Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series (7537) Blank screen, windows 8 not booting, no BIOS?

0

I just a bought a new laptop yesterday, DELL Inspiron 15 7000 Series Model 7537, with windows 8 installed, I checked the laptop and surfed the internet a bit, I checked the windows 8.1 in store and it showed me that I have to update my windows first in order to download this 8.1 update, i decided to update the windows.

When i started the windows update, it showed me there were 112 updates there, i clicked on download the updates, but none of them seemed to work, however I searched around and found that I must turn off the metered connections limit download. However, the updates seemed to download and after downloading around 70 updates i decided to restart my laptop.

My laptop restarted with a dell logo, and right after that a blank screen, and after a while a cursor.

I have been restarting my laptop since yesterday and to no aid, a blank screen is showed and nothing else happens. I tried to enter BIOS setup to boot from the other D drive recovery, but I am unable to enter the BIOS setup.

I try to press F8, F12, F2, F10, to enter BIOS or atleast start the automatic windows recovery, but nothing seems to be working.

I spent a lot of my hard earned money to buy a new laptop with a new windows, and this is really frustrating, any help would be highly appreciated.

Regards.

[Confirmed] Dell Touchpad utility issue on Inspiron 3442,3542,5748

I can reproduce this on multiple Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series (5748).
Inspiron 15 3000 series (3542) and Inspiron 14 3000 series (3442) are probably affected as well.

Stock BIOS A01 - no newer version available
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Dell Touchpad utility 18.0.7.1

Issue #1 When disabling the touchpad within the Dell Touchpad utility the touchpad re-enables itself after rebooting one or multiple times or after resuming from sleep. The setting does not persist.
So I had to disable the touchpad in Device Manager instead.

Issue #2 "Device Disconnect" sound after resuming from sleep. I think it's related to the touchpad drivers.
This issue seems not present after reinstalling Windows myself. Only occurs on factory pre-installed Windows.

Dell Inspiron 14z touchpad lost "double-tap to select" functionality after Win7 reinstall

Hey all,

So my 14z touchpad had this wonderful function, pre-reinstall, where I could double-tap an item to select it, move my finger back and forth on the pad to position the item, and tap once to release it. The important and delightful part of this was that I could lift my finger and reposition it on the touchpad without"dropping" the item. With a small touchpad and a large screen, this was totally essential to moving things easily from one side of the screen to the other. It also was very nice for selecting large amounts of text in a precise way.

What has very annoyingly replaced this function, now that Windows 7 has been reinstalled, is the ability to awkwardly hold my finger at the very edge of the pad after double-tapping to select the item, which allows the item to slowly move in the corresponding direction. I hate this and I want it to stop.

Does anyone know why this functionality may have stopped, or how to get it back? I've installed the driver that Dell thinks I need for my system, as well as an alps touchpad driver I found elsewhere on the Dell site. I also haven't found any options related to this in the mouse settings in the Control Panel or in the Ease of Access.

Thankyou thankyou for any advice / help you may be able to muster.

Dell XPS 15 (L502X) crashes during gameplay

Hello, so I bought a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) laptop 2 weeks ago and have found a lot of trouble with it. It is an i7, 8gb ram with the nvidia 540m video card.

I have tried 3 different games, Left 4 Dead, League of Legends and Dragon Nest, and it crashes/freezes in all 3 games. You are able to run the game in high graphics however, it will crash in a shorter amount of time. If you put it on lowest quality, it still crashes, but it tends to take a longer time.

I have looked all over the internet and found many others that have the same exact issue with the same exact laptop and specs. There is not one thread out there that has provided a solution to this problem.

Things that I have tried.

- Old Drivers, New drivers, drivers from the dell site, drivers from nvidia, beta drivers

- driver sweeper

- changing the gpu to nvidia high performance instead of integrated graphics for the different games and programs

- changing the physx hardware to nvidia 540m

- set battery to high performance

- dell tech support, all they did was change integrated to nvidia high performance and change one setting in hopes of fixing the issue as well as using the system scan for issues, the report came back as passed and no issues.

And today while I was messing around with the settings, I have found a mediocre alternative to this problem. If you simply never use the nvidia GPU then there will never be a crash. You simply do everything  with your integrated card. You will be able to run a game like League of Legends on Normal settings at best. However if you do this, it is as if you wasted all your money to get the nvidia 540m that simply does not work.

I want to work with dell and not have to do anything to drastic and simply fix it on my own, but I have tried all these things and I am sure none of them work. The people on Nvidia forums simply turn a blind eye to this issue. I sounds as if this issue is common, but also a hit and miss since there are some owners that do not have this problem. If anyone has found a solution or can recommend me as to what I should do, please help.

If I have to, is it possible to simply send this entire laptop back to Dell and have them fix it or simply replace the Nvidia 540m with one that works.

After I removed startup items, the touchpad utility no longer works properly

I have an Inspiron 5520. It was very sluggish, and eventually it was just too much, so I ran the Windows Performance utility. In the course of running it, I removed many of the programs that start with bootup -- but I didn't make a note of which I removed.

Now the computer works great and much faster. But the touchpad is stuck on tap-to-click, which I'd like to be able to disable. But even when it is disabled in the Dell Touchpad, it doesn't turn off.

Any ideas?

Dell Inspiron 3721 Power Management

Hi, people!

I am from Ukraine, sorry for my English, I’ll try to do my best to make myself clear.

