I've read a post from december 2011 from James2k. Here his problem.

My XPS 15z has developed a very strange problem.
Every 5 seconds or so the mouse, keyboard, video and sound seem to lock up/stick.
What I mean by that is if I'm using the mouse, it will get stuck for a brief second, if I'm using the keyboard it will lag for a second.
Playing a video e.g. YouTube video shows this problem up as the every few seconds the video image will freeze up and the audio will play a horrible continuous tone for a second or so (Like it was stuck). I know sometimes lag can happen, but believe me this isn't normal and with the specifications of this machine, this isn't right.
My XPS 15z has been fine up until a couple of days ago, it had never shown this behaviour before.
I'm really not sure where to start with troubleshooting as I don't really have much to go on. What I did try is booting Windows into safe mode with networking. I only tested it briefly but from what I did, there was no locking up issue.
I'm thinking this is probably a driver/hardware issue, but if anyone could advise me on fruther troubleshooting tips, I'd really appreciate it.
What I've tried so far:
Thanks,
James

Since my new XPS15 have this similar problem, i've tried to stop programs and services one by one to detect where the problem came from. Once I've close BitTorrent, to problem stopped. But it was not the program in itself. My issue came back when I was downloading from the internet to my computer. So, i have discover that each time i download something, the problem is here. Now, it is the fact of downloading, or the probem come when i write on my disc.
Is there a way to solve that without restoring my PC?
Thanks
(Sorry for my english)
I have a new Dell Inspiron 15-3521 laptop that came with windows 8 installed. We removed 8 and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 professional. We pulled all of the application, driver, and bios files off of the dell website and installed in the order suggested. Everything is working great other than when we plug the hdmi port into a projector or other monitor it does not recognize it in any way.
Any idea what driver we are missing or why this isn't working? We've tried adjusting resolution and detecting the 2nd monitor every way we can.
Thanks.
The problems started a while ago and me and my husband tried to resolve it in so many different ways but always the problem would come back. When the chrashes began we assumed the cpu was overheating so we cleaned the vents, opened it up and cleared away every speck of dust. We werent sure if we had mnaged to fix it bcs the chrashes were so random (it would work fine for a week then all of the sudden it would chrash then work fine for few hours then chrashed again and keep on chrashing 20 seconds after every attempt to turn it on then restart by its self and work fine for a day/few hours/a month - there wasn't any pattern). Random shut downs came back after few days so we bought an additional cooler for the laptop. Worked fine for a while then started chrashing again. I had a theory it was bcs this model (which i bought in 2006) isn't compatibile with the Win7 OS, so we installed first vista then xp, both with no luck. We had some battery issues which we resolved, during this proces, we even considered it to be battery/ac/power related. I'm all out of ideas does anybody know what it might be??
I am having Dell Latitude E 6420, as i connect the original charger, the following error message is given:
"The power adapter attached to your notebook is not recognized. Please insert a 90 watt Dell approved power adapter."
Kindly provide the resolution.
Hello,
I would like to know if my Latitude E6540 is HDMI 2.0 compatible?
Thank you.
I have a rather old E4200, which is making a lot of noise. I think it is a dirty fan. So I want to clean it. Can someone give advice on how to do it? I have tried using a vacuum cleaner and a pentane gas blower, but neither does much good.
Dismantling the laptop looks as though it needs some help. Does anyone know where I can get a repair manual?
When signed into the Dell support site with the service code, there is no option for a repair manual, though presumably Dell must have produced one. As this laptop is now obsolescent, Dell will not lose much by making it widely available to owners like me.
Thank you
Hello,
I recently ordered an M3800 with Ubuntu, but the laptop showed up running Windows. I would like to install Ubuntu on it, but I want it to be as close to the factory image as possible.
Is there a guide about adding repros or anything? I don't want to give my user a broken experience.
