zone

Good morning,

I bought the latest Dell XPS 15, the 4k touch model 9530, and it was delivered 2 days ago.

Since the first boot, I noticed a really strange behavior of the touchpad and I'm now trying to understand if it's an hardware defect or a software/firmware one. I already installed latest BIOS and touchpad drivers.

There is a dead and almost unresponsive zone in the plain middle of the touchpad (right above the grey line between the 2 buttons). It's small but, being in the middle, it makes the touchpad unusable except if you put more surface of the finger on it. Let's say that I have to keep the fingers horizontally. The fingertip, like I'm used to do on Mac, is not enough.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem?

Thank you

Dell Latitude E5430 BIOS Corrupted

Yesterday, I removed some entries from UEFI boot stack from BIOS. After that, my laptop is unable to boot. It struck at Dell Boot Logo. It neither goes into pre-boot assessment nor into BIOS or One time Boot Option. I think the BIOS is corrupted. Tell me how to reflash/reinstall BIOS.

Dell Latitude D820

Hi! This is my first post here.

I have found this D820 in a dumpster (literally it was sitting ringht on top of the bin so I took it, was just a dumb find as I was taking out the garbage, I do not dumpseter-dive) and it has some obvious problems. The LCD was cracked and the keyboard was messed up (had missing keys and was either very dirty or had some waterdamage). Either way, I plugged an external monitor to it and plugged another Dell power adapter (a 90W model from my XPS M1530) I had lying around since the battery is either dead or in a deep discharge state. I tried powering the machine up, but besides the power LED turning on for a couple of seconds, nothing happened. Could it be the motherboard or shall I first try replacing the LCD and keyboard? Please don't go "its not worth it" because I can always buy SH parts.

I am quite tech-savvy, I already took it apart to check it for further damage on the motherboard and other components. Nothing appears to be wrong, the labels on some of the parts do not appear to have sustained any heat-damage. The whole machine only appears to be a bit dusty, but I dealt with that. It has all the original labels on it  so it wouldn't be a problem to type in the service tag, if needed.

BIOS Legacy Boot Priority settings won't respond to attempted changes.

My BIOS is version A16 and the Laptop is Inspiron 7720.
When I go to the Boot Priority section of the BIOS settings it shows that "Legacy Boot" is enabled.
Following the on screen instruction I use the Down Arrow to select from the list:
"+USB Storage Device"
I then attempt to move this list option to the top of the list using the "+ / -" keys.
There is no response. The item does not move up in the list.
Quite regularly I boot into Ubuntu from an external USB drive.
I can press "F12" at startup and choose to boot from the "+USB Storage Device" there.
The ability to press "F12" passes really fast though and the opportunity is often missed,
leaving me to go through the Windows 7 boot up procedure, then a restart to try again.
I would prefer to be able to set this boot order in the BIOS settings.
Please can you tell me how I can do this?
Regards,
Mike

Jacked up Screen......PLEASE HELP PLEASE PLEASE

I made the mistake of upgrading to windows 10 on my Inspiron 14Z and had to pay someone to completely remove it and install my entire system....  My screen started acting up after the upgrade and has continued after deleting 10 and going back to windows 7 Premium.  It is getting worse by the hour.  Until the upgrade I had never had an issue.  It lasts longer each time i t happens.

I would appreciate any help fixing this.  I have tried a couple of suggestions for other models but have not had any luck in resolving the issue.

I am not very computer savvy and my computer guy thinks maybe the screen is going bad.  But after reading many many posts I am not sure that I think that.  And I need BASIC help.

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I have an inspiron 1520 laptop since april 2007. But for some of couple of week, I had some issues. Particularly, I had to reboot (regularly) the computer because it was still completely frozen. Nothing turned. So since yesterady, the computer remains with a black screen without starting on the hard drive or CD drive. I have recovered all data on the hard drive thanks to SSD accessories kit. So I think the problem is not from the hard disk but from memory . I found it ( hynix 1Gb 2rx16 PC2 ).

Did you meet the same issue? if yes, do you think that it's well the memory that I have to change? Where to find it ? Thank you by advance for your advices

Battery after 6 PC resets and multiple restarts in 10 days

In windows 8,1 environment with the assistance of Dell battery software , which was deleted after all those restores of the device and currently no one knows how to recuperate that, it would have been 5 hours.

The thing is you cannot trust software or hardware like those for productivity .

No matter what number I read in this machine with this software I cannot trust it.

No Such Service Tag?

I'm looking at my service tag on my XPS L702X and it is FZHHYP1 (the last character is a ONE) Looking to get support on drivers, etc. Dell says no such tag exists. I have verified that tag number in the BIOS. Tried it again - nope. So, I entered the Express code - it says that doesn't exist either?

Seriously?

Dell M3800 bricked completely thanks to Dell Recommended Bios Update. Please help looking for A08 Bios update!!

Hi all,

I dont usually post on forum but I think I should post this to make sure people aware how dangerous Dell Bios update can be and also looking for help to try to revive my laptop, which is now a thousand pounds toaster.

Yesterday I tried to update  from A03 to A08 bios by Dell diagnosis assistant cause it seems overheat ever since updated to windows 10.

It was going ok up to 9% then completely frozen after while It crash, fans still blow 100% till battery drain out. Now it wont show any sign of life.

I looked around forum, it turns out that happens to a lot of people with XPS 15 and firm solution is to replaced the mainboard or desold and resold bios chip. I found another options is to try to reflash the bios manually, thanks to james White's post:

https://blog.jmwhite.co.uk/2015/08/09/dell-xps-9530-uefi-bios-recovery/

However, it need the exact bios that I try to flash, which is A08 and it no longer on Dell download page ( a09 is the current one and I have no idea why the Dell system assistant send me link to A08 )

Try digging , googling all their download page to no avail, Dell support just brushed me of  cause my warranty expired 3 months ago. If any one have a copy of the m3800-a08.exe lying around that I can have it would be much appreciated before I have to go down the expensive road to fix.

WARNING: PLEASE DON'T INSTALL BIOS UPDATE CARELESSLY OR YOU MIGHT END UP DOOMED LIKE ME, EVEN IF IT IS RECOMMENDED BY DELL

Needless to say I am very disappointed with Dell support. By having these updates lying around and branded as recommended update, they can pretty much disable their products remotely.  Since by now, xps 15 and m3800 laptops warranty are most expired after 1 year, they practically give middle finger to their clients.

Inspiron 3147 High CPU usage windows 10

Hello

is anyone else who upgraded to windows 10 seeing high cpu usage (100%) all the time?

I searched around the web and found others (not necessarily dell 3147) experiencing the same thing. One forum I read suggested fooling with the power plans. I did this and discovered that if you reset the balanced plan to default settings it will cause the cpu usage to go back to normal until the laptop sleeps or it is rebooted.

I also read here a thread that seemed like some users are seeing this and part of the touchscreen not being responsive. I don't have that issue, just the high cpu  one. It obviously also cause a major drain on the battery since the cpu is throttled up to full power/speed.

Everything else if working well and I just updated to the new 07 bios to make sure that wasn't the issue.

Any ideas or directions would be appreciated... I am pulling my hair out!
