1) My Dell 580 Inspiron's  harddisk crashed. I tried all the various recovery methods listed in the Inspiron Setup Guide booklet as well as in the Dell Technical support sites in the internet (many merry go rounds going from procedures to procedures and back to the same procedures!). They all apparently cannot work or hanged somewhere in the process.  Gets error code 142 when running the diagnostics. Gets error code 0F00:1344 for many memory blocks when running the detail diagnostics.

2) I have now purchased a replacement WD 1 TB harddisk and have a factory image recovery saved in a thumbdrive.  The procedures for Dell Factory Image Restore, the procedures are different from what I see on the PC screen.  eg after F8, Advanced Boot options, there is no "Repair Your computer" option. Please advice how I can reload the various programs back to my new harddisk.

Hi, i have a dell inspiron 5520, 6gb ram, 1 tb hard drive

Perhaps one of you kind people can help me; after being on the phone with tech support during the week,  we had established my hard drive was faulty (upon boot my laptop screen would stay black and it would say: Checking media_ [fail] )

After establishing the hard drive was broken. i bought a new one, ive just connected it today and now it the screen is still black, it says checking media [fail]. But now it also says 'no boot device found. Press any key to reboot the machine'. Also there is now no problem with the new hard drive when checking the diagnostic.

Hi,

When i switch on my dell laptop, then i hear 8 short beep sound.

The 8 short beep sound is played, after a small interval again 8 beep sound is played and it goes on and nothing is displayed.

Please help

Hello ,

recently i updated my dell bios from a7 to a14 and its very bad it supports Microsoft windows only

and i want back to a7 its very good on Linux how i can do that 

note :i updated the bios at the first time from windows and when i tried to setup a7 again an error message appeared its says i cant' setup a backward bios version

please i need your help i can't use Linux :(

when i plug the adaptor to the wall outlet, the led light on the adaptor turns on.
after i plug the adaptor to the laptop, the led light turns itself off and nothing happens in laptop as well.(the led indicator in adaptor turns on if i unplug it from the wall outlet without plugging to the laptop) No indicator lights on laptop as well and i cannot turn on laptop as well.
i tried to turn on with battery only but it does nothing.
i removed the battery and tried to run it on AC adaptor only but still nothing happens.
i removed the battery and unlugged the adaptor and pressed the power button for few minutes and tried to turn it on again but still nothing happens.
i searched on google and found some similar situation as mine.

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520.  

A couple of months ago the hard drive failed.  I purchased a new hard drive from Dell and installed it.  I then purchased Windows 8 from Microsoft, and (with the help of members at this forum - thank you!) reinstalled Windows 8 64-bit.

This is the first time I am doing something like this, so I have another question please:

The Drivers/Utilities CD sent with my Dell are for Windows 7 64-bit.  I have now installed Windows 8 64-bit.  I see Dell has the drivers available for download.  

Is this correct:

I should view my Windows 7 Drivers/Utilities CD, and make a list of all the drivers and utilities I will need to download.

Then go to the Dell support website, locate all those individual drivers/utilities, and download them.

I will need to use my other laptop to download them, because of course the new Dell hard drive does not have drivers for Internet access yet.

Have I missed anything?  

Any details, instructions would be most appreciated.

Hi,

I have a dell Inspiron 1545, today I turned it on and on start up the dell logo shows then it goes straight to a black screen with a white flickering curser to then show a very strange white coded message,  along the lines of the below but missing a few of the characters as they are not available for me to write:

A-UèV@=!!é after the A there are 3 strange lines that look like upside down and rotated L's and also one at the end. It doesn't allow me to F2 or F12 if you press any key it just repeats the code on screen.

Can anyone help explain what this may be?

Hi,

I have an Inspiron 15 3521, which isn't booting at all.  On power-on it starts beeping/clicking (presumably an error code) - it's one click, a pause, one click, a pause, and so on - and never progresses, remaining on a black screen.

I've looked elsewhere on the forum and have tried some of the other advice given - for example holding the Fn key whilst turning the power on doesn't do anything (it clicks immediately as before).  Interestingly a week or so back (the problem has been happening for a few weeks) I tried the advice of removing the battery and AC line, holding the power button in for 30 seconds to release static, then reconnecting and turning on, and this seemed to work in that the laptop would boot normally.  However shutting the machine down and rebooting sent it straight back to te black screen with clicks.

Also, that doesn't seem to work any more anyway.

Any other advice, or is this going to need repairs?

I have an Inspiron Mini 1012 and I cant find anything for 64-bit anything only 32-bit, and my warranty ran out so I cant get tech support to help. If you have any solutions that would be great!

