Hello all-

I reinstalled Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron laptop, and though I downloaded and installed all the drivers listed at Dell's support page, the ethernet isn't working and the drivers can't be found.  Does anyone have hints on where the correct drivers might be?

I am unable to boot my dell Laptop. Every time i press the on button it is redirecting to Dell direct

media. I am using windows vista OS. Some times when i tried to on the laptop by removing the

battery it works but when i restart the system again it is re-directing to Dell direct media.

Please help me to resolve the issue.

Does the CPU fan spin during the initial phase of running diagnostics i.e. F12 at boot ?

By that I mean before the colour bars appear.

I have a laptop that has at times had the picture/display go funny. By that I mean the display goes like an old tv did when it went bad.  The picture`s horizontal and vertical are bad and pic rolls! I have to force shutdown to get it back! please help. I`ve had this pc new since May of 2012.

After landing one of these last year, and restoring it with working parts, I learned about the thermal issues firsthand.

At this point, I can ***DEFINITIVELY*** state that the problem had nothing to do with motherboards, as some stated Dell was supplying replacement motherboards when these were still being supported.

The problem is the poorly made heatsink assembly, and the fact that the GPU was not contacting the heat pipe, but just a shelf on the frame for the heat pipe, and even then only via a thermal pad.

This heatsink assembly requires manual adjustment to get it to lay flat on the dies.  The GPU section ***REQUIRES*** a copper shim.

Doing the above will improve temperatures, but the real key is in the Thermal Interface Material chosen for the job.

I was still getting hot, but improved, temperatures after doing the above, and using Arctic MX-4 for the TIM.  This is what got me suspecting the heatsink assembly itself.

I this past weekend, redid it as follows:

Northbridge: Phobya Ultra thermal pad (5W/mk, 1mm thick).

CPU: Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra

GPU: painted CLU on die, placed lapped copper shim on die, painted top of copper shim with CLU.

The end result is in Prime95 Large FFT (max heat generation), the CPU cores on a T9600 never exceed 82C (I still suspect it isn't perfectly flat on the die), and the GPU never exceeding 81C, while running a SETI@home enhanced (Lunatics) cuda workload on the GPU simultaneous with the Prime95 workload on both CPU cores.

On a more mundane workloads, averages are in the 60's with both the seti workunit crunching on the GPU, and DivX Author converting Captain America 2.

This same laptop would produce mid-upper 90's, with the previous configuration using Arctic MX-4 with good contact on the CPU, and copper shim.

This definitively shows that it was poor heatsink design.  Once the same heatsink is properely shaped, and thermal barriers removed, there is nothing wrong with the motherboard.

So far after several days, there is no degradation of the "shelf" on the heat pipe frame for the GPU.  I will keep an eye on that, and report back after a month if it still has no degradation.  I would think that if it was aluminum, it would have degraded by now.

I received an email from Dell Technical Updates today, telling me to go to a link and download "the SENSOR HUB Firmware upgrade" for my Inspiron 7347.  After the download I extracted the zip file and executed the exe file.  I got a message that reads "Please install the .NET 4.5.51641 Framework, then restart this update application".  OK, I'll do that if I can locate that download reliably.  I have looked around.  Where is it?

i have recently installed fresh OS onto m15x area 51 alienware laptop and have no lights anywhere, i have read many other forums to no success, after running all diagnostics my computer is finding the lighting hardware but in the alienfx command centre there is no options to even change colour options, i keep getting the usual .net framework error and am at a loss was suppost to be selling the laptop tomorrow

My new Dell laptop seems to have booting problem in that it boots,ask for password,opens Start page. On clicking the Desktop icon it switches off-in that the screen goes off,comes up on its own after about 1 minute, and ask for password again.

also it seems to be very slow and the cursor hangs.Currently of the 500GB i have not used even 1GB yet it runs slowly and hangs.

Anyone with solution idea?

My Dell 15 7000 laptop wont charge or even use the power cords power while its powered on. But it does charge when it's shut down. What could be causing this? 

