Hello everyone, i have problem with my keyboard. F buttons didnt woek without pushing FN. I want to switch it but i cant do it. I read lots of topic, but it didnt work.

I have Dell Inspiron n5010 Laptop and using Windows 7 Home basic.

People says there is 2 way to switch it. First one is windows mobility center but i use windows 7 home basic, it cant be from there.

Second option is BIOS, but i cant open BIOS settings menu. I tried too much button at the start but it didnt work. About all F buttons didnt open it. Also i tried Del button and ESC.

I really dont understand laptop systems/computers. Please answer this question easily.

I did my research before I attempted to upgrade the 4GB of RAM in my laptop.  My research told me that two 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333Mhz modules were compatible.  I purchased a set from Amazon and only one of them worked in the system.  The other module caused the system to crash right after booting.

I returned the set and recently reordered the set assuming that the first set had a bad module.  When the new set, I put both in and the system shut down during booting.  I tried each of them separately and neither of them worked.  

Any advice?  What should I be buying?  I am going to burn this laptop if I can't upgrade it.

Hello,

I have a Dell Studio XPS 1340 (mid 2010)

Windows 7 Home Premium

When I turn off the computer, it does not turn off all the time (sometimes it does, and most of the time it doesn't)
, the screen truns off like it wants to shut down, but then the computer hangs up, with the HDD disk light flashing, and it never shuts down, requiring a hard shut down.

I have not installed any new software...nothing different has happened, and I did try system restore, going back quite a ways, it did not help

Is there a way to adjust the brightness control on a Inspiron 13, 2 in 1, while in tablet mode?

I know how to adjust it using the keyboard in laptop mode but not in tablet mode.

I recently upgraded my hard drive to a larger drive.  After that I resized the partition and added a new partition for a Linux install so I can dual boot.  Everything seemed fine.  I used the system for a few weeks and then the Genuine Windows error started to pop up every day.  I ran the online thing but that didn't fix anything.  I have tried removing a suspect MS update that I read about and I installed another one that supposedly fixed the error caused by the first one.  But its still happening (just cleared the pop-up as I was typing this).  

I am assuming this is due to the hardware upgrade but I can't seem to fix it.  I need this laptop for my work and I am afraid MS will eventually impair my PC.  

Any advice is appreciated.

hi since awhile my screen use to bother me when i tried to open it more or less then 90°...from time to time it use to close down and I had to close the lead and open it again verry slowly, under 90° to be able to see the screen that was acceptable to me untill this week when this trick didn't work and now my screen is black all the time what should I do? any ideea...any contacts inside...screen to change? is this a common problem? thanks for reply

I have a 1705e/9400 and LOVE it, but, it's specs are struggling in today's environment.  It has 1.83GHz processor and 4G (3.25G useable) of RAM.  I have upgraded to a 1TB hybrid drive and a new Windows 7.

I decided to try to get a faster processor by getting another 1705e/9400.  It had a 2.16GHz processor and 4G of RAM.  The seller was running Ubuntu and claimed it ran fine.

When I received the unit, I pulled it's hard drive out and popped in my 1TB drive in, which ran perfectly in my older 1705e/9400.   

It tried to boot up but failed.  The Dell logo comes on, then it goes to a screen that says, "Windows loading files", if I remember right.  That screen disappears, goes black, then, the Dell logo screen pops back up.  It just keeps cycling through this process until I do a hard shut-down.

I switched the RAM between the two machines and it had no effect.

One thought I had was that when it tries to boot up, it shows it is has the A02 bios.  My 1TB hard drive has been upgraded to A10.  Could that be the problem?

A side from that, I have no idea what is the problem...

Any ideas out there...?

I need to find the factory installed software download files for this laptop. I can find it for all my other models, but not this one. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

My Dell Inspiron 15R 5521 is total rubbish, i have had it for less than 2 years and currently it has had 3 new hard drives and a mother board. We only use it for domestic use like the internet so it is hardly ran at the level a business laptop would be.

We have the same problem as you with constant failure to boot, so we remove the battery and wait ages and sometimes it  will come on but after having to do this several times you can guarantee the HD will go. The guys in the tech department on the phone are very good when you call but to be honest i do not have 2-3 hours a day to sit while they try to fix it.

The last excuse for the computer not working was a world wide virus on Windows 8 which was affecting every laptop !!!! This problem took the service guy 2 weeks to fix whilst he had control of the laptop.

