Dell Inspiron 15R will not come out of Sleep mode

Hello all,

I am looking for help with this problem.  I put my laptop to sleep when I am done working on it either through the software or by closing the lid and the next day when I go to wake it up it does nothing.  I am forced to press and hold the power button until it shuts down and then I power it back up.  I have checked the device manager settings for keyboard and mouse and there is no option for 'allow this device to wake computer'.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Dell Philippines support Issue. Beyond the worst.

Had a problem with my 2 month old dell desktop. it has 2 video HDMI & VGA built into the mother board.

All of a sudden the HDMI  signal dropped out. After about 1.5 hours and 4 people at Dell I am convinced they are promoting people from the staff cafeteria to the lower level of Tech Support. I spent about 1 hour of my 1.5 hour call on hold and 25 minutes re- explaining my issue and service tag code.

Trying to give the agent my email address was something out of a SNL skit. Needless to say I installed an old video card to the system so I can use this (I do have Business Support) or as I am calling it "MORON Support" and I am not referring to the customers.

I will have to calm down and try an figure out how to have this fixed without calling Overseas.

I think it is time to move over to Lenovo with my new business purchases.

Inspiron 15 (3543) Win 8.1 64bit - wireless dropping out

Hi,

Purchased a new Dell laptop.  All seems fine - apart from wireless.  Device Manager looks fine.  Downloaded latest driver from Dell Support.

Am getting about 10 successful pings to router, then connection drops.

Old laptop (Latitude) sitting beside it gets no dropped packets - so doesnt appear to be a router issue.

Any help would be welcomed!

I am unable to connect a second monitor to my laptop win8.1   64bit

I purchased a HDMI TO VGA ADAPTER to connect my ACER monitor whos end cord was a 15 pin male to my laptop. The acer displays "Cable not Connected"

in win8.1 I select the Microsoft key + P  that displays the Project flyout and I select EXTEND

I then go to control panel and select DISPLAY I select "Change display settings" and the LT monitor shows  a large number one in the icon. The dropdown display shows 1. Mobile PC Display
I then select DETECT  to search for the second monitor and at this point it should detect the second monitor but nothing happens ????????????

This function worked with my old laptop. But not with DELL.

Intel D830 Motherboard in an nVidia D820?

$

Sometime last July, the nVidia graphics in my venerable Latitude D820 failed. I've got this crazy idea to build a "Frankentude D832". The idea is to obtain a Latitude D830 motherboard with Intel graphics and put it in the Latitude D820 whose motherboard has nVidia graphics. Will it fit? The D820 and D830 look pretty much identical. But are there any major differences? For example: will I need an Intel D830's heatsink and fan assembly, or will the nVidia D820 one work?

Another severe problem with the Dell XPS 13 (2015) display

I discovered this happens when cleaning the display. When I apply pressure to the lower right end under the hinge, the screen turns off.

The pressure has to be quite high but obviously not high enough to damage it.

This video explains it:

I'd appreciate if anyone could check his/her laptop for the same issue and reply to this thread.

Also, if a Dell Support representative could show this to their technicians and report back, that would be great.

XPS 13 9343 Audio driver problems in Windows 10

My XPS is running the Windows 10 Pro technology preview and while most things have worked fine, I have had some issues with the sound card and audio drivers.  The problem has persisted between builds 9926 and 10041.

With the Realtek audio enabled, almost any application that uses the sound card will hang.  For example, Lync and Skype fail to launch and also IE will crash on any site that uses Flash.

Disabling the sound card and just using the USB audio of my headset has fixed all such issues.

Is anybody else using Windows 10 and have you experienced similar audio issues or not?  If you have audio working correctly under Windows 10, please can you confirm what drivers you are using?

Thanks.

