Dell Precision M4800 AMD AutoCAD Graphics Question/Issue

I just purchased a Dell Precision M4800 with AMD graphics and am trying to figure out how to get AutoCAD 2014 applications to recognize the GPU instead of the integrated HD Graphics 4600. AutoCAD 2014 and AutoCAD Map 3D 2014 both default to Intel HD Graphics, saying there is an "uncertified" 3D device. Is the M5100 Mobility Pro a new version of the M5950? Also, 2015 ones show nasty screen cursor error with hardware acceleration enabled, but it seems to be using the AMD GPU. Note that these are free educational licenses, so for all I know they purposefully disable some things with them.

Additionally, when checking for driver updates, it says my GPU driver is up to date, although AMD's website does show a newer version.

Dell System Detect Problem

On my Dell 1525, XPSP3, with a fresh install gives me error on startup - "dfsvc.exe error report", same when I attempt to initiate Dell System Detect, same when I attempt to uninstall, and same when I attempt to click "support for support 5.3.1.5". This blocks using the Dell PC Diagnostics website. Can you tell me how to repair?

I have tried to turn off the touchpad and it works for a few minutes and then it is back to engaging. My cursor jumps all over the place, even when the touchpad is disengaged. This started about 6 weeks ago. Can someone help me.

We just moved to Williamsburg, va. and Cox Cable installed a wifi modem as part of their cable package. We don't get the tv option so it is just wifi.

At first it seemed ok but after a day or so all web pages just refused to load or took over a minute to do so. I have re-booted everything. Cox says it is our computer. Well we have 3 Dell lap tops and they are all doing this but my I Pad works with it just fine. Since the I Pad works just fine I am guessing this modem is not compatible with our Dell units. I checked the drivers and they are ok.

Any ideas?

I'm building a "new" Precision m6400 Covet laptop from new Dell parts available on eBay. Since the motherboard is new, it doesn't have a Service Tag. From what I've read in these Forums, a Service Tag is only necessary when requesting Warranty Support. I should be able to enter my own "Service Tag" number to please the BIOS request when starting the computer. The only issue here is if I go to sell this computer, the Service Tag I create will not be a "real" Dell Service Tag.

Outside of warranty, the main advantage of a Service Tag is the ability to go to the Support website and find the correct drivers and such based on your OS. Without the Tag, you can still find drivers based on your computer model number...but it's just not the same.

So my question is this...has anyone purchased a used Dell computer...laptop or desktop...that had a Service Tag number that didn't show up on the Dell Support website? If so, was that a problem or issue for you?

I've got a Dell xps17 702x with service tag <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>, and keep getting warnings of running. Out of disk space. I'd hoped tthat 2x500GB would be enough but photos and music take a lot of space.

What is the biggest capacity of hard disks that I can put in my laptop? I'd also like to change the boot disk for an SSD. I've looked on the Dell site for my service tag, and it only offers 640GB HDD or 500GB SSD, which isn't enough. I cannot find anything that tells me whether there is a designed maximum capacity. For example, could I put a 2TB drive in?

I have a Dell N5010 with 1GB Radeon 550v graphics, which is a well known model(family) with heating issues. Recently I had noticed few artifacts whenever I play videos or use applications that use GPU and they started increasing overtime. Yesterday I fired up dell video diagnostics a couple of times and my laptop died. Now on starting it gives 8 beeps at regular intervals and it fails to start. I have confirmed that it is my GPU which got damaged rather than a problem with the LCD by connecting to an external monitor.

I called up Dell representatives today and got a price of 11000 INR quoted for the repair, which I think is on the higher side. Does Dell provide chip level replacement for only the GPU to reduce the costs? Have others facing similar problems found some alternatives, in or around Mumbai?

@#iworkfordell: Can someone provide an simple explanation on what the repair covers? Are there any hidden costs above the quoted price viz. transportation, part prices, etc. The quote has terms like "Golden part replacement required" which I was not able to understand. The quote also mentions that for 17999 INR, we get "1 Year In-Home Hardware Services after Remote Diagnosis + Premium Phone Support", is it equivalent to 1 year of warranty extension + the current repair?

Hi,

I have DELL Inspiron 6400/E1505 laptop and it's been one and half year since i bought this laptop so my warranty is already expired. I am experiencing a weird problem with my battery. This morning when i started my laptop (Vista Home Edition) on AC power, the battery icon (battery with plug) was showing a cross and when i hovered over the icon, it says 'No Battery is detected. When i open the battery meter software, the first tab 'battery status' was showing all controls empty and disabled. I thought perhaps my battery is dead, but my laptop is working OK with AC power as well as on battery. Battery light turn green/yellow when it's on AC power but it is RED when i remove the AC power but system keeps working. In battery mode the battery meter icon doesn't change (it normally changes to show a battery without the plug). I am not sure what to do, what has happened? my battery is dead or battery meter software is not behaving?

