Is the Inspiron N5R (N5010) Laptop compatible with another Video Card?

$

I purchased this laptop around a year ago, and recently purchased a few games for it, the main one Civilization 5. It seems that the graphics card that came with the computer (the Intel(R) HD Graphics (Corei3) isn't exactly compatible with the game. So, is it possible that I can buy another better and more advanced Video/Graphics Card and install it into the computer?

Any help appreciated,

  Noah

Okay, So I bought this Dell inspiron 15 3521 on 28th of February, 2014. So the issue is, my screen has got black spots. But the thing is, those black points or dots turn into a shiny white bright dots, when the laptop screen is subjected to top view or side view. From the front, it looks black. I tried taking pictures, but no camera was capable to capture those 1x1 sized black dots. Please help me identify if it is a dead pixel. or let me know how should I identify whether it is a dead pixel or something else.

I have recently bought a inspiron 17 R ( model 5737 ). And i replaced the hdd with a solid state disk (240 Gb). I now want to replace the dvd drive with the original 1 Tb sata disk in a caddy. the ssd is working fine, but the 1tbyte disk in the caddy does not show in windows ( i'm booting from the ssd). The 1 tbyte disk in the caddy is showing in the BIOS, so the hardware seems fine.

can anyone tell me how to get this working? The bios is up to date and when i put the 1 tb disk back in the main slot it works just fine.

Thanks,

Blinking battery lights (4 amber, 1 white)

I'm having the same issue with my Dell XPS L702. These lights keep blinking when the power cable is plugged in. I read another forum and it stated buy a new battery, so I did from Dell. Same problem, lights continue to blink. My bios is updated to current A19. When I initially turn on the computer it states "Battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature." I checked the battery and it's not hot...or even warm, and the computer is not hot. The battery meter states 95%/Plugged in/not charging. The computer still works on AC power only so thinking the power adapter is still good, and still works on battery power only, so not sure what the problem is. I read through the forums and tried what was said. Can anyone help with this one? Thanks much.

Dell Inspiron 5720 - Installed replacement hard drive, but can't install windows

I have a Dell Inspiron 5720.  About 2 years old.  A month or so ago I replaced the hard drive purchased from Dell because the original was having bad sector errors.  I had some trouble getting the re-installation disks from Dell, but finally reached someone that helped me last week.  They sent two disks. One is the drivers and such, the other is the OS disk for Win 8.  I have installed the hard drive without difficulty. It is recognized when I run diagnostics. (I do get a video memory error when I run diagnostics, but I can't see how that's related here.)  When I turn the laptop on, or restart I get the same screen, asking me to choose a boot device.  When I try to boot, it cycles and goes back to this same screen.  I have the OS installation disc in the optical drive.  When I try to add a boot option, (the os system disc), I get "Warning.  File System Not Found!"  I am at wits end here.  I have been without this laptop for months now and am ready to pull out what little hair I have left.  Any suggestions?

Dell docking stations compatability with new Latitude e7440

This is a question for a Dell Expert who is knowledgeable with the Latitude laptops:

I'm looking to purchase an E-port II Replicator Docking Station with USB 3.0, which has the following numbers from the Dell's website:

Manufacturer Part# : XX6F0 | Dell Part# : 331-6307

Does the replicator have to have *exactly* the same M-P/N I've listed to be compatible or are there replicators with different M-P/N that should be compatible? The reason I ask is because the docking stations being sold online only have the model number which is PR03X and a M/N number (the digits-only Dell P/N is never listed, nor is it seen on the back of any product).

I'll give you an example. In the product description for the E-port II (Basic) replicator w/ usb 3.0, I've seen many sellers list a bunch of M-P/Ns as if they were all interchangeable:

CPGHK, 6TJ57, MVP71, XX6F0, RMYTR, V1P2H, 75JJ4, 0PDXXF, WV7MW

Is it true that they all refer to the same product? And if so, will they be compatible with the e7440?

Inspiron N5010 - Just replaced hard drive, won't power on

I just replaced the hard drive in my n5010 and when I plug it in it shows that the power cord is charging the computer.  However, when I press the power button nothing happens. There is no light, no sounds, nothing. Did I reattach something improperly when I reassembled the computer?  Should I just give up and buy a new  computer?

Thanks.

Restoring Windows 8 to factory state, without deleting secondary partition

$

Hi ya'll.

I have a 3-months old laptop, and it's been driving me insane recently - touchpad is freezing, windows losing focus, apps and games crashes and it's mainly just working really slow, and not in the way I would expect from a 3-months old laptop with a configuration that should be running Windows 8, some internet-surfing and videos with no problem.