What I mean is, that when I plug in the power-pack cord, it shows the "plugged in" icon on the battery, then it simply shows the battery icon only. For some reason it will not draw power from the power pack and uses the battery only. But when I power off my laptop, it charges the battery.

We have 3 E5450s and none of them survives being encrypted by McAfee EE 7. Long story short, after encryption the system refuses to boot.

The machines are 100% fine, passing any hw test you can throw at them, and McAfee themselves claim their software supports the platform.

McAfee thinks an issue in the BIOS code, similar to one detected on a Sony machine last year, is the reason the machines fails encryption and refers to this KB:

Now - where does one raise a support ticket with Dell regarding Bios code?

Anyway - if you have one of these machines, use Dell KACE for OS deployment - stay away from McAfee EE.

hi there

i own a dell vostro 3450 and its been a couple of days since my laptop won't start. On start up it just gives 2 beeps and nothing else happens except the beeps repeat periodically. No display or sounds of the fan turning .  
specifications:

1x4 Gb ddr3 ram 

2 ddr3 ram slots
intel core i5-2450m processor

dell a10 bios 

on checking beep codes at 

it said 2 for "no memory/ram detected" .

I haven't ever changed the ram and everything was working fine till suddenly it dint work. Then i checked the ram compartments and found nothing wrong. Even changing the slot didn't work.

any help would be gladly appreciated.

I uninstalled "Search Protect," but I still get a black screen when I sign in to my laptop. It also happens when I am on the internet. When I am doing anything on the internet all of sudden my laptop shuts down. Then when I push power and it comes on with a black screen. I have to shut off and turn on three or four times. What can I do to fix my laptop?

I have inspiron 15 buyed from US . I haven't set the BIOS password. My hard drive was crashed yesterday. The dell service center says they need the BIOS password in order to run some reports of my laptop. How can I recover/reset the BIOS password ?  Without this they are saying they can't replace my hard drive. My laptop is under warranty.

I am Shobhit Chaurasia, a student at IIT Guwahati and an owner of Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop. Recently, the battery of my laptop died. Given that my laptop is out of warranty, I purchased a new battery from a dealer. Being aware of the growing concern of e-waste disposal, I decided not to dump my battery in municipal waste bins or give it to the local scrap-dealer. From my institute, I went 20 KM to the main city in the hope of dropping off the dead battery at authorized Dell centers for free. I was under the impression that Dell promotes environment friendly measures and services. However, my perception was shattered when all the three Dell authorized dealers I visited refused to take back the dead battery. This comes even after I told them that I was not expecting any money in exchange; rather I was just hoping to dispose of the battery in the proper manner. I was repeatedly told that it is not an eco-friendly zone and that I should just dump it in the municipal trash bins.

Despite the fact that electronic companies are mandated by the government to enforce proper disposal and recycling of e-waste, and given the unfortunate lack of awareness among the masses regarding legitimate e-waste disposal practices, Dell should be in the vanguard of environment sensitization. At a time when Dell is expected to educate its customers of e-waste disposal and encourage such practices by offering attractive deals in exchange of e-waste, Dell's neglect towards the same comes off as a huge let down. I wasted 3 hours in commuting to and from my place of residence and 2 hours visiting the Dell centers to return a dead battery for recycling purposes but all my efforts went in vain.

This post is intended to be my last resort to finding a feasible way to dispose of the dead battery. Could you please share the details of Dell centers in Guwahati area (Assam, India) which accept Dell related e-waste? Are there any pick-up services offered by Dell for the same? Please do not disappoint me by responding with "an emphatic apology for the inconvenience caused and Dell's unfortunate inability to provide e-waste disposal services in India"; I am determined to take the matter to higher levels should the need arise.

When on the before game mode of LoL, the left and right buttons work so I can start and choose a game. But when on the match itself, the pointer can move but I can't click using the left and right buttons.

Hi

I'm after a laptop stand for a Vostro 3560.

I cannot find anything on the Dell site for this, nor can I find a compatible stand.

We need one that will sit on a desk and raise the laptop up to eye-level. It will need to be portable and adjustable.

Does anyone know of a compatible product, please?
