When I turn on my inspiron 1545 the DELL logo comes up and then the windows prompt tries to load but windows won't open. it just acts like it is trying to open windows forever. I thought I would just restore it to factory but when I turn it on and tap f8 where the repair computer is supposed to be it isn't there. It won't open in safe mode and when I try to open it in safe mode it try's to load windows files and then stops after a few run down the screen and then says please wait and won't go any farther. It must be a virus.  Any Ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

i currently upgraded my alienware M15x Laptop to windows 8.1 Pro from windows 7 Home Prem, i didn't like the speed of windows 7 at all and so much bloatware on the OS disk that comes in the manual. the drivers were all working etc but i decided to upgrade, Problem is i can find hardly any Windows 8.1 drivers for this laptop it was hard enough getting the control center working Lol. But i would love to get bluetooth working and the Quick Touch Pad (Eject,Rewind,pause/play,FastForward,Vol -, Vol +, Wifi,Control Center,Stealth Mode) but i sadly can't find anything

and any other drivers worth getting

Kind Regards :)

Dell XPS12-9Q33 USB Issue

Hi

I have had an XPS-12 running Windows 8.1 since April, which works well except for 1 issue - I have 2 devices that are not recognised when I connect them using USB. One is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 (GT-P6800), the other is a Kobo Glo (running latest 3.8.0 firmware).

Both devices work correctly with my Windows 7 Dell Studio, however when connecting to the USB ports on the XPS-12 using the same cables the  devices are not recognised. All my other devices, mouse, keyboard, phone (Moto 4G), mp3 player (Sansa Clip), Targus USB docking station work correctly.

The laptop doesn't claim to have any problems and under devices says that all USB devices are working properly, it simply doesn't admit that either of the devices has been plugged into a port. I've tried using both USB ports on the laptop and all on the docking station. The USB drivers (from 2006) and BIOS (version A06) are the latest available from Dell support.

Thanks in advance.

I am unabe to do it via the desktop as the loop is preventing this

The battle of the mouses!

I have a Dell Studio XPS 64-bit laptop, which I bought 4 years ago. Not being a fan of in-built mouse pads, I also bought a wireless Dell conventional mouse. I seem to remember that there was a feature in the set-up that rendered the mouse pad inoperative when the wireless mouse was working, i.e. the associated dongle was plugged in to a USB port.

This has worked fine up to about 6 months ago, when I discovered that both devices were simultaneously active, causing me to have difficulty when typing a report (as I brushed the mouse pad with my hand, I moved the cursor, causing my typing to wind up in the wrong place in my document. I've tried everything I know to fix this (unsuccessfully so far), short of uninstalling the driver. Any ideas please?

Favorite Laptop of All Time (STUDIO) Screen Repair

If I could buy my 2009 Dell Studio 1555 all over again, brand new, I would. I tried, in fact, many times. Will never understand why Dell discontinued this model.

I began having trouble when I noticed the screen bezel cracked and broken in August. I ordered a replacement bezel. During the installation, I broke the actual screen. I order a new screen, installed it, put the new bezel on--and it just doesn't fit. Now the laptop lid is breaking. I will order a new laptop lid if that will help. All told, I have replaced nearly everything there is to replace on this laptop, and it keeps going.

Someone please respond. The bezel replacement was from Ebay, as was the replacement screen, but both are precise in terms of measurement. I can't figure out why the bezel will not snap into place. It was only yesterday I noticed the cracked lid--but I think the lid cracked only after I began to make all these repairs.

SHOULD I HAVE REMOVED THE ENTIRE LID/SCREEN FROM THE LAPTOP? I don't know how to do this and would appreciate any links to videos that show you how.

THANK YOU!!!

Hello,

I have been using my n5010 laptop for last 4 years. Last week I did Dell's Diagnostics test and it showed me 0146 error (though my laptop works fine).

I have important data in my laptop. I dont want to risk it. So I am thnking to change the hard drive.
I have selected this drive because it is 7200 rpm with 6gbps interface at affordable price.
I wanted to make sure that my laptop will able to handle this HDD.

Thanks

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14 7000 series. This morning I started having a problem where I have no display. The computer is on. The hard drive LED is on. But no display.

I've tried to turn the laptop off completely. The battery is fully charged. Any help would be much appreciated!

Strange behaviour : Laptop keeps muting and un-muting at super sonic speed

Problem Description:
Laptop keeps muting and un-muting continuously on a random basis. The problem is showing up as if someone is continuously pressing the Fn + Mute button repeatedly. The screen will display volume bar being muted-normal-muted and so on and the same will be seen on the volume icon in the taskbar. It occurs continuously and extremely fast. If I press any key on the laptop it will stop and then again starts on its own either instantly or after few seconds.

Error Message:
No error message is seen.

Recent Changes:
The problem started on its own while the laptop was idle for 10 min and I had been working on the laptop for about 2 hrs before that. No changes were made to the system in the last 2 days. A pen drive was connected to the laptop 1 hr back for copying some files and then disconnected.

Troubleshooting Done:

  1. Checked for any stuck keys and typed every key on notepad to make sure every key is typing correct.
  2. Scanned laptop thoroughly with McAfee and BitDefender.
  3. Tried System Restore to a known date when system was perfectly fine.
  4. Checked for any driver updates.
  5. Uninstalled sound drivers and re-installed.
  6. Uninstalled keyboard driver and re-installed.
  7. Removed battery for some time and re-inserted.

Diagnostics:
All the test showed "Pass" on running the diagnostic on Dell website.

I am totally clueless. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Studio XPS 1647 laptop POST LED error codes

$

(Posted this a few days ago but got no answer. Try it one more time.)

Symptom:

Studio XPS 1647 laptop can't boot past POST and stuck at Dell splash screen with progress bar at ~80%. After holding down FN and pressing the power button for an ePSA boot, all three volume LEDS would flash twice, immediately followed by the MUTE LED flashing and then going off, followed by volume UP and DOWN LEDs flashing and the volume UP LED going off, and then followed by just the Volume Down LED flashing continuously. The fan is turned on immediately after the PSA boot with slow speed, and then it spins faster after a few seconds with louder noises.

Recently my Studio XPS 1647 has had overheat problems, and sometimes they would cause BSOD. A reboot after BSOD always showed broken screen images. The BSOD always came with bcode 116 error: this is apparently video card related. So last weekend I opened the case, removed the heat sink and the fan. The heat sink vent was completely blocked with a thick layer of dirt, so it's no wonder for overheating. I cleaned up the heatsink vent and the fan, cleaned up the top of CPU chip and the top of GPU chip, reapplied thermal paste and put everything back together. After that, the machine couldn't pass the Dell splash screen on boot.   I've already checked the discussions and followed suggestions on holding  down the power button to remove static, reseating the memory card etc., but they are of no help.

The following video shows the POST LED lock codes:

System Active Time Bug

$

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 this week. I am wondering about it: when I turn the system off, and turn it on a day later or so, in the Task Manager under "Active Time" it continues counting the active time, although being turned off. After a restart it resets on zero.

E.g: I used my laptop yesterday afternoon, turned it off when I finished. The next day, I turn it back on and the system activity time is on like 23 Hours...

is this normal? I don't think so...

Greetings
