Dell Inspiron 15 3521 - Hard Drive Failure

Hi.  I help manage 60 Dell Inspiron 15 3521 laptops.  We've just finished fully resetting most of them back to factory defaults.  I am not an IT professional, just unlucky to have drawn the short straw!

One laptop would not reset, and only got as far as 6% through the process after 24 hours.  So we switched it off, tried restarting but I guess by them it had moved 6% of the files about and couldn't pick up where it left off.

I've tried putting in the Windows 8 operating system DVD and booting from that, but now I'm getting a message that says the drive is locked, and there's a very good chance that in the process of changing the boot sequence from UFIE boot to Legacy boot I may have "upset" the BIOS.

So what I would like to do is get this laptop back up and running.  I can remove the hard drive and reformat it, scrubbing all partitions etc, and then try reinstalling W8 from my DVD.  I would much prefer to just recover the drive with all of the Dell partitions intact and simply reinstall over the correct Dell structure.

Does anyone know what might be best, or have any suggestions to resolve my (probably self-created) problem?

Dell Venue 8 Pro - Kindle for PC App Crashes when annotations attempted

The Dell Venue 8 Pro (Running Windows 8.1)  comes with a Kindle App installed.  However, the textbook that I downloaded requires Kindle for PC.   So I installed the Kindle for PC software in the desktop section of the Dell Venue.   It then allowed me to download the textbook.  (Amazon is also showing this device as compatible with the textbook.)  The only problem is that whenever it thinks I want to highlight something or retrieve a definition of a word, the annotation screen comes up, and then the Kindle App crashes and has to be restarted.

This is also true for 3 other books downloaded, so I don't believe that it is the textbook.  

Any ideas?

How to enable hyper threading

Dell Inspirion 17R 5737 with i7 Intel

win 8.1 64 bit

Looking at Task manager , there is only 4 cores. I want to enable hyper threading to have 4x2 cores when I look into task manager.

I have also Inspirion 15r with 2 cores (i5) and can see 4 of them in task manager.

Try to find solutions on net but without success.

Please help...

M6800 Wi-Fi Driver file starts download, then just stops!

M6800 laptop. Came with Win 8 Pro. I put in SSD with Win 7 64 bit. Everything works EXCEPT Wireless is not recognized! Wireless card is OK since it works with Win 8 on original HD.

I am trying to download this driver--Network_Application_GHPX6_WN_6.5.1.4600_A02.EXE (321MB) from DELL Driver downloads for the 1550 Wi-Fi wireless card, but it freezes about 2 sec into download.

This happens on any of my other PC's or laptop. File starts download, then just stops. I try RESUME, but it just stays stalled. Is anyone else having problems downloading drivers from the DELL drivers site?

Is there a way Dell can send me this driver so I can install it on my m6800 and use the wireless?

Studio 1558 random shut down issue even with latest BIOS

Hi,

     I am another unhappy indian buyer of dell studio 1558, who purchased my laptop in august,2010 . My laptop started showing auto-shutdown problem in july, 2013 , then i complaint regarding the same to dell via telephonic conversation.One day i called dell support and i was told to get my laptop repaired (as my laptop coud'nt perform any check they suggested me on telephone, they told that me that its certainly hardware problem and they guessed it to be with motherboard, heat-sink, thermal pad, fan etc. Though i questioned him,if in case the actual problem differs from what he analysed, but he assured if so then only the parts that need replacement would be replaced and your money will be refunded on that basis) . So i was told to wait for 1 month as parts for 1558 were not in stock. After a month, i received call from dell they told me pay 11k first after which they will provide their service, and  i did what they asked. Another month over and still my laptop did'nt got repaired even after paying, so i called them again and guess what when i called them they were'nt even aware that i payed 11,000INR because of lack of communication between dells people and their lazy attitude( the guy who was dealing with my case, went for leave without handling or sharing my case to another  person; really pathetic, no concern towards customer all they want is to make money). I mailed them to refund my money back , without needing any of their services. Though i received my money back, but this whole incidence and their cheap quality product(a 57,000 INR product did'nt even lasted for 3 years) completely shocked me. Hence i decided not to waste any more time and i buyed another brands laptop so that my work does'nt get hindered. My studio 1558 is still not working and is showing the same issue and i dont know what to do with it now.

