Alienware Command Center w/ Windows 10

So after having a disaster trying to upgrade from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro I decided that the only safe way to install windows 10 on the Alienware 17 system is to do a clean install.

As for AWCC, this is a total failure..  This app hasn't been updated in quite a long time and I tried several times and ways to get it working but it will not run and is not supported under W10.

With as outdated as this application is, I'm wondering if Dell is going to put any effort into fixing it because as of now those of us that are enjoying the update to W10 are unable to access any of the features in AWCC and it doesn't matter whether you do an upgrade or a clean install, it will not work in either case..

How about some answers and rolling out updates to AWCC or at least telling us all that with Windows 10 we're all screwed now..

I’m using Windows 8.1 32-bit edition on Dell Inspiron 11 (3148). In Control panel, System settings, it says I have 4 GB of RAM, but only 1.86 GB usable. For trial purposes I installed Windows 8.1 64-bit edition (I cannot use this version though). It now says "4 GB installed, 3,89 GB usable".

Windows 32-bit edition is supposed to use up to 4 GB of RAM. What’s wrong in my case?

DELL Inspiron 1564 RAM Upgrade

Dear all,

I'm using DELL Inspiron 1564 Laptop with:

- Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1

- Motherboard Model 0M9XW4

- Chipset Intel Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridge Rev. 12

- Southbridge HM55 Rev. 06

- BIOS Version A05 (02/09/2010) (factory default)

- 2 RAM slots with 2 SO-DIMMs plugged in, total amount of RAM is 3GB (2GB+1GB) (factory default)

I've read previous posts in this topic and I'm aware maximum ammount of RAM is 2x4 GB.

My question is related to the statement posted here, it states that Intel HM55 Express Chipset requires a specific configuration of memory chips on RAM module:

The problem is that the HM55 chipset does not recognize modules assembled with inserts RAM 512Mx8bits ... having your limit 256Mx8bits.

So make sure that the memory module that will buy your mount has taken 16 tablets 256Mx8bits, otherwise will not work.

I spent a little time so I bought Kingston memories of new models (2x4GB), mounted with 8 tablets 512Mx8bits (4096MB or 4GB) and I had to exchange for Patriot modules with 16 tablets 256Mx8bits.

For the same reason the notebooks that use the HM55 chipset has a maximum of 8GB memory = 2x ((256Mx8bits) x 16) = 2x 4Gb.

Is this true or false for my current state of configuration (chipsetr and BIOS version)?

Does the BIOS and chipset works with 2x4GB where each SO-DIMM module is constructed of 8x512MB and/or 4x1024MB?

I understand newer BIOS version is available for update (version A13, release date 06 Apr 2011), but I haven't made any BIOS updates simply because system is working optimal so far and I'm a "don't_fix_if_ain't_broken" person :-)

If, on the other hand, BIOS update is required for my laptop to work with total of 8GB RAM in configuration 2x4GB where each SO-DIMM is made of 8x512MB and/or 4x1024MB I'm willing to update BIOS to ver. A13, I just need your confirmation on this.

Thank you in advance for your help and reply.

Have a nice day.

Marko.

Battery types for Dell Vostro 1015 PP37L

Hello everyone,

My name is Alex and I am in France.

I have an old Dell Vostro 1015 type PP37L.

The battery is dead and I want to replace it.

I can see there is lot of batteries types with different capacity, my old one is a small one and is labelled 14,8V . I would replace this old one by a 11,1V with bigger capacity but I don't know if it is compatible.

When I go to the spare parts, I can't find if the 11,1V is compatible and could replace the old 14,8V installed.

Can you help me to be sure there will be no problem if I buy the 11,1V battery to replace the 14,8V ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Alex

Vostro 5470 - How to boot from USB

$

I have a Vostro 5470. I have created a Windows 10 USB installer flash disk. Have used it successfully a few times already on other laptops. Thing, is...I cant seem to get my Vostro to boot off the USB when the BIOD is in UEFI mode.

If I change the BIOS type to Legacy, the USB boots just fine. BUT the issue I run into there is that I cant install Windows 10 as the partition type is GPT.

I want to be able to install Windows 10 from the USB flash and retain the GPT partition style.

