Dell XPS 14z L412Z + msata?

$

Greetings -  I recently purchased a Dell XPS 14z L412Z (Service Tag:<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>| Express Service Code:<ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>) used. I was under the impression that the laptop had an msata slot - which I had hoped to install my Samsung 840EVO that was in my Thinkpad X230.

Before I bust her open, I wanted clarification as to whether this particular XPS has an msata slot. There seems to be some conflicting info out there (might just be a case of different model numbers).

Cheers!

Inspiron 545 - full D:RECOVERY partition..

I hope someone can point me in the right direction to solve this irritating problem. I have an Inspiron 545 which at the moment keeps advising me by 'popup' that the D: recovery disk is full..The system was purchased preloaded with Vista and was upgraded shortly thereafter to W7.  It has now been upgraded to W10 which seems to be working OK.

I assume the original Vista copied to the recovery partition by Dell was overwritten by the W7 installation which is of course larger and now [well in three weeks time] by W10 which is larger still.  Therefore the original partition size designed for Vista is now to small to accommodate W10 etc. Would this assumption be correct.

However my immediate  problem is to either increase the partition size or to reduce the programs etc which are on there.  To my knowledge, nothing is or has been written direct to D: so I can't think of any other way that it has become full.

Being a 'user' rather than a 'techie' I do hope for a simple solution but I somehow think that may be unlikely.

Many thanks for looking..

Plugged in, Not charging/Battery Not Detected Problem!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. I don't want to buy a new laptop since i have a working PC. I just want a laptop so i can take it to places. I've had this problem for quiet a while now. I need the charger plugged in to power up my Laptop. 1 little move and the laptop shuts down since it is stuck at 0% and it won't charge. I am receiving the Plugged in, Not charging error and also time to time it changes to 100% Battery not Detected and then it goes back to the Plugged in, Not charging error. My BIOS is updated i tried deleted the Adapter and installing it and it still doesn't work. I think it might be the Battery fault but if i go on BIOS and look at the Battery options it shows Adapter: Unknown. Does this mean that its my Chargers fault? I want to know since I was thinking about buying a new Battery but I don't want to buy it if its not the problem. Is there anything I should check before thinking about buying a new Battery or Charger? Thanks.

My Display is flickering in BIOS and also in Pre-boot PC Diagnostic mode. I had contacted with Local Laptop engineer he told me that the problem may be in AMD graphic card. He told me that your LCD is good. Please advise me if any problem occurs because of AMD Graphic card.

BIOS update failed

Hi, i've a xps 15 from 2012. The usb ports were working only intermittently, so i followed some advice on the dell site to update the bios. i think it was bios a8 and the update was to a16.

i went ahead but the update failed - it begins to boot and i can access post and the bios settings but it gets stuck before loading windows 8.1 and goes to a start up repair program but that does nothing good and says the os is incompatible with startup repair. it does however allow me to access "startup recovery options". however i have no system restore points nor a system image. it does allow me to access a command prompt.

i tried F9 in the bios to return to set up defaults but that doesnt help. bios version currently says A16 so the update happened but some config is wrong to allow full boot.

my windows install normally allows booting to W7 or W8.1, so possibly that brings up the start up recovery error.

some advice on the dell site suggests removing the cmos battery but i suspect that will only reset the clock.

any tips.... please ;) as i cant see a way forward at the moment!

I bought a new Dell Workstation M8600 with very high specs that costed me around 7000USD. When I received my laptop it shipped with app called DDP Console. I have tried to set my Fingerprint but the sensor does not recognize that I am placing my finger. I went to Dell support website and download both :-

1. Dell ControlVault Driver

2. Dell ControlVault Firmware Update

when I run ushupgrade.exe I get message says"The Credential Management is initialized. Please enter the ControlVault Admin Password to update the ControlVault Firmware." I have no idea what is my CV Admin Password. I have not set any password in bios at all. and if I use my windows user password it start displaying

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program will update the ControlVault firmware

i have tried 4 times to install win 10

3 times from Microsoft updates

Once with the Media download tool

i get this same result every time

It downloads ok (win 10)  then i get the install screen with the big circle and percentage in it

It does the Copying files ok, then computer restarts then installation continues and now it is installing features and drivers, that goes ok, computer restarts again and should finish the 3rd part, which is configuration settings, the dell logo comes up then screen goes black, i waited an hour and it stayed black no curser showing

After the hour i turned it off and on again, it said attempting to recover installation, screen went black ,waited half an hour, nothing.

Turned it off again and after the dell logo it said, restoring previous version of windows

I have tried 4 times

It will not complete the install .

With the Media download tool the message was  " the installation failed in the second_boot phase with an error during boot operation"

My computer is a Inspiron 17(7737)  win 8.1  64 bit, dell says it is up to date

Processor: Intel(R) core(TM) i5CPU M460@2.53 GHz

System Type: 64-bit OS

Just wondering when will the windows 10 drivers for this model be available.

Dell Inspiron 3443 touchpad problem

Hi guys! I just bought a Dell Inspiron 3443 with Window 8.1 operating system for about 3weeks ago. And I notice that sometimes touchpad just hangs and doesn't work even if I'm just browsing the web or sometimes when I'm installing new applications, and it takes time before it works again. Then there's also time that the touchpad works but when I'm scrolling two fingers while browsing it doesn't scroll up and down, it only moves the mouse cursor. I've tried the new Windows 10 then it doesn't encounter the problem. But there are issues in some apps in Windows 10 that's why I downgrade back to Windows 8.1.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks in advance guys.

Studio XPS 1640 fails to boot. No bios, no fan check. Volume +/- light up, mute light flashes...

I have a Studio XPS 1640 (model PP35L) that fails to boot. The lights along the audio board light up left to right and back (as it should) but then stops. The volume raise and lower lights stay on and the mute light flashes.

The cooling fan doesn't test run, neither does anything else. Nothing on the display either.

I re-seated the ram to check that it was OK

A Google search said to replace the motherboard. I did that and the problem persists.

Anyone got any hints, tips or advice please??

Driver install issue

I just bought Dell Inspiron 15 (5558). Install Win 8.1, downloaded drivers from dell site using service tag, and started with installation. Then problems started to appear. Vga driver did not finished successfully. Audio also. Almost every driver failed. When I try to extract driver, instead install it, in destination folder there is no file. In 'original' destination folder C:\ProgramData\..... there is no folder created when looking what is in log file.

Here is log for touchpad:
