Trouble loading Windows 7 64 bit

Hi trying to reload windows 7 64bit pro over windows 7 pro 32 bit on my Latitude e6410 but when its loaded the setup files before it enters the graphics mode it reboots..  I'm using a genuine unused OEM version of windows 7 64 bit.  Its an intel i5 m520 CPU with 8GB RAM installed.  I have set the BIOS to defaults in case it is something in there.   Any ideas?  BIOS update?   Confused

So I seem to have the same problem as some other users out there. I've had this notebook for about a month and a half now. It was working fine until recently. When I plug in the AC power adapter cable, a message pops up saying that the AC adapter type cannot be determined, and that my system will operate slower and battery will not charge. It then tells me to connect a Dell 45W AC adapter, which it already is. I can confirm that it's not charging by hovering over the battery icon in my system tray. This is the second time that this has happened. The first time I simply switched to a different power outlet and that seemed to do the trick, but this time it isn't doing it.

I've checked my battery health by hitting Fn+F3 to pull up the Battery Meter and it tells me nothing is wrong with the battery. I can't enable Desktop mode because it's greyed out. I confirmed that the battery was fine by going into the BIOS as well. Another thing was that in the BIOS, "Unknown" shows up beside AC Adapter on the main page. While in the BIOS, I unplugged and replugged the AC adapter, and it still comes back as "unknown." Therefore, I've tried resetting to defaults, and still no results. I've also performed an ePSA diagnostic and my notebook passed all the tests. Currently power passes through the cable as the white light on the plug still lights up and it's continuing to power my notebook. I looked in at the pin and there aren't any damages that I can see. Something else I also tried was go into Device Manager, and under Battery, uninstalled the Microsoft AC Adapter, and replugged in the power adapter, but that didn't do anything.


The last thing I have yet to try is to update my BIOS as I'm currently running A02. However, I can't do so since my battery is currently at 7%. But it's been working before so would doing a BIOS update solve the problem? It seemed to do the trick for the other user from the post I linked, but then again, his adapter actually shows up as 45W in the BIOS whereas mine shows up as unknown.

What options do I have? I still have warranty coverage. Thank you in advance.

Help: Inspiron 1564 not charging

Hi there,

I have had my 1564 for 2 and 1/2 years and I love it. I have however been having some issues regarding charging recently. I was given a  new 'good will' charger from dell as my charger broke after the 2011 earthquake. It was working great until about 6 months ago. Now a high percentage (its intermittent) of the time when I plug it in it says something along the lines of: 

AC adapter is not correct. Please plug in a dell 90W AC charger. By not plugging in a dell charger the system maybe slow to respond or may not charge at all. 

I am using the correct dell charger for my laptop.
It was plugged in all last night and it didn't charge.
Is there something I can do? is it a battery? Charger? or software issue?

Please help me, I'm leaving to travel for a bit and it will be my only source of contact.

The screen on my XPS is like a highly polished mirror in daylight conditions. Is there a screen I can place over it so that I can see the monitor during the day please?

Service Tags

I'm building a "new" Precision m6400 Covet laptop from new Dell parts available on eBay. Since the motherboard is new, it doesn't have a Service Tag. From what I've read in these Forums, a Service Tag is only necessary when requesting Warranty Support. I should be able to enter my own "Service Tag" number to please the BIOS request when starting the computer. The only issue here is if I go to sell this computer, the Service Tag I create will not be a "real" Dell Service Tag.

Outside of warranty, the main advantage of a Service Tag is the ability to go to the Support website and find the correct drivers and such based on your OS. Without the Tag, you can still find drivers based on your computer model number...but it's just not the same.

So my question is this...has anyone purchased a used Dell computer...laptop or desktop...that had a Service Tag number that didn't show up on the Dell Support website? If so, was that a problem or issue for you?