Hello,

I have been awaiting a quote from the Tech Service / Sales team (with a stated SLA turnaround of 24 - 48 hours) for the last 168 hours now. I need a replacement LED for the laptop. The LED Screen has cracked from end-to-end and I am unable to understand how or why. The laptop has been securely in my bag and I have not had any accidents with it. I have chased the Dell India Tech Services and Sales Teams and have spoken to about 10 people in the last one week, simply to get a quote for the replacement LED screen. May I get a quote from Dell for this replacement part and a specific date by which the replacement can be made? I hope I am not asking for something really difficult here.

Dell Vostro 3460 USB Ports Failing

Hi, Hope someone can shed some light on my problem ... I have a Dell Vostro (3460) approximately 1 year old, running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit.

Periodically, when I plug in a USB device that USB port stops functioning and will not take any device until a cold reboot is performed.  I get the message that the USB device I am using is malfunctioning, however after reboot they work for a period (hours usually) before they fail again.  This happens with everything from printers, mouse, keyboards to iPhones etc.  It's not fussy what it rejects.

Assistance much appreciated

Hello.

I search info about this swap.. I dont' fount nothing about T796N.. It look like to be a system board for Latitude D630 but i can undestand if is Intel or Nvidia GPU and if is compatibile with my actyal PN302 that is fault.

hi Dell Support
i need your help to get my N5040 working which stopped after BIOS RESET TO DEFAULT however there was no PASSWORD ever set for BIOS itself, now its asking for SYSTEM ADMIN Password which appears just after Power ON with ServiceTag as:- <private data>

Yesterday mornig i also called the DEll-CC and they said they will mail me MASTER BIOS PASSWORD in my mail within 2-3h, i am still waiting for the mail

DELL PRECISION M6700 running very slow

Ok so i have a DELL PRECISION M6700 that i have used for work for the last 14 months, i have used it with programs like AutoCad and revit in the last month it has been getting slower and slower to the point that now it is basically unusable my hard drive light is always on and everything takes a while to load and save. I think it might be the hard drive failing as i ran a boot up test and it came up with a hard drive failure (see attached image) please could anyone advise me on what to do next and how to go about trying to get my laptop fixed.

Windows 7

intel core i7-3740QM CPU @2.70 GHz

16GB ram

64 bit

Hi All,

I really am hoping that someone can help me with this issue as I am finding Dell impossible to work with at present, especially their sales and customer service.

On July 18th I ordered a very expensive Dell Alienware 18 laptop online, the order value was over £2800 so was a consider purchase and a treat for myself. The order took a while to fulfil and included a period where a Sales Person called Sai was involved.

When the laptop did arrive on the 31st it had an American Keyboard rather than a UK one, I immediately emailed the sales person who told me to ring customer services to get it resolved. I did this and got an SR number and was told a new keyboard would be shipped. This never happened and I then rang Dell again on the 3rd Sept and was told someone would get back to me on the 5th which again has not happened.

So i'm now at my whits end. You do not have an option on the Alienware site to order anything other than a UK keyboard so clearly Dell has screwed up but no one wants to do anything whatsoever about it.

Any ideas?

I loosing my wireless connection, i did everything reinstalling drivers and all stuff in some times after these disconnect i get blue screens btath_avdt.sys. Also "My Dell" the update came, then it failed to update, i deleted it and when i try to reinstall it fails and says "The installation was unable to complete successfully and all system changes have been rolled back. To Try and install again, please visit dellsupportcenter.

Im really tired of this problem, what should i do ?

I have dell inspiron 15 and recently if the laptop goes to sleep or at startup I hear "pinging" noises, not like a computer beep but definitely a "ping".  I can shut down and let it sit for a few minutes and it will restart, sometimes takes several attempts but it will restart.  What could this be?

BIOS will not Reflash on E6410

I have a Latitude E6410 with BIOS A07 running Windows 7 Professional.  I understand that I need to flash A09 before I can flash the most current A16.  I boot to Safe mode and attempt to run E6410A09.EXE and I get message that AC power and battery must be connected prior to running.  They are and I click OK but cannot get past this screen.  Any advice?

I am using dell inspiron N5110 . Now a days suddenly, my laptop started to shut off automatically and restart. I checked it if it happens while charging but it started to happen even without charging. i have scanned my computer and also formatted c: drive but the problem is still there. i think there is no problem with the fan as the laptop is not that heated. Help plzz.

My daughter's inspiron 15r will not boot to windows. With secure boot turned off and booting to repair cd or usb I get the message that the windows 8 drive is locked. Pressing f12 with secure boot does not give option to boot to usb. She did not make her recovery media. What am I doing wrong?

my 1545 laptop will not logoff using the usual method  .Only way to shut it down is by holding down the start button.
