Hi guys.
So, I'll try and give as much info as I can, but I'm pretty stressed out at the moment so may miss some key factors.
I have a Dell XPS 15 laptop and it decided that it would die on me today.
This was the result of a graphics card driver download (nVIDIA GT 420 graphics card), as I was due for an update. The screen went black, though the audio and mouse were still in tact. I waited for a very long time before deciding it would be best to turn the computer off and give it a reboot.
However, when I tried to start windows up, I was asked to either start Windows normally or run a repair with the error: 0xc000000e.
Upon trying to repair, it told me to put the installation CD in and boot through the DVD drive. This didn't work. I tried several CDs that may have worked, but no dice. I figured there was a problem with my DVD drive, so I ran a diagnostics check. Low and behold, my DVD drive had an error.
Error Code: 0147
MSG: Error Code 2000-0147
MSG: Optical Drive 0 - self test -- OPU test failed
I figured I'd try to run a USB boot, so I went and got a USB stick and formatted it through the disk partitioning method. It looked like I'd be making progress, but it gave me yet another error.

Is this the end of my laptop? It would be a real shame as there are many things I've not backed up and I'd really like to salvage these files, let alone have the use of my laptop.
Any help would be very kind, and greatly appreciated.