Dell Precision M6500 fell down and touchpad and stick point mouse stopped working

Sadly, my Precision M6500 was turned on when it slipped down from the couch /about 40cm/ to the rug. There is no visible damage on the computer, however, the touchpad and the button/point stick mouse and the respective buttons for the mouse did not work at all. I refreshed the diver and downloaded the newest version. In the device manager I uninstalled it and restarted the computer. There is no Touch Pad options in the Control Panel - Mouse Properties and whatever I did they do not help. Laptop keyboard and the USB mouse works fine.
By next morning the touchpad is working fine, but the Point Stick mouse still not working. What could cause the touchpad and the Point Stick to shut down for just a relatively short period?

I have a dual-boot on my Inspiron 17 3737 of Ubuntu 14.04.1 and Win7 Professional, both 64-bit versions. 

Everytime I boot (via grub) to Ubuntu, nothing seems to be wrong, but when booting to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I stand a 60-40 chance of... not having a CD/DVD device on either the Computer File, or Windows Explorer side-bar or listed in the Device Manager!


Touchpad and mouse not working (well): vostro 1015

I have Dell Vostro 1015, the touchpad stopped functioning well. when I try to move the cursor it starts moving randomly. tried reinstalling the driver, tried new operating system (tried windows 8.1 64 bits, and tried windows 7 32 bits), nothing worked. 

so I thought the problem is the touchpad and it's affecting the USB mouse, so I opened the laptop and removed the touchpad part (unplugged its cable to the motherboard), the USB mouse worked fine for a short time then it stopped working, it works for a while then it stops, then works then stops. tried more than one USB mouse, and they work fine on other computers.

When I restart the computer and enter to the bios, same  problems.

I'm planning on flash the bios, but I don't have a battery and that processes requires the battery on.

I might find one later, but not now, so what are my chances to fix this ?

a friend of mine told me it might be because of the chipset on the motherboard, could it be ? if so, is there a specific circuit that causes the problem ? which one ? and if I took it off, would the USB mouse start functioning well ? 

 

Memory for latitude e6410 Question

Does the DDR3 memory have to be specific for the Latitude E6410?   I have tried upgrading the memory from 2 gigs to 8 gigs.   I have tried;

2 x Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3L 1600MHz Non-ECC 204-pin Unbuffered SODIMM Memory Module

Corsair Memory 8GB Vengeance Performance DDR3 SO-DIMM 1866 MHz 10 Dual Channel Laptop

Both of which Windows 64 bit and Manjaro 64 bit linux failed to boot on.  I ran the inbuilt Dell diagnostics - all passed.

I "borrowed" a Hynix 4 gig stick from another different model Dell which works fine.  The Corsair memory is working fine in the Dell I borrowed the memory from.  but so far short of 4 Gig.

From what I understand the memory I bought to upgrade should have worked fine.

Confused.

TPM Issues on LATITUDE E6540 using tpmvscmgr.exe

I am seeing a number of TPM event in my system event logs related to “The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) hardware failed to execute a TPM command.” (see below). I have contacted Dell support and they have replaced the mother board in my laptop but I am still getting these events. I am able to BitLocker my drive without issue.

I have a other Dell/Lenovo systems (OPTIPLEX 9010 STM/13.12/TPM:1.2 and X220 STM/8.32/TPM:1.2) that I am able to create the virtual smartcard devices and enroll/use/delete certificates. Has anybody else attempted to use TPM based Virtual Smart cards with a LATITUDE E6540 or using the ATML 41.4 TPM chip on a Dell system?