To be honest i think in the last 2 years the laptop has been broken more often than working properly i have lost all my photos, music  and work etc.

Sorry to rant but Dell customer service dont seem to care and never reply to my mails about replacing the laptop to one that might work!!!!

So all in all i would say it is your HD !!!!

New Dell Latitude laptop-replacement for desktop. i have Toshiba external HD with files on it that show up on laptop in Devices, but I cannot see or move files on it.  External works on other computers. It's not the external harddrive. Been thru Dell, Toshiba (harddrive manufaturer whom I will never use again for anything because of lack of support) How do I make external harddrive useable? I got it specifically for this and it has all my backup! Thanks for any help. I'm getting desperate. Jann

hey,

I have a Inspiron 2350, I know that its an All-in-One but I feel this forum is the best to post it in as it uses laptop hardware. 

Over the last month my PC has been running at about 70C at idle - idle being that the cpu doesn't rise above 5% usage and no programs are open - when playing graphics intense games or high workload it doesn't overheat however and sits at about 95 as it has always done, but never cools below 70C this.

I can always hear the fan working hard and it almost never made a sound before.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright so ive seen many threads about this issue. My issues are similar bur my laptop isnt liking any of the solutions. Heres what i have:

"Realtek FB Family Controller; media test failed, check cable"

Everyone said to check my hard drive. I ran Dell diagnostics on my hard drive and it had no issues. They said to change my boot sequence to where my HDD was 1st priority. Neither of those work.

I have ran startup repair and even system restore but after letting it sit for 9hours it did nothing.

As of right now it is at the "Starting Windows" screen and has been there for about 35mins now. I got it to boot once but it didnt boot all the way a.k.a it was very very slow, i couldn't click on anything, nothing loaded when i double clicked on it. Restarted it and havent gotten that far since.

Just to make sure about the HDD i grabbed a  spare HDD i had and put it in. Same issue. Ran diagnostics on it as well and no issues.

I dont have the boot disc or repair discs the laptop came with. And i have no clue how to make a boot disc/usb

Im out of ideas can anyone help me???????

Hi,

We buy a lot of Dell equipment in. Recently the power supplies for laptop docks jumped from 2.5amps to 3.5amps. As I know the old power units work fine I was wondering if anyone knows the reason for this?

Hey peeps, I've been using my laptop (INSPIRON N5010) for almost 5 years now. A week ago when I tried turning it on, I heard 13 beeps at the beginning which then turned to 8 beeps and kept going. Screen was completely blank. I've already googled it a couple of times and people suggest hold the D/Fn key and press the power button but it doesn't work in my case. I've also tried connecting it to a different monitor, same problem. Any ideas whether it's LCD, VGA or motherboard problem and/or how to fix it? Thanks in advance

hi.i dropped my laptop and boke the screen.i have replaced the screen but the display is dim.when i try to turn the brightness up or down using the fn keys the brightness flickers up and down,on both the  keys,as if i was pressing the same one.even then the brightnessis not as it should be.has anyone got a clue please.

I just picked up 3 E5520 laptops, and they have never had a BIOS upgrade.  When I try to use any of the BIOS files on the Support page for this model, I get a message that I must have BIOS version A02 installed.  Can anyone point me to the A02 BIOS update?  I assume it is in the old format and needs to be installed manually.  Thanks.

Got a new XPS 13 - nice machine, but it defaults to two finger scrolling and my head is firmly set at one-finger! I can't see anywhere that I can change this? Help?

I'm looking to buy a 1440p 60Hz monitor (the 25" Ultrasharp U2515H), to hook up to my Dell XPS15 L502x (GT525m). I would like to use the mini Display Port on the laptop, connecting to the monitor via a miniDP-DP cable.

My questions:

- Does my laptop even support this resolution output

- Does my laptop support audio over DP, for use of the audio jack out on the monitor

I am well aware this setup would impact performance, meaning playing even somewhat demanding video games (due to GPU limitations) will not be possible. My goal with this setup is increasing office task productivity.

Hey Everyone,

So every once in a while the internet will shut off by itself when my computer goes into sleep mode. What I mean by shut off is that the laptop cannot detect the wireless card at all. It becomes just gone no matter how I try to detect it. I've tried upgrading the driver. Nothing works.

Any ideas how to fix?
