Inspiron 11 3147 won't boot up

As of today feb 7th 2015, my inspiron 11 lap top will no longer go to the sign on screen. When I did get to the log on screen for that would be the last time, I typed in my password, hit enter then I got a message saying something along the lines of something wasn't there and the log in couldn't be completed. I was logged out and now all i get is a black screen. I can adjust the light, volume and so on using the keyboard, I see the volume or brightness bar on the screen when I do, but that's it. I can't log in. This lap top is only a year old and I baby it. I use it only for school. I do not do anything else on it. I do all else on my desktop system. I ran the diagnostic and it came back all good. What should I do? Is this a common error with a fix?

motherboard change

I have an old xps m2010, the really big laptop. They don't make things like this anymore. The systme is slow and hindered by todays standards. I want to know if anyone might know of a current, relatively, motherboard that would fit the m2010 chasis? I know it would not be  an exact match to the ports but close enough to run might be just as good.

This made me in trouble on important work.

Dell Inspiron 3542 Faulty Touchpad Solution

I own a Dell 3542, and I was really heartbroken when I experience that it's Touchpad freezes in between. So, I made a complaint about the problem & the Dell technician had visited my home & replaced the Hardware.

But the problem had arose again & this time I got very frustrated & visited the Service center. They recommended me to deposit the Laptop, then they will Completely format the System & will see that If the problem has gone or what?.

They did it, but unfortunately the problem didn't vanishes.

After that, I installed Win 8.1 PRO, & I decided NOT TO INSTALL THE TOUCHPAD DRIVER. Hoping that this will solve the Problem.

And Fortunately it did. I was surprised that touchpad is working normal without the driver. And I will recommend all the Dell 3542 user with the same problem to-

1) Format the system completely.

2) Install Windows.

3) DO NOT INSTALL THE TOUCHPAD DRIVER.

I hope this will solve the problem & make sure that your system is having the latest BIOS.

AMD Athlon (tm) 64x2

Dual-Core Processor TK-55

798 MHz, 896 MB of Ram

Physical Address Extension

Microsoft Office 2007

This is my first time posting in any forums like this, so please, forgive me if it's not in the right place, or if I have left anything out. I will try adding as much information as possible in hopes someone can help. For me, it is kind of urgent. I have a 6:00 P.M. deadline on Monday (tomorrow), and here it is 10:30 A.M., Sunday.

I bought a used Dell Inspiron 1721 last week, and they made it known it was running pretty slow / freezing up at times. The laptop, when purchased brand new, had Windows Vista installed on it, and before selling it to me, the woman installed Windows XP Professional 2002. I do not have the disc for either of these. I was wanting to restore to factory settings, but haven't had any luck. I have tried F8 and ctrl + F11, along with every other combination of "F's," and again, I have yet to get an option to restore my computer. Also, none of the Restore Points for an earlier time will work.

Next, I went to My Computer > Clicked "Recovery (D:)" > Clicked on "Tools" > Clicked "PC Restore" > the pop up box came up which said "Welcome to Dell Factory Image Restore" > Clicked "Next" to continue > another box came up that said "Confirm Data Deletion" > Checked "Yes" and pressed "Next" > the box came up which said, "Performing Factory Image Restore," and the process began > when the blue progress bar got approximately 1/4 of the way done, it stops, and an error box appears. There is no other information in this box, just an option to click "ok," and the box disappears, and the whole process stops.

Please, please help! Thank you so very much in advance!

I'm trying to access a new Win7 desktop from the old Win7 desktop which is already networked to a couple of other of our home computers.  In Windows Explorer, when I click on the new computer it asks for a Network Password but I don't believe there is one.  Any thoughts please?  Thanks, pepper

Dell M1710 laptop

I just bought an XPS M1710 laptop via eBay.  I  know that...when it came out...it was considered a "gamer" machine, but I'm just going to use it mostly for word processing and internet surfing.  Is there some way I can turn off all the extra red lights that (I suppose) were included to help the computer look "cool" when it came out?  I know that a lot of users like that, and want a computer to have a little extra "flash".   But I'd rather turn off the unneeded lights to save power usage.  Is there a way to do that?

What can I do to fix this. Tried removing ac and battery and pressing power for 15 seconds tried fn + power button, this also doesn't work and tried d with power, didn't work. Please help!!

Bulging battery?