Can anyone assist?

when i try to start my laptop the INSPIRON bar comes up on boot and the blue moves across on the bottom of the screen and then it goes to a blank screen with a underscore flashing in the upper left corner.  I am currently running a preboot diagnostic by pressing the fn key and power button. So, far all tests have passed. Any suggestions. Thanks for your help.

A required drive partition is missing / inaccessible boot device?? Inspiron 7520

I have a DELL Inspiron 7520(service tag 4fb1gs1).  Originaly supplied with win7(sp1) home premium 64bit, Intel core i7-3612 QM @ 2.10 ghz, 8gb ram.  I can't pull up any other specs due to my current laptops lack of operation.

The issues--

I decided to take advantage of the win10 upgrade.  Microsofts tool checked and approved my device for the upgrade.  The initial upgrade worked and my laptop was now win10 home.  After a check to see if my Win10 has been correctly key activated, I decided to do a pc reset (clear files, apps and settings) via MS tool in settings.  After finishing reset and rebooting to desktop I get the error "inaccessible boot device" and than proceeds to go in a loop of restarts.

Figured I would try now a clean install via USB boot using the MS creation tool.  Using the repair and fresh install options and after completing some intial start settings I get the error "unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing"

So I am now officially stuck with no pc.  I searched for hours online for an answer to this problem to no avail.  Even this message was done frustratingly through a cell phone.

I am the family resident service tech and I assumed I was tech savy.  Before I swallow my pride and goto geeksquad......

Is my laptop bricked?

Anyone know of a solution?

I will be checking my cell phone for any replies......

Inspiron 1420 auto-typing with or without keyboard

Guys, I am facing this issue from last few months.

Well, whenever I power on my 1420 or bring it to normal from Sleep mode, my laptop starts auto-typing wherever it sees cursor. And surprising even with removing keyboard. See attached image.

Initially I thought it was virus, but then when I "muscled" with my laptop, I figured hardware issue to be sure. I hit my finger at some points heavily and finally found a point which stops this auto-typing and after that laptop functions absolutely normal.

I am attaching image where I have put White Arrow to show button I press hard to stop auto-typing.

Like I said, this is temporary solution as I have to do every single time I bring laptop back from sleep mode using main power button in center. I have no clue what is getting stuck with keyboard absent or present, it does not matter.

Dell XPS 17 L702X - Can't get into BIOS - F2 / F12 Functions not working....

Have tried over the weekend to upgrade to Windows 10. Epic FAIL

Tried installing on an SSD - when it didn't work, removed the SSD and went back to SATA drive.

Suddenly can't get into BIOS.  Even though F2 Enter Setup goes bold when I press F2 (so the keyboard is working), nothing happens and we skip straight into loading windows.

Have tried reloading firmware (original and alternative), no change - F2 / F12 still don't work.

Any advice on how to restore the Function key behaviour??

Many thanks

Bruce

I have a M4800 laptop and since I put Windows 10 on it, I cant get the video camera to work.  When I use Skype, it sees that I have a camera, but it will not work.  Does anyone know where I can get updated drivers for the video camera?  If not, does anyone know who the manufacturer of the camera is, so I can check to see if they have any updated drivers?  Any help would be great!

Hello and thanks for all your help. I have a Dell Inspiron 5520 that recently will not boot or show the Safe Mode Option under Windows Boot Manager. ePSA reveals error code 2000-0151 which seems to pretty much mean I need a new hard drive. I did reseat the drive to no avail. If i do purchase and replace the hard drive, will I need to purchase windows as well? I have no backup discs at all. I do have a Windows 7 Product key and label in the battery compartment. Thanks for any help you might have on this.

Recover Windows 8.1 and get the built-in Windows Product Key

I have a Dell Venue Pro 8 tablet. I tried to factory restore last week, during the restore, the tablet hanged and can't restart.

I built the recovery USB drive before the restore, but the system ask me to plug AC power to restore via USB drive. However, this device has one USB port only, I can't plug the restore USB drive and AC power at the same time, even I tried a USB hub.

What can I do to restore the Windows 8.1? And how can I get the Product Key in a built-in device?
