Need Recovery Discs for Inspiron 15 3520

I have an Inspiron 15 3520 with Windows 7 Professional 64bit which has a crashed hard drive. I stupidly did not think to make a set of recovery DVDs, though I did make an Emergency disc, which is useless.

I called Dell tech support, who will only send me a generic Windows installation DVD.

I find it difficult to believe that I bought this laptop refurbished, and that the factory load of software had to  be loaded on it at some point in the refurbishment process, that nobody inside Dell cares enough to help a customer to  burn two CDRs with the  Recovery media.

I've bought many Dell systems, and recommended Dell to many family members.

The Dell technicians were very rude after I told them that a generic Windows 7installation media was not helpful (I already had that, they sent me one of those once before when I asked for recovery media for a different laptop).

When I worked for CompUSA, I had binders full of recovery media for Compaq, Packard Bell, HP, IBM, Apple, and other systems we serviced and sold. Plus, anyone at Dell who owns a 3520 could simply run the recovery program and burn a set of media for me as a favor.

This is what is called customer service.

Telling a customer that it is IMPOSSIBLE to ever get the unit back to factory condition ever again, is not customer service.

I could buy a set from eBay, but I do not trust that those discs are malware free.

I do not want to load a generic Windows on my laptop and lose all the licensed, preloaded Dell software that came with my system.

Can someone at Dell help me?

Dell XPS Developer Edition Kernel Panics!

Hey there!

I've had the Dell XPS Developer edition for about a month, maybe a little longer.  So far I really, really want to like this laptop.  Screen is excellent, and overall performs very well.

I'd like see if I can get some help with the kernel panics.  I've read a bunch of the forums and have tried stuff like blacklisting certain drivers, and I've upgraded several packages related to keyboard drivers, etc.  BIOS has been upgrade from A03 to A05 as well.

The only other issues are the keyboard still repeats (though now a lot better than it used to be), and the touchpad can be very, very sensitive at times.

Given all the issues, I'm seriously considering asking for a refund at this point.  Tons of issues on a delivered product like this is less than acceptable in 2015.

jittery mouse pointer

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Latitude XT that had Windows Vista before. While installing the drivers that I downloaded from the Official Dell website , I noticed that the mouse pointer was jittering and unresponsive after each restart, it was unresponsive until I entered password , then I could move it with the mouse and it stopped jittering. Also same problem when a dialog box opens requiring a response to open an app or utility. Mouse is a e source wireless optical mouse, please help

I neglected to add to the list of symptoms that the touch screen option only works with the pen/stylus. This feature worked fine when Windows Vista was installed, the driver also came from the official Dell website. I'm assuming that the driver versions between all the associated problems are having conflicts and probably should uninstall all of the related rivers and then re-install them one by one and verify that the problem is or isn't still there.

Leave XPS 13 plugged in or no?

I have a new Dell xps 13 QHD touch model and it's a great laptop, and i would like to get the most out of my battery. I do use it extensively though and sometimes go through 2-3 charges in a day if i'm doing some heavy work on it. Would it be best to always leave my laptop plugged in so that it's using only power directly from the power cord, or would the extra heat this generates actually be bad for the battery in the long run? I just don't want my battery to degrade quickly since I use this laptop so often. What's the best option here?

Issue with Dell hardware changes in same model (For Example “Latitude E7450-: When I purchased this laptop two month back it was having different hardware, and when I am purchasing same model now, it has changed hardware.)

We are facing very big problem with Dell Hardware changes in the same models. Problem is very complicated, let me describe this here.

Step1-: We use the SCCM OSD task sequences to install the laptops and desktops.

Step2-: When dell releases any new model (Laptop or Desktop) we purchase that from dell to check its compatibility with our SCCM OSD build.

Step3-: We download the available drivers from Dell Website for that model, import them to SCCM, create driver packages and adds them in SCCM OSD task sequences. Sometime Dell “Drivers.cab” may consist drivers which does not work fine with SCCM, when we manually install those drivers from Setup.exe then they works fine but when we imports those drivers .INF in SCCM and install them then it crash the OS installation.

Step4-: we have to test all driver installation in through SCCM OSD task sequence and if any of the drivers does not work, then we check with dell and Dell provides us the SCCM compatible versions and we use that. Ultimately it is a time taking process.

Step5-: After all hue and cries we prepares a working package of all drivers for a particular model by which all available hardware can be installed during SCCM OSD installation. Then we release that working SCCM Task Sequence which has the integration of working driver set in production and it uses on all our sites (more than 250 sites globally.)

Step6-: Earlier, When Dell Changes the hardware it used to change the model number and our practice (Step1 to step5) was working fine.

But since last one year Dell is changing the hardware in the existing models, for Example “Latitude E7450-: When I purchased this laptop two month back it was having different hardware, and when I am purchasing same model now, it has changed hardware.”

I released a drivers set for the model (Latitude E7450) which I purchased earlier but that drivers set is not working on the same model of laptop which are being purchase recently SCCM build fails/crash in between when it install old drivers on recently purchased model.

Again we take the same model in Lab and repeat the steps1 to step 5. But we are not sure till when this is going to work because Dell is changing the hardware in same model again and again without a prior notification of model version change.

We are facing same challenge in the below given models.

Laptop

Latitude E7450

Latitude E7440

Latitude E7240

Latitude E6540

Desktop

OptiPlex 9020

OptiPlex 3030

Workaround-: we downloaded the new updated drivers from Dell site and installed manually for these models and it worked, but we cannot do this work manually for each and every laptop of this model being purchased.

Questions from Dell-: We are facing this challenge regularly with Dell systems. Dell is changing hardware in the same model after a significant time. This time we faced this problem in India.

1-: Can we expect a solution from Dell?

2-: Is Dell changing their approach and can change hardware in any model any time. This is regularly happening after the release of E7440. Many models of dell have the changed hardware if we compare them with the same model releases earlier.

3-: How can we approve a model for global use? If hardware will be changed without changing the model number. Is there a best practice or a better approach. We ask Dell to provide their suggestions.

Inspiron 14 3000 (3452 I think)- Can I use an 8 gig strip of RAM?

$
0
0

I am thinking of buying the Inspiron 14 3000 that is currently on sale (Celeron N3050, Windows 10 64bit), but am dissappointed with the 2 gigs of RAM it is sold with. Since the RAM is not integrated, I would be willing to upgrade it.

I spoke to Dell twice about this. First time I called to inquire and was told the laptop is compatible with an 8 gig RAM stick, but Dell only sells 4 gig for this model. I would have to buy the 8 gig somewhere else and install it myself. And I'm fine with this option.

I then called back to make my order and ended up talking with the Rep and came upon this topic again. This time I was told the maximum amount of RAM this laptop could be upgraded to is one 4 gig stick. The computer would not be able to recongize any more than that. He then tried to sell me a more expensive model. This was dissappointing, so I didn't order.

So what is the real answer? I do not want to keep calling and run a poll before I order. Can the Inspiron 14 3000’s be upgraded to 8 gigs or not?

It would be a great laptop with 8 gigs. But not so much at 4.

Thank you in advance for any help.