0

My trackpad was popping up, Dell indicated that it was an issue I had caused.  So, I popped open the bottom and took a look (I have been working on hardware for many years).  Upon opening the bottom cover, the issue was obviously not a problem with the trackpad.  All 6 cells of the battery were bulging significantly and pushing up on all of the internals.  Frankly, I freaked out a bit since I travel for a living and have had this battery on a number of plane flights (and in my packpack, pointed at my back)!

Dell Tech Support indicated that because the battery "tested OK" in the diagnostics that there was not an issue.  They indicated it was fine to use as-is and just ignore the bulging.  They also indicated that there would be no warranty discussion since my system is just over 415 days since shipping.

I ended up purchasing a refurbished battery (apparently they don't have new ones to sell) and am hoping it shows up before any further issues happen.  I am leaving my system at home for the next few trips just to be safe, which means I am using another vendor's laptop for work.

Anyone have an experience with bulging battery?  Am I taking this too seriously?  Dell seems to think it isn't an issue, so maybe I am worrying about nothing.

Sadly, this perspective is causing me to rethink our next purchases.  We have been loyal Dell enthusiasts for nearly 20 years, but now I am not so sure....

Dell Latitude 5420 boots up into Windows but no screen

I tried some of the troubleshooting steps that you suggested on this forum to isolate the issue:

I drained the flea power (shutdown system, remove battery and unplug adapter. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. That will discharge the residual electricity from the system board)

Remove the memory module/s and push the power button to start. Check if the mother board beeps

Motherboard didn’t beep

This could also be an issue with the video card. If possible please connect an external desktop monitor and switch the display by pressing Fn and F8. This will help us isolate if the issue is with video card.

With external display connected – saw Windows desktop of the laptop!

Installed latest version of BIOS.

Screen still doesn't work.

Where is the problem – with the video card or with motherboard?

When I run a different hard drive with Linux Light installed on it – the computer boots up into Linux Lite with the screen works and continues to work for many hours….

Inspiron 7737 Keyboard issues since Windows Upgrade

0
0

I've had my Inspiron for less than a week and it was working perfectly until I installed the prompted window upgrade.  Sine then the hardware keyboard responds with completely different behaviour than you would expect for example;

3 and L don't work at all (along with many other keys),

5 actually types a 1,

X turns flight mode on and off,

Caps lock works but shift doesn't,

C turns flight ode on but won't turn it off.

It doesn't appear to be related to sticky keys or any of the ease of access options.  I only have Uk English set up as languages.  I tried refreshing all the drivers I can locate and performed a system refresh.

The OSK works fine but that'd of limited use really and I am obviously frustrated with the timing as I would expect a new system to be free of these sorts of issues!

Any other ideas? I'd rather not have to spend another 2 days moving files around and setting up iTunes etc so if there is a fix without having to start from scratch that would be appealing.

Thanks,

Shaun

Dell XPS 15Z Power Adapter Not Recognized

0
0

Hello,

I have a Dell XPS 15Z (L511Z) running Windows 7 Home Premium that I purchased in 2011.  Recently I started getting a warning at startup that the battery was no longer recognized.  The laptop worked fine with its AC adapter but would lose power immediately when unplugged.  I opened up the computer and reseated the battery connector, and this took care of the problem: the battery now works fine.

However, as soon as I fixed the battery issue a new problem started.  The laptop does not recognize when the AC adapter is plugged in.  It is clearly getting power from the AC adapter, because the battery never loses charge and the estimated time left on charge is currently 3072 hrs!

I've tried doing the following:

  • Switch AC adapters.  Same result with 2 different adapters.
  • Check the BIOS.  The BIOS version is A02.  Adapter warnings are enabled, charger behavior is enabled, and battery health says "This battery is performing normally."
  • Check Windows battery settings.  The "Turn Off Battery Charging" box is NOT checked.
  • Disconnect the battery from the computer and reboot with the AC adapter plugged in.  The computer boots fine and recognizes the AC adapter.
  • Reconnect the battery to the computer and reboot with the AC adapter plugged in.  The computer boots but stops recognizing the AC adapter, even though it is getting power from it.
  • Flash the BIOS.  I tried doing this but got an error saying that both the battery and AC adapter must be plugged in to flash the BIOS.  Since my problem is the system doesn't recognize the AC adapter, I'm stuck.

Any suggestions on what I can do?  I'm currently always keeping my laptop plugged in when I use it to avoid running down the battery, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a laptop.

Thanks!