About 1 week ago I bought & paid for the dell insparon with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, EMEA. with 2 phone calls and an attempt at the "Chat Online" I have gotten nowhere with dell and trying to get the activation code for my Microsoft package. On the second time that I rang they told me that they had already sent it and that it should have come the day after the laptop. I got documents titled "packing slip" where supposedly I was to find a cardboard envelope with the activation card in it for the software, there was no such card in the envelope I found. To say that I am angered is a Major understatement and I hope no one else has had the same treatment as I have. I would like either the £69 refunded or another activation code sent to me please, it would rectify the situation quickly I would think.

I have Windows 7 installed and I tried a lot of drivers for Bluetooth from the official Dell site. Some of them work correctly and I can connect my old phone with laptop over Bluetooth but when it comes to Windows phone, it is impossible. In my Device manager it can be seen missing Bluetooth Peripheral Device driver. Some of the drivers from official Dell website for Bluetooth failed to install. Because of this driver malfunctioning, i'm unable to use perks of having this laptop and transferring my data to my windows phone over Bluetooth, without cables.

Please help.

Having problems with M6500 and E-PORT plus II PRO2X dock.

USB 3.0 blue jacks on back of dock do not work as 3.0, work as 2.x.

The USB3.0 on side of the laptop perform as expected.

Please advise.

My Dell inspiron 7720 3D fail to start bios and beep 8 times.

I have do the LCD bist and didn't present no results and start to beep 8 times every time I start the computer

does anyone know how to make this work.. trying to use ALT-Number codes using our Dell Inspiron Laptops.. obviously without a Number Keypad they won't work.. is there a work-around for this.. have tried different solutions all no good  e.g. FN+ALT+Number not happenin'

hard to believe that Dell doesn't put a Number Keypad access on these laptops

I've had this Inspiron for a couple years now, but a month ago or so the cooling fan noise suddenly changed. It became very loud, and comes on if I'm doing anything from internet browsing to gaming, randomly. It almost sounds like the fan is grinding possibly. If the fan is damaged, how do I go about getting it repaired? Thank you.

My son had been playing league of legends for about 5 minutes this afternoon when the laptop blue screened. Now it won't boot at all. Most of the time the screen remains completely blank and it powers off within a couple of seconds. Sometimes I see the Dell logo but it just hangs with that on the screen. Once I got it into the EPS using the Fn key and it hung during the memory test. I can't get to the BIOS at all.

I have only just let my son play games on it and most of his gaming sessions end in a blue screen for some reason. It usually reboots Ok. I don't think it has been getting too hot either. It has a NVidia graphics chip so I though it would be a decent gaming machine.

It does not seem to complete POST but there are no tones that tell me what the problem is. Its only a couple of years old and has hardly been used until now.

I have an Inspiron 3721  which wont start. Upon powering a rythmic clic-clac sound is heard and nothing happens. But the most bizarre thing is that if the computer is cooled to about 5degree C it will start and once started it could run for hours w/o problems. In this condition it just passed a complete Dell test without a hitch.

Rather puzzling. Any hint on what is going on in this rather new machine (of course just past guarantee!).

Hello,

I was updating my BIOS but at the middle of flashing my laptop turned off (due to overheating I guess). Now it wont turn on. When I press the power button there is beeping in about every 4sec continuously until computer turns off. The screen is complete black. what can I do?

Go figure - my official warranty expired on September 5, and on September 6 I begin having this problem.

My Inspiron 15R randomly shuts itself down after a period of non-use.  I'm not talking about going into sleep or hibernation mode.  No, it will be working fine, and I'll go into another room to eat dinner or watch TV, and when I come back it's completely shut down.  I have to reboot from a cold state.  When I do, I get various error messages from whatever program was running at the time it shut itself down.  For example, if I had Chrome open, then when I reopen Chrome I get the message stating that Chrome did not shut down properly, and am offered the chance to reopen the tabs that were open when the computer shut down.

The computer is ALWAYS set to full performance.  I use it as a desktop unit 95% of the time, never unplug it.  It is set to NEVER shut down (with the exception of the screen), for any reason, unless I specifically do a shutdown.

The problem I had previously was something to do with the system not recognizing when the AC power cable was plugged in.  (The cable would be plugged in, as it generally is 24/7/365, but the system would be running off the battery.)  A Dell tech came out and replaced the motherboard completely, and it's worked perfectly since they came out.  Now I have this problem, and I'm not sure if it is related or not.

Given my experience with this particular Dell unit, it's highly unlikely that I will purchase another Dell when it comes time to upgrade or replace.

i have Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop...

when i used windows 7 os with my laptop i found wifi and bluetooth drivers from internet...

but now i installed Windows 8.1...

i searched and tried many drivers... nothing working...when i updated the os now bluetooth is working some how....but still wifi is not working... in device manager Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030 is showing with yellow mark...

help me to solve this....
