dell precision M3800 database fried after bios update
Hello,
Try to stay away from upgrading your BIOS if you are on a DELL Precision M3800 mobile workstation.
I have loved the machine for over a year, powerful, reliable, I had a dead pixel and Dell support was very fast and replaced the screen.
Yet once the warranty wear off, just two months after, during a bios update (from Dell support site, I was applying all driver updates) upgrading from A06 to A07 version of the bios, the computer froze 53% into the upgrade with the fans spinning at full speed. Now I cannot even turn on the machine .. THE MOTHERBOARD IS FRIED.
It seems I'm not the only case, Dell wants me to send the computer to Texas on my own coin so they replace the motherboard... I have a bit of an issue with that as I was applying an update issued by DELL... I think Dell should pay for this repair.
Anyone else in this situation ?

how return-to-depot works?
I bought my dell laptop in China. Last week my computer cannot turn on any more no matter I tried to unplug or plug battery and power cord. I'm now living in Canada so I called Dell internet technical service line and was told by an agent to fill out an ownership transfer form. I did it on Tuesday and received a confirmation letter said it's been done.
I checked the warranty status and it's in return-to-depot still. Here's my question:
What shall I do to process the next steps, say, how can I bring the computer to depot (CTS)? I've called Dell (1-800-624-9896) for 4-5 times and provided service tag as well as express code for many times, however, no any answer I've got.
What shall I do then?

Laptop Restarts when opening lid
Hi, I have had an issue the past two-three months where my laptop would restart upon being opened after I had closed it earlier in the day. However, now the issue has become frequent and has a 70-90% chance of it restarting if I open the lid up. I've tried setting hibernate off and changing my power options but they yield no results. How do I fix this issue?
For clarity of what I mean, I:
>Close my laptop lid
-Laptop sleeps/ Power light is blinking
>Later in the day, I open lid
-Power light disappears
-Power light reappears
-Screen shows the start-up screen and loading circle (aka restarts)

5530 - Update BIOS but version does not change.
I went to the support page for my 5530 and tried to run the updates that it picked for me. Three driver updates and a BIOS update. First off the chipset driver installation failed multiple times. Also I tried to update the BIOS and after running the .exe and the computer rebooting, it came up with the same 5530A07 version it had before. The Dell page said to run 5530A15, I tried that, then tried 5530A09 which was the next step up. That also completed, yet still shows A07.
I then created a bootable USB and tried to run, first A15 then A09 again with the same results... it runs, restarts, and still has A07 installed.
Very frustrating... Anyone have any idea how to get the BIOS version up to the latest?

DELL M4500 Booting Issue
Hi!
For month I have a big problem with my dell. After night when I try to power on it screen backlight turns on and nothing happens. I have to power on and power off several times and after that welcome screen appears. I bought dell with 1 year guarantee and last time I sent it to seller. He brang me back and tell that I have problem with SSD. I replaced SSD to another and still have the same problem.
Please help me. Maybe this issue is common in this model.

Laptop with typing friendly keyboard?
I'm from India. A free-lance developer so I've to write and manage huge amount of .net code on daily basis. I've upgraded to HP Envy j100 i7 last year (ordered from amazon USA as configuration like this wasn't available in my country) but later realized that its not typing friendly at all and I had to use a mouse because of its stupid touchpad. Function and Arrow keys are too small. Before HP I had Vostro 1450 2nd Gen i5 which I sold last year and now I cry because its not available anymore.
Now I managed to get a used Aspire 5750G (from Australia), its heavy but touchpad/keyboard is acceptable, only the arrow keys are same as of HP and are very small and kills my hands. Still looking something similar to my beloved Vostro 1450. Dell is not smart to remove that keyboard/touchpad set on their new models.
I basically want a laptop with keyboard and touchpad just exactly like Vostro 1450 with 4th or 5th Gen chipset. Should be a non-touch 14" (preferred) or may be 15" laptop with i5 or i7 processor. RAM/HDD/SSD isn't an issue for me as I' going exchange these things from my HP/Aspire models. My budget is 1000 USD

I have an inspiron laptop. Last week when I went to turn it on it came up with an error code: 0xc00000e9. I then ran a diagnotic test and the error 2000-0142 came up. It will not turn on no matter what I do so i cannot download anything to fix, nor can I backup my files. What can I do?

Selecting Text is Hinky on Inspiron 17 5749
No matter what tap settings are in Dell Touchpad program, selecting text in any program or window is crazy. Yep I can tap or double tap to select single words, sentences but if I want to select specific letters or areas, it's totally erratic. I'm used to clicking the place to start, holding down the left button and highlighting then releasing. I try placing, highlighting and holding a sec; selecting backwards; all manner of taps and double taps. Some work sometimes and other times they don't.
If I hold down the left button and highlight it will highlight the text or area but when I release, it's gone.
I just spend nearly $1,000 that was a stretch to afford and this is totally throwing my ability to work efficiently!
Any help is appreciated!

