A couple days ago my computer which is running windows 7 started rebooting after it got to the windows logo after turning on the computer, then giving the option of using start up repair or starting normally. I clicked the repair option and like the title said it cannot solve the problem. I haven't really tried anything yet so any advice is welcome EXCEPT re-installing the OS.

Hello,

I have an Inspiron 1545 laptop which is a good few years old and has windows vista installed on it. I am trying to take it back to factory settings. However when I boot up and click F8 and go to repair it does't give me the option to reboot to factory settings.

Is there any other way of doing this. I don't have any discs,

If you can let me know will be great.

Inspiron 15z 5523 USB problems?

Hello,

I have an Inspiron 15z 5523 and it's not older than 3 months.

I attach my USB mouse in the 1st USB hub in the left side of the laptop which is right beside the HDMI hub.

I frequently sometimes maybe every two days, I suddenly get a message in Windows saying "Your USB Device malfunctioned and Windows doesn't recognize it" and then I have to unplug the USB mouse and plug it again to work again.

Is this a flaw in this specific USB hub for this model?

power supply for Superspeed docking station

Hello, this is a question about the Superspeed docking station for the Dell Ultrabook. So, apologies if this is the wrong forum. We are wondering why the power supply to the docking station doesn't power the tablet also. It seems like the only purpose of the power supply to the Superspeed is to enable the external USB devices that it has. Thanks,

Latitude E6530 NVS 5200M display issues

I have a 2 month old E6530 laptop that sits on a docking station while at work.  The docking station has two monitors connected via Display Ports and I have always been able to use these two displays and the built in display at the same time.  Today when I cam into work, I noticed that the two monitors connected through the docking station were not working, so I went into the screen rez menu and tried to turn them back on as I sometimes have to.  Only when I would have monitor 1 (built in) and monitor 2 (DP1) turned on, if I told monitor 3 (DP2) to turn on it would shut off monitor 2.  Then monitor 2 would turn off monitor 3.  I then went into the Nvidia display settings and tried to do the same thing, and when I check to turn on the third monitor I get a message saying " this GPU supports up to 2 displays"

I have upgraded the nvidia driver to the latest version 320.00 and my BIOS to A11.  Still the same issue, any ideas?

XPS 15 (L502x) upgrade: SSD and / or RAM

$

Hi

I have a two year old XPS15 (L502x) with a second generation i7 processor, 6gb RAM and 750gn HDD.

It's starting to feel a little slow, so I'm thinking of upgrading it to 16gb RAM (2x Kingston KTD-L3B/8G) and/or a 1tb SSD (Panasonic 840 evo). The RAM is about half the price of the SSD (about £375 in total, a lot cheaper than a new XPS15 at ~£1500).

Which is likely to have the greatest performance improvement (I suspect the RAM)?

If I upgrade both, do I need to keep a page file? (Given the frequency that it changes, how will this affect the endurance of an SSD?)

Thanks in advance

Computer works great as long as I have it plugged in to AC. Computer is a Dell Inspiron N7110...system is currently identifying the ac adapter as unknown when I hit the F2 key at startup. Permanent battery failure

Hi,

My laptop Dell Inspiron 5520 has not been detecting the battery. On start up it gives a error message "your battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced. The system will power down if AC is unplugged".

Please help me regarding this?

HELP --> WARNING: The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery.

Hi everyone,

I received this message upon startup:

"WARNING: The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery."

This happened yesterday 8/13/2014. Some background information:

My laptop: DELL XPS Studio 1340

BIOS version/date: A15, 4/8/2011 (that's what my system information tells me)

Year purchased: 2009 (so the laptop is about 5 yrs old)

All the time since I purchased my laptop, I always have my battery in and AC adaptor plugged in (so, my understanding is that my laptop is using the A/C power from the wall). On Wednesday 8/13, I was using my computer for a little while. Then I turned off my computer. I turned back on shortly and this time the startup screen gave me the message. I hit the continue key. The desktop appeared and everything seemed OK, except that the power light is blinking (or flashing, I don't know the difference between blinking and flashing). I checked the batter meter on the task bar and it says battery fully charged 100%. So, I decided to remove the battery and solely use the A/C power plugged in and I can continue use my computer.

I'm confused and have several questions:

1) The computer says the battery cannot be detected yet the battery meter says fully charged 100%? So, is the battery dead or what?

2) Should I replace my battery? What's the lifespan of XPS Studio 1340 battery?

3) I checked the forum and found out that this problem has been reported by several users. Some suggested to replace the battery, others suggested to update the BIOS. So, I went to dell website and found the BOIS. The release date 4/13/2011 last updated 3/5/2014. So, I've the old BIOS? Should I update the BOIS?

4) I'm very apprehensive about updating BIOS. Will my computer settings, such as personalized desktop settings (screensaver, wallpapers, etc), my custom power settings, etc be changed to the default? Or what will change after updating the BIOS?

5) Right now, I've my battery removed and am using the A/C adaptor plugged in. My computer works fine. So, can I just don't use the battery at all and use the A/C adaptor to power my computer?

Any help would be very much appreciated. BTW, I'm a college student and running on tight budget.

Tom

battery failure, battery error, battery problems, permanent battery failure

Hi. I hope someone can help me either to fix this OR make a purchase of a new battery. I'm having the same problems as a few. "Experienced Permanent Failure" replace battery. I just ran diagnostics, no errors. I'm upgraded with my updates. Updated Bios. Same Problem. "experienced permanent Failure" replace battery. So, now what? I have an: Inspiron M731R Service Tag:<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> | Express Service Code:<ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy>Warranty up 12.06.14 I've had this laptop since 12.25.13 Received it for Xmas. Nothing has gone wrong since the purchase was made. Never leaves my house. I charge it under the recommended settings for Dell. I don't begin charging until it's to 20%-17%. I follow all of your battery rules and this happens. Kinda stinks Dell. But I know when it comes to Computers anything goes. So, can you help me? Thanks guys.

Question about 800mhz RAM upgrade for Inspiron 1420

$

So I have a 1420 that I still use for traveling.  I know it's old and slow but it generally works so please don't tell me to get a new laptop.

Anyway, right now it has a T5250 cpu and I'm going to drop in a T8300 which for about $17 on ebay is a no brainer.  I might even drop in a T9300 if I can get a good price.

The motherboard is a 0JX269 with a PM965 chipset and I'm running the A10 bios.  Windows 8.1 64.

But my question is about RAM - right now I have 2 gb of ddr2 PC-5300 which runs at 667 MHz.  My understanding is that this is the fastest ram I can pair with the T5250 cpu.

But if I get a T8300 cpu, does that mean I can drop in ddr2 PC-6400 800 ram and will it run at 800 MHz?  Or is the motherboard/chipset limited to 667 mhz?

Thanks in advance for any relevant replies.

Dell XPS L502x --- Plugged in, not charging (0%)

Hi, this is my first post on these forums so please excuse me if I make a mistake :)

The other day, my computer seemed to stop charging, and I couldn't turn it on after it died. Now I have (with a screwdriver) pushed out the Power input Jack as I found it was to far in. The computer now accepts the power adapter to keep the battery on 0%, and not charge it.

The Error received is something like 'The AC Power adapter cannot be determined'

I've had the computer for a year and a half, and thus the warranty has ended. I really don't want to spend much money because honestly I have none. I don't know much about computer hardware, so if you can please try to use non-technical terms :)

Thanks in Advance,

Cormac