MY Complaint is too long you might get tired of reading. I have given days of continues stress from dell and still given. Please read this entire I am tired of your offshore support from representative through your Manager: 1) I placed my order from dell website for Samsung TV on 8/5/2014. MY mistake- I should have gone to BestBuy or elsewhere and I buy it but I thought you are being well known company so it is my mistake I order from your end 2) The Customer Number: 137983416 Dell Purchase ID: 2004413293168 Order Number: 667901470 was sent through email. 3) I got an email from your offshore representative ( Name and email address is provided-Latha_Priya_S@dell.com. She stated the My order is hold for some verification. I should call at her number and extension provided for verification. So I called at her 1-800-571-3355 Extn 4161328. 4) I called at the number dialed the extension. Guess what. I was on hold for 1 hour and transfer to her extension. The phone kept ringing for 20 minutes no answer so I disconnected. Wasted my 1:30 hours. I dialed second attempt thinking she would probably answer my call. I wasted again 1:30 hours. Same issue there is no one to answer the call in our New York Time zone what a benefit of offshore. This time I did not choose the extension dialed the zero so seek help I was so happy to get someone on line after 2.00 hours. I gave them my information. And ask for to speak with Latha_Priya. They told me she is left for the day 3 hours ago. I told them she should have transferred the call to someone else. That mean so many people like me be calling her and getting annoyed like me after wasting 3- hours each. He said he will take care my order and read some line from paper that customer is always first blha blah blah. Guess what while I was talking to this gentle man. I received an email from Dell that my order is cancelled. Wow. Guess that Order delivered back to Dell on 8/11/2014. Here is the UPS tracking number 1Z1836810356368995 and 1Z1836810356369001. 5) Funny thing You the Dell still holding my money. I still have a charge of $639.85 on my credit card. 6) I called the Dell again. I was put on hold for another 2 hours as usual. I told them my frustration they were able to understand my issue in 20 minutes. they put me through their supervisor. He guaranteed that they will reship the order next day. We do understand the meaning of next day. Right? That mean tomorrow. Episode two for Next day. 1) Dell Purchase ID: 2004291888824 Order Number 669402402. I did not received my order next day called dell again. Order is still showing in production. 2) I got an email from on (8/13/2014) Navneet_Mehrotra's us_cag_customer_care@dell.com with saying typed line “We hold ourselves to a high standard and apologize for falling short in addressing your needs. Blah blah blha” No use. 3) I still do not have my order. This time I got an email from dell (Kuldeep Gill Manager- Dell Customer Care) saying It is unfortunate that the Samsung 50 Inch LED Smart TV UN50H5203AF HDTV bundle with WMN450M Mini Wall Mount is out of stock. OK This is the brief story. I am so frustrated about this situation. I am tired of call dell and being put on hold. I do not have patient anymore to call you and waste my time. I am heart patient I just had heart treatment in the Hospital. Who is dell resolving this issue below: I have wasted 2.5 days from my work hours which I did not get paid from my job which is three times of the TV price. I lost my 2.5 days salary because of dell. What are you doing about it? Dell already got paid from my credit card for the first order which was cancelled by dell and dell already has it returned/delivered to dell place. Dell is holding another charge approved for 2nd Order which is the last order number. Note: I have all record of conversation/email from dell if needed that could be provided. I have a dell inspiron N5110 and i am planning on upgrading the ram modules which are rated at 1333hz. i would like to know if the motherboard can support ram modules at higher frequencies, if yes, how much of a performance boost can i expect.

XPS L502x hard drive dead possibly worse?

Hi guys,

Turned my computer on this morning and I got a 'no operation system found' screen.  I ran diagnostics and got errors:

0146- hard drive dead

0333- graphics test failed

I've had the computer going on 3 years, and within the first year my hard drive died and dell replaced it.  Does this sound like the same thing, or is it more than just the hard drive because of the graphics test failure?  Motherboard perhaps?  Trying to figure out if its worth buying the replacement parts to try and fix myself or if I should bite the bullet and buy a new computer before school starts in the Fall.


I appreciate any feed back!

i bought my computer around 7 months ago.
i notice that i open the windows explorer and then open the google chrome or a game... if i stay 1 minutes or more and then i come back to the windows explorer the display show me the shadow of the last application.
Its normal for a computer with 7 months???

Hi, I have a Dell laptop, and my laptop was working perfectly fine last night, but this morning it won't even turn on. When I plug the charger in, the charger light on the laptop flashes once, and that's it. No noises or beeps are made, so I'm just wondering what the issue is.

Alienware m15x bios update (NEED HELP ASAP)

okay so my new Nvidia 560m GTX graphics card came today and i put it in and well it didnt work due to my bios is to old!

its at A07 and it needs to be at A09 my CD-ROM drive doesn't work so i need to update via usb BUT i dont know how to! can you please step by step help me out here as i really want to use my new GPU

please dont send me the link to the download page because ive been at this for a few hours and the instructions there don't help !!
