Dell XPS 15z Latop screen dark shadow problem

Hi, I have a Dell XPS 15z laptop.  I was typing on my laptop today when out of no where, a dark shadow abruptly emerged on the right side of my laptop screen.  At first I thought it was a glare, but when I tilted the screen I realized it looked like something went wrong with either the screen, backlight, etc. I unfortunately can't include a screen shot of the shadow because it doesn't show up that way. However I included a picture I took with my phone that might help explain my problem

.

Any recommendation, advise or help is greatly appreciated :)

Is there any Driver that I could install to increase battery life on Windows 8.1?

Greetings,

I moved from windows 7 to window 8 on My Dell Inspiron 17R N7110. My PC offered me about 2:40 mins of battery drive on power saver and like 2:00 hours in Balanced and also had a dell configured power plan. Now the battery drive have been drastically reduced 1:20 mins after installing windows 8.1.

I wonder if there's any driver that I'm missing. Thanks.

Inspiron 7520 15R freezes and black screen

I have an Inspiron 7520 15r that with increasing frequency, will freeze and then the screen goes black.  The power light is still lit and I can hear the fan running, but the computer is non-responsive.  The only thing I can do is to manually power off the machine and then restart the computer.

This has happened 4 times within the last week and it is getting very frustrating.  The machine is not overclocked, and I have cleaned out the fan of all dust.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Latitude E6420 ATG not booting

So i have a latitude 6420 that will not boot anything. Once started the machine gets to the dell logo and if left alone tries to boot but the screen goes blank, if i hit F12 it sometimes will load the boot menu other times it will go blank.

I have heard of a couple reasons for this. Number one being a need to upgrade the BIOS revision. But if i can boot any OS how can i update the BIOS? I have tried several HDD with win 7 win XP and ubuntu but none will boot. I does boot a live cd or live flash drive after 50 or so attemtps.

Number 2 is that i might need to reflow the GPU because the heat tends to seperate solder joints. Any help would be great

How to get an AUO AHVA Display for the Latitude E7440

As far as I know Dell uses two display suppliers for the IPS Panels on the Latitude E7440. One is LG the other one is AUO.

I also found out that the AUO display seems to be B140HAN01 (I guess the .2 version, source: http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Dell-Latitude-E7440-Notebook.101912.0.html). I am not sure which LG panel exactly is used but I guess it might be the same as in the Thinkpad T440s and T440p since Lenovo also uses AUO and LG as suppliers and the AUO panel in the Thinkpads is the B140HAN01.2

Now in the Thinkpad Comunity there is a big discussion about the to panels LG and AUO (for example: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440s-LG-or-AUO-Display/td-p/1371605) because the AUO panel seems to be much better in many aspects.

1. Are there any users or Dell technicians out there who can confirm my information that both AUO and LG panels are used for the IPS version and that the exakt part numbers are B140HAN01.2 (Dell internal: XTRY9) for the AUO and LP140WF1 (Dell internal: 0MJ2P) for the LG.

2. Can someone which has one ore better both of both panels in the E7440 post his impression of the panels

3. Most importantly: Is there any (inofficial) way to make sure to get the AUO panel if I order an E7440. (I will order from germany).

4. Are those panels really matte or just some kind of semi-matte? Any pictures which illustrate that?  [I currently own a Dell E6400 ATG which was sold as "matte" but was actually a display with GorillaGlass which a good anti-refletion technology (but nevertheless glossy with annoying reflextions, so it should be called semi-glossy and not matte)]

I had to replace my HD and when I went to access the BIOS it asked for a password even though I never set one. I'm also the original owner of this laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron N4110. Is there anyway I can reset it?

I have a Dell Xps 12 for over a year now. Yesterday when I went to turn on me computer my desktop screen stayed completely black. I can sign into my laptop bit when it signs in it is completely black. I can see my mouse and access my task manager but nothing else will appear on my screen. I have been told to remove the battery but that can't be done without taking the laptop apart. Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of my black screen?!!

thanks!

Our company has a service agreement with Dell, my laptop fan bearings are failing, does it void my warrantee if I replace them myself?

I found the genuine dell fans for my M4700 online and can easily replace them myself however I do not wish to void the warrantee or service agreement on the hardware.

Maximum memory in Inspiron B120

$

The manual for the Inspiron B120 says it can support up to (2) 1GB memory modules.  In my experience, computers can often support larger memory modules then the manual says (perhaps because of BIOS updates that were released after the manual was printed).  Has anyone successfully upgraded an Inspiron B120 beyond 2GB?  It's running a 32-bit OS, so there's probably no point in going beyond 4GB, but I'd like to max out the memory.

Come on, Dell. There must be 30 million dvd players out there and your dvd drive won't play all movies?

My 15Z laptop won't play several dvd movies - it has an HL-GU70n drive. It does read and write dvds and cds, just having problems with movies. One of the main reasons I bought this laptop was for travel, so I could watch movies.

I see a firmware update for a Samsung drive on the 15Z product support page, so some15Zs must have that drive.

The movies that won't play on my 15Z work in a dvd player and on other computers.