Thanks.
Hi,
First of all let me just say that my BIOS in Dell is somewhat different. I have an unlocked BIOS and I don't encourage anyone to try this, however since I already have the unlocked BIOS I would like to hear from Dell folks whether or not I can disable the integrated graphics (Intel HD4600) and just run the Nvidia Quadro K1100 on my Dell M3800 laptop (it's the newer one this year refresh).
I have options to disable switchable graphics and integrated graphics and run PCI-E graphics however I would like, if possible to hear from someone from Dell if you can tell me if this is possible and what options would do that on my particular laptop.
You can see my available options here:
Thanks.
My C840 has been sick lately. It will boot up, sometimes, at full speed, then throttle down to compatibility mode, which is almost unusable.
Since Speedswitch shows max speed as the compatibility speed when this happens, I'm curious to see what the BIOS says during this time. Does something change during the boot process? If I could peek at the BIOS screens while still running Windows it would be a help. Maybe there's a program to do this?
Hi all,
I work within a school where we use a customised Windows 8.1 x64 build on our brand new Dell E5440's. We are experiencing issues across a majority of the devices where when a blank and unformatted disc is inserted into the drive the device fails to read/write the disc and windows explorer stops responding. When this occurs the physical eject button on the drive becomes unresponsive and the only way to eject the disk is to use a paper clip in the manual release hole.
The CD/DVD drive is a HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GU90N. The driver the device uses is an embedded Microsoft driver, version 6.3.9600.16384.
I have tested the drive within a PE and it works fine, I've also tested a vanilla install of Windows 8.1 x64 and the drive works fine in this too.
Has anyone seen this issue or have any suggestions for what I can try?
I have tried the support tool from support.microsoft.com/.../en-us but this didn't work either.
Just arrived yesterday, Its the 17" I7 16GB 128SSD Boot with a 1TB 2.5 HDD,
Started to download all my Steam games to the new install folder on the 1TB HDD when the drive is in use it makes a tic tic sound? Any thoughts? it is definitely the drive. If I pull the drive the sound stops.
Not that I really care to much I am pulling the drive tomorrow in replace of a Samsung 1tb SSD 2.5
but I would like to send this drive back if there are problems or if somebody knows of an easy fix.
thanks
It looks like Dell makes a name for themselves, as the worst customer service of all companies, for all time. I have wasted potential days of my life, trying to get the simplest of transactions resolved. I am not exaggerating, in the least.
This fact coupled with the suggestion that there might be a easy solution to my technical issue, put one of Dell's products in the back of a storage closet for several years.
I have an Inspiron 1545 laptop, which I was told I could get a driver for the webcam, years ago. After my second-hand purchase I was assured that it was a simple fix. "Just go online and you'll find it on the Dell site". No such thing. Now, once again resurrected as a back-up travel computer the problem resurfaces...
Dell actually made a laptop computer with a webcam that is non-functional. Believe me. I have tried different installations, different OSes and various applications. I still have no webcam on this computer. Thanks, Dell.
I have a e5420 laptop and in the device manager I have an unknown device. If I click on properties I see it is a device on "PCI bus 9, device 0, function 2".
What device can it be?
Thank you
I have an e5420 laptop and I face the following problem. When I astart a video call sometimes video freezes.
The device manager shows the video cam working properly.
What can I do?
Thank you

Hi,
I have a Dell Stylus pencil for my Dell Venue 8 Pro.
Everything worked fine until last friday. Now I'm not able to use the pencil.
What action I've to do for solving this issue ?
Recently bought QHD model, 8 gb RAM, i7 5600 CPU. I am OK with everything except the slowish performance. Before this one I had a 2011 MBP 13 (i7 2620m CPU, 8 gb RAM, intel hd 3000, 1280*800 resolution) and that 4 year old laptop still performs better than my new XPS 13. There is no big difference, but I can still notice XPS is slower (or not as snappy) on any basic operation on desktop + chrome. I dont play games just web and MS office.
