My new Latitude 3440 touchpad does not have the "old" horizontal/vertical scroll zones that I have had on earlier Dells.  This machine has Windows 7, and the Dell Latitude 3000-series technical guidebook indicates that scroll zones are "supported (disabled by default)" under Windows 7 and not supported in Windows 8.  How can I enable this feature (I'm hoping it can be done with a simple driver replacement) so that I can scroll using a single finger?

Corollary questions--is this 1-finger gesture technique going to be extinct once someone pries Windows 7 out of my hands?  If it is not supported on any machines with Windows 8 (and 10 in the future), might I be better off learning to live with the multiple finger gestures instead?  thx

So I recently found out that Dell has released a Power Companion (battery pack) that can be used with some of their laptops and mobile devices:

 

The battery pack showed up recently, along with the newly released XPS 13

Personally I am intrested in the power companion, and if it's compatible with my XPS 12, I will get it. But my question is, is it actually compatible?

I think it does, but I wanna be sure before I get one. Does anyone know for sure if they are compatible?
I looked up on Dell's website, and it didn't mention the XPS 12 with the compatibility list, but then again, one of Dell's pages about this battery pack thing didn't even list the XPS 13 with the other compatible devices and I am sure that it works with that.

I would be grateful if someone from Dell, or anyone who has tried the battery with the XPS 12, can confirm or deny if they work together.

I cannot start any process without delay and am having a hard time figuring out why my newly used labtop keeps glitching while playing videos, games, music, etc. I have used this labtop maybe 2 times since it was bought brand new, mostly just to play music. I have tried Microsoft essentials already and have deleted anything that I have put on this device. Im really frustrated at this point and am wondering what other options do I have?? Any advice is welcomed. Thank you

I have a Studio 1749 laptop that will not power up. It starts to (lights come on) but then it powers off itself with 5-10 seconds. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I purchased my M6800 last spring. I set up when I got it but haven't have a chance to use my new computer.  I turned it on periodical but didn't load any software other then what come with it.

Today I turned my M6800 and received a message that it couldn't find petition.  I clicked o the enter key and it went to windows login. I got the same message each time I turned the computer.  At one point in time I was asked if I wanted to do a restore. 

When I turned the computer, The was a message screen that said "configuring windows updates percent complete do not turn your computer off"  The percentage was increasing until it got to 67% and then it froze at 67%. However the circular icon still showed that the update was still working.

I could sure use some advise.  I didn't want to turn it off.

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook from a local computer shop. I know its an older model but it was one of their demo units and in excellent condition.

First, I was wondering if I can get the warranty reset on the this computer. I checked the service tag and the Dell Support website reported the warranty as being expired. Considering the computer has been in possession of the shop the entire time, I'm hoping this can be handled. If not, I understand.

My main issue however, is that in resetting the laptop, I mistakenly removed the RAID setup between the 500 GB HDD and the 32 GB SSD. Now I am unsure of how to setup the RAID 0 configuration so I can take advantage of the Intel Rapid Start and Smart Response features the hardware supports. I also no longer access the Option ROM at boot. I have the Dell recovery media (Windows 8 DVD + driver disk) so I can setup the OS again once I get the RAID configuration, but I am very unsure how to proceed with configuring the RAID 0 on this system.

While watching a video, my laptop got stuck and had to do a hard-shutdown (press power for 5-6 secs). Tried switching on the laptop after 2-3 hours. The screen was black and I could hear only the fan sound. Tried switching on after several hours, but in vain.

I did a system diagnosis (Fn + Power On), and heard 7 beeps (continuously) a long pause, and 7 beeps again. 

Please help me diagnose further. Thanks.

Hello Every one,

My name is Wahaj from Karachi, Pakistan,

I recently bought a used DELL LATITUDE E-5420 from my cousin. The issue is that he lost the back up media or let say the original Windows 7 & Driver CD that comes with the laptop. I have downloaded the drivers but I couldn't find any thing on Dell website from where I could download copy of Windows that works with the Serial TAG on my laptop.