I have a Dell Inspiron 17 3721 (Pentium 2127u), I bought it 2 months ago, it is under DELL warranty, and my problem is that, unlike any other laptop in this world, it cannot be controlled in terms of power consumption using standard procedures such as display brightness adjustment, switching on / off Wi-Fi / Bluetooth, reducing / increasing CPU load, switching to a different power plan regardless of the OS installed (tested on Ubuntu, Win7 and Win8 with drivers from the manufacturer’s official site).

Specifically it means that, after I charge the battery to 100% and unplug the charger, when I click the battery tray icon, it shows me a remaining battery life time between 3 and 6 hours, but it is irrespective of anything mentioned above, and whatever I do, I cannot extend the remaining battery life time in any way. It just counts down.

When monitoring sensor readings, I can see that, upon charging to 100% and unplugging, the battery “thinks” several seconds with the “battery discharge rate” varying until it takes a constant value, for example, -13280 Whr, and that value remains the same, regardless of the CPU load or the number of applications run, until I plug the charger again. At the same time, the battery charge level, the battery voltage and the CPU power consumption values are shown dynamically and in a strict relation with the actual load.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that DELL Diagnostics Software cannot detect any problem with my notebook and returns no error code. And though I reasonably don’t believe that “The battery is performing normally”, both my local DELL Technical Support operator and my local DELL Authorized Service Center engineer apparently do. The former pretends to be sorry for not being able to help me without error code and the latter doesn’t even pretend to, but seriously guesstimates that I have “a weak CPU”.

So, dear friends, you are my last resort in this world of incompetent experts and unfair practices, and I kindly ask your opinions on the issue in question. Personally I think there must be a fault in the original DELL battery controller, but maybe I am wrong and someone knows exactly the right answer or could provide me any assistance or advice that I would really appreciate.

Inspiron 15 7537, automatic display dimming

0

Hello,

I've purchased Inspiron 15 7537 and after some time I've noticed that the display automatically dims depending on the color of the displayed image. When something dark is being displayed, the brightness of the screen lowers, with white images the brightness increases to maximum.

It is as if the system was trying to create brighter whites and darker blacks but it always takes a few seconds for it to accomodate and so it is not only useless but also annoying. Because when you switch from something darker (say Windows 8 Start screen) to something brigther (a website), the colors are totally faded for a few seconds. If you do this often, it gets pretty annoying.

I tried disabling the Adaptive Brightness setting in advances Windows energy preferences, it seemed as if it helped for a while (however I just might have not noticed) and then it started to do it again. It is still disabled in the settings though (and I disabled it for all energy modes). I also tried turn off the Intel special battery saving setting, didn't help. Please, do you know of anything else I could try?

I know this is nothing really serious but when you finally buy a more expensive laptop you really expect it to perform and not to be worse than the one you had before for 4 years and cost half the price.

Lost Touch Screen Function on Inspiron 7537

Hi all,

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 7537 with full HD touch screen / 16gb ram / 1tb hdd / Nvidia GT750 and this laptop is just lovely, though I dont suffer from the usual wifi issue, I did changed the wifi card into 7260 AC model and it does fly! got it for 28$ off ebay.

Anyway, there's only 1 thing that bother me much, right after the initial setup, I've run through the updates and after restart I noticed that I've lost the touch support function. Even when checked on the PC and Devices info page, suddenly doesnt state my laptop has touch support. I've been through the net for many days looking for drivers and this issue but none came close to my case.

The monitor driver stated as generic PNP monitor? and I couldnt find any compatible driver for it. I've look at control panel setting and there is no option for pen / touch input too.

Not sure where and what went wrong. Attached is 2 print screen of my system. For security reason, I've cropped the product ID. Should there is someone from Dell require those, I'd be happy to send private message with all the details.

For my part, I've done all diagnosed with dell website + software but keep saying my system is correct and no problem with anything. Though I dont really fancy of using the touch screen, it would be nice to know that my laptop has it and its working.

Many thanks

Dell Inspiron 15 3542 no internet access

Hello ! Today I bought a brand new laptop. It came with ubuntu OS, everything was working fine, but I've decided to install windows 7 on it. After I've installed windows my new laptop can't connect to the internet. At first I've thought that I might been having some issues with my router, but since other devices(laptops, cellphones) can access the internet in my house that doesn't seem to be the problem. Then I've installed these drivers( Dell Wireless 1705 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver and Realtek RTL8106E-US & RTL8111G-US Ethernet Controller Driver ) and rebooted my system, but sadly that didn't helped. Last thing that I've did was, I've rebooted my laptop, accessed BIOS and was looking for wireless settings(Maybe somehow the wireless antenna was disabled), but I couldn't find such settings there.
So what should I do ?

Excuse my poor English.

Should download speed be the same on different laptops with the same wireless card?

0
0

I have the current XPS 15 (9530), the top of the line model. My friend has the top MacBoook Pro. Both of us have the Intel Dual Band Wireless-ac 7260 and are connected to the same 5GHz network, yet he can achieve a download speed of +100Mbps and on mine I can only achieve ~40Mbps. This is using the same speed test website and server. Is this a faulty network card, or is it down to something else?

Many thanks.

My N5010 will not get past the Dell logo and will not start up? It continues to cycle from a black screen to the Dell logo and back? Using Windows 7 Home Premium.
