I have a Inspiron N5110 which beeps 8 times on start up. It repeats 8 beeps three time before it starts a normal window. There seems to be no problem except the beep sound which seems to continue slowly in the background. The laptop has no other problem. Any suggestions to solve this issue......

Trying to download Windows 8.1 to my Inspiron 15 7000Series from the Widows Store and keep getting a message that I need to use a User acct with Administrator ability and I only have one user acct and it has administrator ability. I'm lost.
I have an Inspiron 15R 5521 that would not power on. I replaced the motherboard and still the same issue. I happened to turn to try to turn it on without the keyboard connected and everything works fine. It only wants to charge and turn on when the keyboard is dsiconnected.
Has anyone seen this before? Could the keyboard really be the whole problem?

I have had this laptop for a couple of weeks now, and am generally pleased, but the Touchpad irritates me. I have turned off or desensitized all functions so that unintended input doesn't cause unwanted changes. Making the Touchpad *** has has been a failure in my opinion. I now have it set so that I can navigate and click. Scrolling and all other gestures are turned off. As it is, the touchpad sensitivity will change the longer the laptop is on, and in use. And I can't figure out why the scrolling and gestures will suddenly reactivate (even though the properties show them to be off). I also turned off Charms, but they still pop up, even if I'm not pointing to the upper right corner of the screen. That's probably a Windows 8.1 issue though. I hope Windows 10 is better, but I'm losing hope.
I bought a used Dell laptop Latitude E6410 from a private person in December 2013, with Windows 7 Pro 64 on it.
In monkeying around, the result was that its hard drive got completely wiped.
During 2014, I talked to Dell, and they said I could not get the appropriate discs or flash drive to install Windows; something about I needed to provide the name etc etc of the place I bought it from?
I was unable to get any help from the seller.
The computer is in fine shape, has its sticker with service tag on the bottom.
What can be done to get Windows on this, as it used to be?
My friend loaned me his HDD from a broken HP computer; it would not boot on mine.

My Dell studio 1558 in booting because I can hear sound of fan but there is no display. I tried to remove battery & hold the power button almost 1m, an tried to boot with battery an without battery with the help of power chord. I changed my both ram ddr3 an hdd also but same. I tried to diagnostic with fn+power button but no response from lappy. Pls suggest me what to do ? I also called dell care but they denied to provide any service. I called to local dealers they told me that It may be processor failure. Guide me on this. Thanks
Occasionally my M3800 will have no video on startup (8 beeps).
The screen is brand new, so I do not think that is the problem.
If I need to replace the motherboard, can someone tell me the differences in each model?

After installing new ram (2 kingston 8GB chips totaling 16GB RAM) my CPU usage has been unstable i go from 2% CPU use to 8% while the computer is idling at times it even jumps above 20% while idle at times when on load (playing games and such) it jumps between 90 and 100% normally at about 97 or so percent so its far from nominal it even does this when opening and closing things like google chrome and task manager

i started getting high system interrupts and erratic CPU use after installing the new ram i'm guessing that it isn't very compatible and i've probably voided my warranty by installing it

I'm having trouble to boot on a USB Drive with my XPS 15Z that I bought in 2011.
What I'm doing:
- I'm creating a bootable USB drive with Rufus of Ubuntu OS
- The USB is bootable through MobaLive CD and is also bootable on another laptop (not DELL)
- I try to boot it with my laptop, but the USB is not recognized
What I've tried to do:
- I updated my L511Z BIOS to version A12
- I tried to play around with BIOS settings but there aren't many settings I can tweak
- I tried to see if my USB was recognized as a Hard Drive but it's not the case
- I even tried to disable Secure Booting but there are not options for that in the BIOS
Does anyone know how I can boot on my USB Drive ?

My Latitude E4200 laptop has been working fine for years, but I faced an CPU overheating problem last week.
Without any loads, it heated up to 60C. But with a medium load (60% - 70%) it heated up to 95C-100C and fan speed was ~6600 rpm but it did not help to decrease the temperature. After several minutes of such kind of load, CPU reached more than 100C and became throttling...
I disassemled my laptop to check if there some dust could be inside and cleaned it. No results, there was the same overheating. Then I looked under the heatsink and saw that the original thermal grease was completely dry...
I decided to replace bad thermal grease by a portion of a new grease meaning that dry grease could be the main root of the issue. But after replacing thermal grease and assembling the laptop I got the same high CPU temperatures again and the same overheating and throttling.
What the reason could be for this sudden CPU overheating? Could the heatsink's copper pipe be damaged? Should I probably try to replace the whole heatsink part by another one?
Otherwise I have no ideas how to solve this problem.
I would appreciate you for any help and/or suggestions.

I was using my laptop (a Dell XPS M1730 with XP x64) just fine yesterday, no issues, all working as it should; not Dell's most recent but was still running MS FS2004 OK. Then turned it off and tried to boot an hour later. It will not start..
The disc activity indicator flashes once or twice, but stops after a few seconds. The case lights come on, and so do lights on gaming peripherals attached by USB. But the screen stays black. No splash screen at all..
What does this indicate? It's not the screen per se, as I can see there's no disc activity after the first few seconds. If the disc had died, or the M/B, I would still get a splash screen, wouldn't I? (Maybe not with a M/B failure??). If the CMOS battery needs replacing, I thought I'd get an option to carry on booting with the F1 key for a while.
I am abroad with very few tools to deal with this (no O/S disc here with me for example). Just wondered if anyone knows what the lack of splash/boot screens would indicate?

Can someone please help with upgrading my ram? My machine is running win7 64bit with 3gb ram. There are 2 ram sticks, so I presume one is 2gb and the other is 1gb. I have been researching the interweb and am confused as to how I can/should configure a ram upgrade. I am also upgrading to an ssd drive as the original, according to diagnostics, is faulty (code 2000 - 0146) and although still working, windows occasionally crashes and is generally painfully slow. I thought, while I'm at it I may as well upgrade the ram also. First I thought it would be best to get 2 new 4gb ram sticks to replace both current sticks - 64bit is supposed to support 8gb......but in the specification manual for my n5030 its states a Max of 6gb ram for dual channel (I presume this means a sort of simultaneous parallel / equal load on both sticks). However this to me would imply that you need two 3gb sticks.......can you even get 3gb sticks? So what's the best thing to do?
1. Is it correct that I can't go to 8gb (2 x 4gb sticks)
2. If I can only go to 6, do I just get one new 4gb stick, remove the 1gb stick and run config of 2 + 4?
3. If the new stick is a different brand is that a problem (I know I need to match spec in terms of voltage etc.)?
4. If there is a problem mixing brands then what do I buy.....a 4 and a 2? can I buy a 3 and a 3?
5. If it can only be done with a 4 and a 2, does this mean that parallel processing is not possible, and in that case is there any real benefit jumping from 3gb to 6gb?
6. Should I forget about the ram and just upgrade the drive?
I am not a techy (obviously) and just trying to learn/find out what I can on the internet to keep the machine going for a couple more years. It is mostly used for browsing, email, word, media centre music (ripping CDs etc.) And copying/updating files, like music et., to various phones and ext hard drives for backup.
Any help, advice, recommendations appreciated.