I even Tried to Email or contact the Dell support but whenever I enter service tag or put it on auto scan so that it detect my laptop and proceed me to Dell support, it always gives me an error "laptop not detected".

In short, how I can get a original Dell Windows CD for my laptop ?

The original spec on the laptop was 2x1GB.

As it was crashing to Blue screen of death about 1 startup in 3, probably running out of RAM, I got a 2x4GB matched set from crucial, the recommended RAM upgrade for the laptop.

After adding the new memory only 1 stick was recognised according to the windows control panel setting - so 4GB instead of 8.

I've switched the sticks around, installed each stick on its own (the laptop found each, so they are both O.K.), and put the old ones back in (the laptop identified both), so 2GB.

As both sticks seem to be O.K., and the machine identifies both old sticks there must be something else going on.

It's runnong Windows 7 Home premium edition, on a 64-bit machine, so should be able to handle up to 16GB.

Any ideas anybody?

l have a dell inspiron 3521 running windows 8, it began when the computer would turn on but crush with a blue screen of death. l ran diagnostic check which gave an error code : 2000-0122 memory errors detected. Limit exceeded additional errors will not be resolved. slot JDIMM1.

l changed the ram from the bottom slot to the top slot after that l switched on the machine and it began giving me a beeping sound, l counted the sounds and the amount to 4 with one loud beep followed by 3 low toned beeps. Can someone help?

Hi this is my first post on this forum and unfortunately im in need of some real help.

I have a DELL XPS 17 L702X laptop have had it for about 7 months traded my downstairs neighbor my playstation 3 for it never had a problem untill one night came homge hit the power button and the laptop hit me with 8 BEEPS 2 AT A TIME WITH A TOTAL OF 8 BEEPS AND THE SCREEN STAYED OFF BLACK, then after the last beep the laptop turned off all together.

And I did search for this issue on here and read the post posted by

CGHitman14 which is actually the same problem ive went through and tried everything he did or what was suggested to him EXCEPT ANYTHING THAT NEEDED ME TO OPEN THE LAPTOP UP SUCH AS SEEING IF THE CONNECTION TO THE SCREEN WAS UNPLUGGED, im not too familiar with opening up laptops and everything but seeing that his problem was fixed because that connection was unplugged id like to see if thats my problem if anyone could help me through how to look for that.

Other info that might be useful

*the fan and everything does turn on when I hit the power button but everything shuts down after the last beep.

*Once in awhile when the laptop was working the screen sometimes would dim down alot "Enough to make me wonder if it was normal" maybe after I unplugged it from the charger but only for a few seconds then it would go back to normal.

I just re-installed Windows 7 64 bit on my new Inspiron 15. After letting windows install all the drivers it could find I went to the Dell downloads site and installed the bios, drivers and applications that were listed. I found a Webcam Central file recommendation on this forum and installed that. Everything device I know I have seems to work, though I haven't tried the HDMI port yet.  Even when booting without anything plugged in to any of the 3 USB ports I still have  this one device without a driver.  See the screen shot. What am I missing?

Hi all. I just bought the Alienware 18 and I am looking for a laptop sleeve that will fit it for added protection when I shove it in my vindicator briefcase bag. I have located a couple that are known to fit the old M18x. Does anyone know if these two laptops have the same dimensions? If not, which is bigger and by how much?

Also, I'm open to any tips on what sleeves are available for the Alienware 18 (other than Amazon because they only offer 2 choices and one is questionable and the other takes too long for shipping). Thanks.

Btw its not a certain number of beeps its endless till I shut it off. Theres about 5 seconds between each beep.

It has started up very rarely but then after about 5-10 minutes it will shut off a beep

Please help.

My new Dell laptop loses internet connection about every five minutes. Can't even run a diagnostic. It just started a few days ago. iPod & Toshiba laptop have no issues. Any suggestions?