Good day to all

I am running Win8 on a Vostro that came with Win7. My recovery partition could still be there, or not. I did a clean install and re-installed all the "required" drivers and applications; but I feel the system could be more faster.

I would like to get this beast growling again, instead of these sniffles it's producing. I am keen on spending hours on this resuscitation endeavour...from scratch.

Firstly, I would like to know the best (preferred) boot mode for my BIOS settings; I've been trying to enable 'Intel Rapid Start Technology' since the pop-up after each boot is annoying me.

If we can get this sorted, I'll be greatful for a start.

Hi, my laptop battery is okay! Windows 8 recognises the battery and indicates charging. But in actuality, the battery is not charging. As you use it even while plugged to power, it gets drained until 5% and alerts you of low battery.

However, I updated the windows 8.0 to windows 8.1. Thereafter, I began to notice this malfunctioning.

I do not know what could cause this.

Please I need your assistance.

My Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station Model: D3000 is connected to my Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 as well as two external Disk drives, an external DVD drive, Printer and speakers as well as an external Monitor. Recently I took my laptop on a trip and when I returned, when I reconnected it to the docking station it no longer recognized my external monitor.

I have gone through several diagnostic steps not limited to unistalling and reinstalling the DisplayLink Software and accidentally bumped into only one action which seems to work - Power failing the Docking station (Pulling the power cord). Unfortunately, this is a pretty serious action to take and the fix doesn't seem to stick as I have had my second monitor drop out after restarting my computer.

The bigger problem is that I spent over a week trying to figure out where to get support for the Docking Station and the DisplayLink Software. It seems my only alternative is to call in and speak to Dell Tech Support, but this is very inconvenient because my work hours are the same time as Dell Technical Support but this is my personal computer.

P.S. One other problem I have with the Dell SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Docking Station is that the rubber feet on my Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 are outside the width of the Docking Station so the Laptop can not be positioned on top of the Docking Station because it slides right out.

I recently noticed ghost images on my Dell XPS 12 Duo. If a bright image on dark background stays on the screen for a couple of minutes and then I switch to somewhat dark background I can clearly see the previous image on the screen for some time before it fades away. Once I noticed it I started spotting even more subtle ghost images. I even managed to capture it in a picture with a low-end digital camera - http://imgur.com/a/RIYff (notice the tray icons clearly seen in the Win 8 start screen and even the facebook ad is visible). It is far more clear when you look at the actual screen and not on a picture. I already arranged replacement laptop (as I had other issues with this one) but yesterday I read news about mass defects in Apple's Retina MacBooks ( http://www.ibtimes.com/print/macbook-pro-retina-display-problems-apple-faces-class-action-suit-ghosting-issue-1129939 ) with practically the same issue. Now I wonder if it is possible that all Dell XPS 12 Duo screens have this problem.

So anyone else seeing this on his machine?

I have a laptop Inspiron N5010 and its not showing anything on the screen, just giving 8 beeps when started.

Stops for 2 seconds and then again gives 8 beeps. This continues to happen untill I turn it off.

Connected an external monitor but that did not work, Tried combination of Power button + "D" that worked once but after it was turned off it never worked. Unplugged the LCD Cable from motherboard and plugged it again but that did not help either.

Plesae suggest what can i do to fix it.

After reading many posts and trying different ways to make the touchpad work properly on Windows 8 then 8.1, it is finally working. And make no mistakes, this is NOT a workaround, it is the official driver supplied by:

No NOT DELL, because Dell until this date is providing the Windows 7 driver and says it is working, while actual users says it is not.

I have contacted Cypress directly who confirmed the driver was given to Dell but not published, and they were kind enough to provide me with the OFFICIAL driver compatible with Windows 8/8.1, and yes I have tried it and it is working beautifully.

Now, go and grip your driver and say thanks to Dell for their exceptional support!

Clean Install Inspiron 14R N4010

Trying to help a friend who was having trouble with their computer. He formatted the drive leaving a clean install the only option. This is Win 7. When I run the install disc everything goes great. I get all the way to the reboot and final installation check mark. So it is still in the install mode. when there is suddenly a BSOD. The computer reboots to a error window with the only option being to click ok at which time it then reboots back to the same error window. I need to know what I am doing wrong here? I just can't seem to get windows installed on this laptop.
