Hello, Matt here.
For about a year now, maybe longer, my Dell Studio 1558 Laptop has been having screen problems. I have tried sifting through forums, but could not find an exact match to my problem.
Long story, short, my screen would freeze, (not the computer itself). Before, I would just give a little jerk to it,(the top half) and it would pop right back on, no problem. It could go hours and hours, days and days on end without skipping a beat but every once in a while it would freeze ( most of the time if I moved it, NOT on it's own), start to fade white, and I would jerk it back to normal again.
This happened again yesterday but a simple jerk would not fix the display. Luckily, I have a trillion things to do before school ends next Thursday.
For a while, I played around with it (as in jerking it hard under anger) and every once in a while I would get the display back (just for a millisecond) before it faded to white again. For that millisecond, though, all colors and picture was perfect before fading.
As for the HDMI/VGA external ports, both work perfectly and have a great picture. (Not sure if that means the motherboard is intact, or all ports run off of different terminals from the board)
I consider myself to be tech-savvy so I decided to investigate further into the computer. After taking it apart, I have the LCD/LED (not sure which) out completely. Before compete removal though, I actually turned it on with the help of a friend and jiggled the wire while she held the screen up. (Don't tell me I'm dumb because I already know) The display shot on once for that millisecond but after 10 minutes of jiggling all over, I couldn't get it back again.
I went online and ordered a new cable (from above keyboard to screen) for my specific computer and that should be here by Tuesday (expedited) If that doesn't solve the solution, the screen itself is my next purchase.
This morning, I decided that since I'm getting a new cable, I will expose the old one and see if there were any deficiencies. After removing the gray tape located near the computer side of the cable, I noticed a bluish wire hanging all by itself coming from the computer side of the cable but no disconnection on the other side. After ripping it apart some more, I realized at the bottom,(computer side) another bluish wire is looping back into the computer. (from the computer side looped back to the computer side in literally a little loop.) I wasn't sure if maybe the wire I found disconnected was also supposed to be looped back into the computer side (just like the other one)
I am looking for EXPERT or near-expert opinions as to verify my problem, or discredit my diagnosis. I will be very quick to respond to any questions or concerns as this is very time-sensitive.
Also, my warranty expired in 2012 LOL
I decided to come here because the experts seem like they know what they're talking about so thank you guys!