Dell laptop XPS 15z freezing
Dear All,
I really like my Dell XPS 15z but recently it’s been causing me headaches.
First of all, after my warranty expired (purchased in mid 2012), the battery ended its life. In order to keep using the laptop I had to physically remove it. As a new battery is kinda hard to get in PL, I decided to use my laptop as a stationary computer (which is fine as I don’t need to use it during travels, etc). So this is my first problem – why the battery, even if not used extensively and with “safe mode” (or whatever that function to save battery life is) always turned on, the laptop would not work at all forcing me to buy a new one for $200 (which I didn’t do). The battery was barely used. Even my old Fujitsu laptop had a better battery which, after using it for 5 years, was still able to keep the computer alive for about 30 minutes. But it was there and the system was not telling me to buy a new one in order to use the computer at all.
But this is not as annoying as the issue I’m experiencing now. Last week my computer started to randomly freeze. I noticed it while watching youtube clips. It would freeze for about 1-2 second and then keep working like nothing happened. It would stop everything – mouse cursor movement, page scrolling, etc. It occurs every 60 seconds or so (more less).
I used tons of software like Norton and Spybot to check the computer for viruses and spyware; defragged the HDD (250 out of 500 GB of free space) with OO defrag; used Dell diagnostics (both under Windows and the one that you can access by pressing F12 key while the system is booting). Nothing. Used different tools to determine health of HDD. Nothing, it’s in good condition. All the Win7 updates are being regularly installed. Yesterday, I opened the cover to clean radiators/fans but there was not too much dust inside.
I have not tried to reinstall my Windows 7 (64 bit) yet. Any other suggestions before I do that?
I’m afraid that it may be my HDD telling me it’s time to say good bye but I assume there would more signs of that, right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the freezing is extremely annoying.

Upgrade Memory Dell Inspiron i3147-3750sLV
Just purchased the Dell Inspiron i3147-3750sLV 2-in-1 Laptop which comes standard with 4GB SODIMM DDR3L 1333Mhz memory on board.
I would like to upgrade to an 8GB memory stick and was wondering:
1) Can this laptop support the 8GB? I have read reports of others accomplishing this, however, the specifications book for this particular product lists 4GB as the only configuration supported for memory.
2) Would the Crucial 8GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL11 SODIMM 204-Pin 1.35V/1.5V Notebook Memory CT102464BF160B work?

Inspiron 1546 - Change USB Device Ports/Hubs?
Hi,
I have little knowledge on this subject, so I may have some of the terms or explanations wrong.
Firstly, I'm trying to stream audio and video from two different USB devices (one for audio, one for video) on a website called Ustream, which is letting me stream one or the other, but not together.
When both USB devices are used together, I am greeted with a pop-up stating something along the lines of - 'you do not have enough bandwidth, please try using a different port/hub/bus' (i'm not sure which). Then a chart appears showing 8 different ports (1 to 8), but it shows both USB devices are assigned to port number 7, even though they are in different slots in my laptop.
So what I'd like to know is -
- Is the fact both USB devices are assigned to port 7 causing the bandwidth problem?
- Can I change one of the devices to another port?
- If so, how do I make the change?
PS. There is no 'Port' option in my Device Manager, which was suggested in other websites I have searched.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated,

Network Disconnect
I've had my Dell Inspiron 3520 for a few years now. When I first purchased it I had problems with my Wifi connection constantly dropping no matter what I did. Called Tech support they "fixed" the issue, well now it is doing it again, and is out of warranty. Can anyone please help me on this matter? I am a full time college student and need to be able to access a reliable internet source at home. My service tag is 7VDFCV1 I will gladly offer up any more information that may be necessary to help solve this issue. Please help.

Upgrade my failing graphics card: need advice!
I have a Dell XPS Studio 16 laptop i've had for a while, and it's worked great, and is still great, however i fear my graphics card is beginning to fail me, and i was hoping i could replace it. Is this possible? and how do i ever find out what is the next compatible graphics card i can use?
It's not like going to the manufacture website just says 'this is the card you have? well, you can upgrade it to this! it's the same, just better' there's nothing like that to refer to, so i was wondering. My computer has given me a few issues, random shut-downs in relation to some gaming, and i had a blue screen appear for a few moments at one time, though it vanished pretty fast, but that's still cause for alarm!
anyone got any ideas?

I have a 9kx23n1 insipron 15 and when I got it that's what I got.
Solution for me anyway was to take out 1 of the memory modules. It must have been bad cause it works fine now.
Also I kept getting the not recognizing the ac adaptor too. I used another one and got the same error.
So as long as it worked on the ac adapter I was ok. So started looking up on ebay for the original ac adapter, because the one I got with is a replacement. But it works perfect now
I just let it for a few days and it started charging all by itself.
I don't know if this will work for all of u but it did for me after I put everything back in.
Also if have to take yours apart and this part they don't tell u cause I had to look it up on youtube.
U have to take the keyboard off first. To get to the memory hard drive and everything else.It is fun too cause u have to get the tabs at the top to pop off without breaking a letter off the keyboard.
Also I learned the hard way u have have to take the keyboard out to get to anything under it. I got mine in pieces and the keyboard was not out and I broke the power switch button and had to get a new one.
I hope this helps anyone else out there. I was about to give it away and very glad I did not.
Oh I forgot to mention each time u take it apart please remember to remove the battery as well as the power adapter. Also some of the guys said to hold the power button down for 5 secs too to discharge the internal battery.