Problems getting an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 to work

Hey everyone,

I have a Dell Vostro 3350 with Win 7, which suffered a HD failure a couple of months back, so I bought a new HD and reinstalled everything. During that process I had some problems getting the WiFi to work. But after reinstalling all drivers in the order described in this link, I got it to work : http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&docid=268873

It's been working fine since, but unfortunately I managed to recently uninstall the WiFi drivers by mistake and now I can't get it to work anymore when I reinstall them. The drivers install fine, no errors or any sign of problems in the Device Manager. But the are no connections available. If I run the Intel diagnostics tool it tells me that the Wireless adapter is disabled or uninstalled. It is enabled and installed. If I connect via a cable instead, everything works fine.

This is exactly the same problem I had when I reinstalled Windows. I have tried to uninstall the Bluetooth drivers, since they should be installed after the WiFi drivers. But it doesn't seem to help and they reinstall themselves as the WiFi drivers install, not sure if this could be the problem. But I am running out of ideas, surely I should be able to reinstall the WiFi drivers without having to reinstall Windows?!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Inspirion 17-5720 - Win 7 Prem. - Randomly goes into sleep mode / can't turn on touchpad

I had hoped installing new drivers for my laptop would cure the problem but it hasn't.

My laptop will randomly go into sleep mode, whenever I type really fast, I don't know if its some type of keystroke that does it.

I've set all the settings to not go into sleep mode, but I can't stop it from happening. As I posted this, it went into sleep mode. How can I stop it? I notice that it happens when I'm pressing "W" "R" "S" with either Shift or Ctrl key, or when I'm typing really fast.

Also, I can't activate/turn on my mouse touch pad. I go into Windows Mobility, and "turn on" the touch pad, but nothing happens.

Inspiron 7000 Intel N-7260 WiFi Issue

i received my new laptop today.  it would not locate my Linksys wireless access point.  Have several other computers currently on the network.

the laptop would not locate the broadcast identifier when the WAP was in 5 GHz, Wireless-N mode only.

once i set the WAP to 2.4 GHz, multimode the laptop was able to connect.

this is NOT an acceptable outcome for a laptop to be used in a secured business environment containing customer personally identifiable information.  i am considering returning the laptop under the laws regarding "device is not suitable for the use for which it is intended" (being reasonably secure operating protocols during use).

Very Poorly Vostro 3500 Laptop.

Hello there, I have attained a Vostro 3500 Laptop, Which warranty expired on the 21/7/2014.
This was a member of the families laptop until it decided to overheat, shut-down and then they slammed the lid without realizing there was a pen inside, and destroyed the screen and all living life from the poor thing.

It seems to start up but due to the screen being so bad (100% white and smashed), i unfortunately cant really tell if it's doing anything.

Due to the fact it was dead we had a guy look at it for us, he was a complete clueless idiot, and he returned the laptop missing the plastics from the bottom (the harddrive / ram areas), a harddrive, the ram and well, god knows what else.

I decided to dig it out yesterday to re-call what happened and see if i can actually get it back alive.

I'm now kinda stuck with a severely broken laptop which is missing parts.
Is this something that could be sent away and repaired at dell?, if so how, what am i looking at cost wise, and is it realistic and economical to do? (should i just scrap it and get a new one) What's the best way to deal with this?

In other words, it needs a service & MOT, Which we all know cost the earth these days.

Cheers.

How can I get a part number for my Inspiron 17R 5720 motherboard?

I went to the components listing for my laptop, and the motherboard seems to be the ONLY thing not listed.

It's out of warranty, and I believe that something was spilled on it, and I want to know what part to get.  The Service Tag is<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> , if that helps.

Thanks!!!

Docking Station Issue

I am using a Dell docking station with a Dell laptop. We are a hospital and we are having issues with our Doctors laptops. We need to know if there is a setting that when the laptop is docked to only run off wired internet and then when they un dock to run off wireless. Because if we leave wireless on then when the computer is docked the computer keeps switching back and forth from wired to wireless and confuses the computer. But if they turn off the wireless and un dock they lose all the patient notes they had typed.

Is there a setting to fix this. Please respond as soon as possible this is an urgent issue. We have quit a few upset Doctors.

Latitude 7240: Recovering hard disk with self encription

$

Hello,

we have several Dell laptops in our company including the Latitude 7240 with 256GB SSD with self encryption (Lite On LMT-256M6M).

One on the user has input wrong password on its new Latitude 7240 during the Dell Pre boot authentication (PBA) and now the Dell PBA states that the computer is locked and that it is necessary to contact the administrator (that it's me).

During the setup of the Dell Data Protection Encryption (DDPE) in the windows 7 Environment I added a usb key to let the DDPE create the recovery OpalSPKey dat file. So I have this file but I'm not able to unlock the drive from bios or even connecting the hard drive with a msata to usb as suggested by the local Dell Prosupport technician.

I tried also to remove the partition of the hard drive in order to reset the hard drive (also this was suggested by Dell Prosupport technician) but the drive doesn't allow any operation.

Other similar encryption solution permits to recover the hard drive with the backup recovery file. I imagine that the dat file that I have should be used quite for such situation but I'm not able to find the tools that need to be used.

I'm looking for any suggestion to solve this problem.

Thank you in advance for your kind help.

Best regards

Marco
