and completely get rid of HDD
i have a laptop that does not have dvd-rom
but i have OS from dell.
is there anyway i can fresh install windows 8.1 on my laptop?
i've done some research and it says i cannot use windows 8.1 iso from microsoft.
it has to be dell version of Windows 8.1.
i'm truly confused

My uncle has a Dell Inspiron 1545 with 3Gb RAM, 160 Gb HD and Windows Vista Home Premium.
On boot up there is an error message stating that a back up should be performed immediately as the hard drive has a serious problem.
The good news is that I managed to make a clone of the 160 Gb HD to a 1000 Gb HD (Western Digital Blue) using Paragon software before the original drive failed. The bad news is that the cloning process stopped at 42%, but this 42% included the recovery partition and another part of the HD called Dell Utility.
I installed the cloned WD drive and pressed F8 on boot up, but the advanced boot menu did not appear. Instead I get the error message 'no bootable devices'.
I ran the diagnostics program using F5. All the tests were completed and 'passed'. The BIOS recognizes the new drive as 1000 Gb.
Question: how do I boot the laptop? My uncle does not have any recovery media.

I have an Alienware Mx14R2 , I've used the option to disable the touchpad internal point device while a USB mouse is present for years, but recently my laptop doesn't recognize that my mouse has been removed.
What I've tried so far:
1.) I've re installed my synaptic software drivers from dell's support page and rebooted. No luck
2.) I've uninstalled the synaptic driver and rebooted and re installed and rebooted. Still no luck
3. I've removed the Alienware command center and synaptic driver and rebooted installed the synaptic driver, rebooted, and re installed the Command Center, still no luck.
Also to note I have no other USB device inserted at the time. Even when the USB mouse is removed and select the option in my mouse control panel options to disable the touchpad it immediately disables it.
Anything else I can do?
I currently have 8GB of memory can I upgrade if so what do I need
Hello Everyone , I am Saurabh , I am having a serious problem with my laptop Inspiron 3521.
when i turn ON , it will show black and the running starts and suddenly stop... and in few seconds, the screen will be black and i have to press again the power button!!
I have already troubleshot it and by troubleshot it deletes all the updates even my win 8.1 and again start with win 8 .

Ok, I have been doing a LOT of reading about the issues with the Dell 1545 laptop. I to have the strange issue. Just at random times, my laptop will not power on.I have just walked away and came back to it after a couple hrs. Works fine. Usually for several days. Then it does it again. I have even had times when I would shut the laptop down and press the power button to power it right back on. Nothing happens. Other times its fine.
Yes I followed directions. I replaced the power adapter. Didn't help. Replaced the battery. Didn't help. I replaced the charging port inside the laptop. Didn't help. I replaced the power button on top. Didn't help. Replaced the charger port again just in case. Didn't help.
Dell techs, have you ever figured out what the real cause is for this?
I have a strange problem right now with my Precision M4500 laptop[8Gb Elpida 1333Mhz DDR3 RAM, 500Gb WD Black HD, Core i5@2.67Ghz]. I had wiped the hard drive by overwriting it with ones and zeroes. I then re-installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on the hard drive. I proceeded to install the necessary drivers in the order that Dell recommended. And I updated the BIOS to A15, if I'm remembering right. Unfortunately the USB 2.0 ports on either side of the laptop do not work. I tried uninstalling each port in Device Manager and then reinstalling, with no luck. I tried updating the drivers on the USB hubs and that didn't work. I tried updating the chipset drivers, but that didn't help the USB 2.0 port connectivity issue. So now I"m a bit frustrated to say the least. Does any one have any additional suggestions for things to try?
Oh yeah, I also tried to cycle the ports by connecting it up to a PR03X docking station and then disconnecting it. That didn't work either.
A further note: The USB ports seem to have at least some amount of power running through them, as I can hook up my USB powered Thermaltake laptop cooler to it and it the fan and blue LED light come one once connected.
I it possible to change out the wifi card to add 5g wifi to the Dell 3520? If so what card.

I get this everytime that I start the computer up. The battery is 100% charged. The computer is no longer under warranty. Does anyone know how a little old lady can fix this? It shows that this is a critical error, but the computer seems to be functioning well other than the BLUE SCREEN of panic!

Today I received a Dell XPS L502X laptop from a friend. The problem is that the keyboard has varying degrees of failure. When I first turned it on, it started spamming one key as if I had held it down the entire time. I couldn't even get past the Windows login password screen (although I couldn't see the character that was spammed, although I have reason to believe it was H). The issue even persists in the BIOS, as I just hear lots of beeping. No other keys would work either, not even Fn.
So I looked up a couple guides and it turns out removing the keyboard is actually really simple, and even better, it's separate from the trackpad, which works just fine. I disconnected and then reconnected the keyboard, and it stopped spamming the key, but then it didn't work at all.
I disconnected the keyboard and left it that way while I popped in my Windows 8 install disc and tried to boot it up, however it ran into an error (0xc000000f) on startup, so I reconnected the keyboard and tried it again to the same result. Booting back into Windows 7 again, I found that the spamming has started once again.
Might it be a connection issue? Or is the entire keyboard just broken? The only way I was able to get into the BIOS or Boot Menu was through a USB keyboard, and I didn't see any options in there related to the internal keyboard. The friend I received it from had gotten it from another relative, so I don't exactly have a lot of info on it (whether it was water damaged or not, etc.). Any help would be vastly appreciated.

I thought that since it was being bought new, that everything was legitimate inside the computer......But apparently i was wrong......
I had a problem with my windows program, and had to reinstall the product key for windows 7. then i was told my key was not valid, and asked to visit the Microsoft web site to resolve the issue......When i did, they wanted me to buy a key for it........
I called Dell support, and guess what.....The support tech only wanted to sell me a warranty on my computer.....Nothing was settled.....Leaving me basically with a pirated copy of windows 7. With this being the case, this will be my last DELL purchase.....
I expected more then this from Dell especially with their reputation.......

Hi to all, my problem of bluetooth right after the reformat of my Laptop.
The bluetooth works as ff:
1. Can detect any device.
2. Can send pictures nor Documents to other device.
3. Can add any device.
But my problem was I cant receive any pictures nor documents from my mobile phone or to any sending device.
I already check my Device Manager, i fully install all the possible drivers because the device manager is clean.
Please help me this matter... I really need my bluetooth to be fully function for my business. Thank you
I have spent two days reading forums & trying to follow suggestions. I have gotten a new battery (prior to finding out it might not be the problem), reconnected the power cord/adapter and did a bios update. Bios still says adapter is "unknown". Battery (new one) reads at 41% (& holding), the old one at 37%. Is there anything else I can do? Another way to charge the battery?
I haven't found my exact problem in the forums, so here it is... I bought my Inspiron used & have been personalizing it. I don't know if I deleted some part of Aero by mistake while cleaning house (so to speak) or what, but apparently the only "themes" that will work are the Classic & High Contrasts. They 'hide' any pic that I put up as wallpaper I only know it's there because it flashes during shutdown. What can I do? I'm not so concerned about the themes, but want my choice of wallpaper up, not a plain black/white/or blue screen. I don't have the installation disc. Everything was supposedly reset to factory settings (I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary (at least that I recognize). It worked fine for the first couple days, then just went bye bye. [:'(]