Precision m6600, AMD ATI FirePro M6100 FireGL graphics card installation, thermal pads and thermal paste

Have scouted around in the forums & don't see this topic, so here goes. Would appreciate some guidance on the optimal placement for thermal pads & thermal paste on an AMD FirePro M6100 graphics card in a Precision m6600. I am upgrading the stock FirePro M8900 to the M6100. The cards are similiar, but not identical. I know I need to put thermal paste on the GPU itself, so I've secured some IC Diamond 7 Carat to do just that. However, the VRAM's & other raised surfaces on the card most likely need thermal pads or paste & the vendor just put a big light blue/green thermal pad in w/ the card & doesn't have any guides on where it is to be put, exactly. I have plenty of pad material to use from the M8900 & heatsink currently in the notebook, as well, & have re-purposed many of them, but temp still spikes to 90 degrees & climbing when it's pushed w/ high-end graphics in various applications, so I'm looking to stop that. Greatly appreciate any pointers you can provide. Have contacted AMD re: this & they said I need to ping Dell. Have reached out on several forums as well & still no go. Thanks again!

xps 15 l502x Possible Hard Drive Failure

$

Hello. I believe I may have experienced a HDD failure, but i'm not positive.

Last night I returned to boot up my XPS 15 after a Windows update earlier in the day. After logging on to the desktop, the system crashed unexpectedly, and I had to power the system off. Upon booting the system again, the splash screen was now slow to load, and an unusual noise started sounding off.

Next I ran diagnostics as recommended, and the system passed all tests save for the Hard Drive, which was now no longer being detected. My system is out of warranty, so I managed to open the system up and tried reseating the HDD in hopes of the BIOS detecting it again, but this did not solve the problem.

If left alone, the system now boots to an eventual black screen and I noticed an error of PxE-E61: Media Test Failure. I did a little research and my understanding now is that either the HDD failed, or a cable failed.

My question after all this is: Is this most likely a Hard Drive failure, since all the other diagnostic tests passed? If so I can just replace it and boot the OS from a disc, which is not so bad. Thanks for any assistance.

Laptop hangs on restart, cold boots fine

The subject basically says it all.  I've searched with Google and have not turned anything up.

The system is a Latitude e6520 refurb I bought online.  I have been in discussion with the seller and have sent it to them once to inspect and they installed a new hard drive.  It is running Windows 7 (ultimate) and has the most recent BIOS update A19.

It will consistently not find the drive when issuing the restart command from Windows;  I get an error "no boot device found" if I allow it to run past the initial boot screen.  When I enter the diagnostics menu, I get a similar drive not found error message.

The work around is a cold boot and while that seems to be fine, I know this isn't normal and it concerns me.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Inspiron 11-3147 touchpad problems

$

I received my 3147 from Outlet about a week ago. From the first time I started it, the touchpad did not lock in tablet mode. I searched the forums and deleted/reinstalled the touchpad and quickset drivers, only to find that I lost functionality of the touchpad and it *still* didn't lock in tablet mode.

I spent two hours on the phone with tech support at that point and we were unable to resolve the issue. A new motherboard and sensors were dispatched. I continued to search for a solution, and came across another forum post suggesting it was the chipset driver that was causing my system to fail to recognize the right touchpad drivers. I updated the I2C controller and reinstalled the touchpad and quickset drivers and it worked GREAT- for a day. Then, while I was using it, the computer stopped responding for about 30 seconds and after it started responding again the touchpad had returned to limited functionality and no locking in tablet mode (or locking at all- there was no longer even an option to disable it because it was identified as the PS/2 mouse with the generic 2006 driver). The Dell touchpad still showed up in device manager but when I would click on it, it never started and just hung there. I tried restarting the computer but nothing changed.

This morning I started up the computer and noticed that the icon for the Dell touchpad was back in my status bar. It wasn't functional, but it was there. After using the computer for probably five minutes, it stopped responding for about 30 seconds during which time the touchpad icon was showing activity. Out of nowhere, everything is functional again. My new motherboard and sensors are apparently still over a week out.

Any thoughts on whether a new motherboard and sensors will permanently solve this problem? I really want to love this computer, but I don't have the time or patience for ongoing problems and waiting another week for parts is going to put me dangerously close to the end of the 30-day return period. If I had purchased from any other retailer I would have returned immediately when it didn't work the first time I started it up.
