Dell XPS M1530 battery - 78% available (plugged in, not charging)

Greetings,

I have just found a bizarre issue with my battery.
Here it is:
My Dell XPS M1530 (Windows 7 HPremium 64bit - BIOS A12) battery stops charging at 78% - 78% available (plugged in, not charging).
I can use it and recharge but always up to 78% (see above).
I have tried several solutions (removing battery, uninstall Microsoft ACPI, etc) in vain.

I was wondering whether it could be 'normal' situation (something kindly prevent the charging to the maximum level to preserve battery life) or is it an abnormal case?

I use the laptop mainly on AC adapter.

I will deeply appreciate any kind suggestion.
Thank you in advance.

Black Screen

I am working on an old laptop, not sure how old.  It is a Model PP22L  It is an Inspiron 1521.  The screen went black.  No picture.  Thought it was the monitor, but when it first starts to boot you can see the Dell Splash Screen for all of 1-2 seconds and then the screen goes black.  The lights are all on indicating the computer is on, but I can't see a thing to know if it is booting at all.  I tried plugging an outside monitor into it and nothing shows up on that monitor, which kind of indicates to me that it isn't the monitor.  I'm thinking the hard drive has gone bad. Does anyone know where i can buy a hard drive that would be returnable if that isn't the issue here?

DESPERATE FOR HELP! Cannot sign onto internet from the Desktop screen. Only can sign on from the Start Menu screen.

DESPERATE FOR HELP! I am so tired of this issue. This has been going on since I bought the computer 2 years ago. The support people at Dell won't help me unless I pay a couple hundred dollars for their support.

I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop computer. It's running Windows 8 (which I hate). I cannot access the internet when I'm over on the Desktop screen. I can only access the internet when I click on the link for it that's located on the Start Menu screen. So any link that I click on in an email ...... I cannot open because it pulls from the internet icon on the Desktop screen NOT the internet connection icon from the Start Menu screen. What sense does that make?! It doesn't to me but I've been dealing with this since I owned the computer. There is some connection that is not set up right. I always get a "page cannot be displayed".

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!

Thank you,

Kathy

I am also experiencing this problem and I've got the spacer which someone suggested would help. I need to turn the power off and then on again, and then the monitor lights up. There have been many people weighing in with this issue, but I see it is still classified as not resolved. Any late breaking fixes?

Thank  you.

My inspiron n7010 just beeps. As far as I can tell there is no consistent beep. 8...9.....8.....8.....8.......1.  Then it stops. Blank screen. No idea. It did this for a while then good from time to time. Now nothing but beeps and blank screen. I thought maybe unseated RAM. Checked that and I'm good. Any suggestions?

How to get into the advanced startup menu?

Hello. I have Inspiron 15Z and I have a problem. I've installed a driver for Windows 7 (I have Windows 8) and after the installation, the wizard wanted me to reboot my PC. I clicked yes and after reboot I could only see the Dell logo (the "loading dots" under the logo don't appear. I can see only the dell logo) and after 30 seconds it shows me a bluescreen with message "Your PC needs to be repaired". I turned off my PC and turned it on again. I was trying to get into the advanced startup menu by pressing F8/Ctrl+F8/Shift/F5 but the only thing I got after pressing F8 was : Preparing for automatic repair and then information about trying to find problems and then it says says that I can try to restore my computer to the last point when the PC was working correctly. I press "Restore" and again I see the Dell logo without text and anything. It just stands at this moment and nothing happens.

I wanted to get into the advanced startup menu because I wanted to run the Dell Backup and Recovery from there but I can't get in it.

Is there any method to access the startup menu or to access the Dell Backup and Recovery?

I have no CD with the operating system. I got no CDs with my computer.

getting wireless network adapter error after re-install of vista on xps1530

Can't connect to the internet because of the error.

"This computer does not have a wireless netowkr adapter installed and configured. Install wireless networking hardware and verify that the correct drivers are loaded."

XPS1530 is 2008 vintage and was working properly before the re-install of Vista. Did the reinstall because of a possible malware infection.

After doing a clean install of Vista with the system disk, and also installing the two system utility disks, everything seems normal, except I can't connect to my wireless network.

Under device manager == network adapters, only bluetooth device adapter appears.

I have another computer, so thankfully I can get on the internet to find drivers/a solution, and get them onto the xps1530 via a thumbdrive.

Came to the Dell site, entered my xps1530 service number, and the only download offered was the bios flash, so I downloaded and installed it on the xps1530. No change.

Hi there,

I have a problem with starting my new dell 15 7357.

The windows just doesn't start and the only thing on the display is the mouse, nothing else.

I tried taping and holding F2 and F12  in case something pops out but it doesn't work.

The keyboard lights are on and the mouse is moving on the black screen but that's it.

What should I do?

Desktop mode and Longevity mode - thorough explanation

Hi there,

I've a question regarding Desktop and Longevity mode for batteries.

I quite understand the first one - I assume that it is better to have a battery continuously plugged in but charged at some constant level less than 100%, as it is pointed out in the description: "Battery will only charge between 50% and 100%". Or maybe this level will fluctuate between 50% and 100%? This is rather just a curio question.

But how Longevity mode works? From the description "Frequently connecting and disconnecting your computer to a power source without allowing it to fully discharge may reduce the longevity of your battery." I don't know how charging between 88% and 100% will help over here. Or to put it in another words - on my 2nd laptop which I move around with me, I charge the battery to 100% and it lasts for a couple of days. I usually charge it again when the battery level is 20-30%. Should I enable the Longevity mode? If so, then why?

BATTERY CAN'T BE IDENTIFIED

when I turn on the PC, before the Microsoft logo appears, I get the following message:

WARNING: The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery.

Press any key to continue

Press F2 2 times to enter SETUP

Press F12 and any key to enter Boot Menu

What's the issue and how can I get rid of this message?

The computer works without the cable. So the battery seems to be ok.

XPS 15 L502X - Clicking sounds during startup & Error 2000-0146

Hi ,

Today my laptop was stuck in Windows startup. I followed forum instructions to conduct repair, however, I get stuck there too with no options offered. I also noticed clicking sounds from the side where the hard drive is located.

I used my Dell recovery DVD and run diagnostics. When running test on HDD, I got :

+++++

Error code: 0146

MSG: Error code 2000-0146

MSG: Hard Drive - 0 self test log contains previous error(s)

+++++

I retried again using the recovery disk, to see if I can force a repair (where I still get stuck) or recover my laptop to a previous position (where the recovery disk only offers a clean Windows install).

If my hard drive is faulty, then I would rather replace it and save any data I can than waste time in a clean install (my laptop was bought in March 2011 & my warranty expires in March  2015).

Can you please advise how I can raise a ticket so that an engineer can come and replace drive/ advise on data recovery?

Thanks.

Keyboard Lag: XPS 13 (9333)

Hello,

I'm on my second XPS13 (9333) because of a keyboard latency (lag) issue.  I've found that if the AC adapter is plugged in there is no lag.  When the AC adapter is NOT plugged then the problem occures.

The keyboard has no problems in Safe Mode.  Dell sent a USB to reload the OS but that did not fix the problem.  I've heard from another poster (different site) that Dell replaced the MB, SSD, CPU and that did not solve the problem.

I appreciate any insight others may have.

Thank you