I decided to do a factory reset using the recovery partition and just start fresh.
Now, I'm a student abroad and I'm on vacation now and left my external hdd back at my place where I live during my studies. In order to backup everything I needed (roughly 95 GB), I shrunk my C drive by 100 gig and created a secondary partition, and just moved my files there.

Now when I came to restart my laptop to start with the process, I realized it says all my files and data will be deleted. I haven't done many factory resets in the past but if I remember correctly, unlike windows disc-installation, it won't let me choose which drive to format and install the new OS on, it'll just delete everything and restore it to the state it was in when I first got it.

Since both drives are on the same HDD, will it actually be deleted? (the secondary drive).

If yes, what can I do to "tell it" not to touch that drive?

System:

  • Inspiron 15 3537
  • I5-4200U
  • 6GB DDR3
  • 1TB 5400RPM
  • AMD RADEON(TM) HD 8670M 2GB DDR3

Thanks!

Inspiron 8200 wake with usb

Can someone tell me if wake from standby with a usb device is supported in BIOS A11 for the Inspiron 8200?  When I select the "allow device to wake" option in device manager and put it on standby...it heads into standby, there is an audible electronic "click", and it comes right back on.  It never fully enters standby and stays there.  With the option turned off in device manager, it goes to standby just fine.

Thanks in advance!

Recently purchased an Inspiron 11 - 3147 laptop which has the lastest BIOS version A01 installed on it.

This laptop requires a BIOS update by Dell to fix problems with itss N2830 and N3530 processors to work with Linux.  The problem is described here;

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1341925

Accordingly to the following news article this laptop is surpose to ship with Ubuntu as an option in September.

As there are clearly BIOS issues when run under Linux would someone from Dell confirm a BIOS update is coming soon for this laptop?

Thanks.

Vostro 3450 CPU issue (i5 - 2430M)

Hello,

I have an issue with my laptop - I have it since 2012 and last week I have done complete re-install. Now it seems to me quite slow, so I run Windows Experience Index and CPU has smallest value (3.4!).

I have installed all suitable drivers (found trough Dell System Detect). But when I re-run "System Analysis", It offers me "Intel Management Engine Interface Driver" that I have already successfully installed. Can be this cause of my CPU issues?

Thanks for answer

Dell Precision M6800 Bluetooth Assistance

Hello,

I recently was shipped a warranty replacement of a M6800 and cannot figure out how to get the bluetooth working.  It is enabled in the BIOS, but the bluetooth icon is never lit up, and I cannot figure out how to tell if a driver is missing (although the Device Manager shows all devices working correctly).  Within Windows 7 I am struggling to find out if it is even working or available... and I cannot find anything about bluetooth in the BIOS.

Any ideas of where I should begin to troubleshoot this?

Inspiron 11 3000 Series (3137) 8gb RAM?

$

I'm looking to upgrade the ram on the newly released inspiron 11 3137. The laptop has one dimm slot that is also user accessible. It is currently only shipping with 2gb of ram. I realize the manual states it can support up to 4gb of ram, but has anyone tried adding a single 8gb stick?

It comes with win8 64 bit, and packs a recently released 4th gen haswell celeron. I'm thinking it may support an 8gb stick, but don't want to order without confirmation that someone has gotten it to work.

Latitude e 6420 6530 Mouse / Keyboard Issues on Resume

I have found that the external mouse, touchpad, and keyboard on my Latitude e 6420 and also 6530 laptops don't come back after a resume (the resume no longer works at all on the 6420 now).

I think this may be driver related as it seemed to start only after Dell updated some drivers, for the Alps Touchpad I believe.

Any hints or suggestions on resolving this issue long term?  I currently have simply disabled the sleep/resume options altogether.

Both laptops are running Win 7 Ultimate, 64-bit.

Hi all,

I just got my new XPS 15, amazing laptop but there's 1 big problem,

A high-pitched scratching/screeching noise is produced from the power button area ONLY when the power is plugged in and the battery is fully charged.

I've seen other forums and others have exactly the same problem, Any ideas?

I found this example http://z.mk/e6vq , the power is plugged into the laptop at 6 seconds.

Vostro 1220 upgrade from XP to Windows 7 which chipset driver

$

Hi all,

I have a Vostro 1220 laptop that I upgraded to windows 7 from XP. I downloaded all the proper drivers and the install worked without any problems. With that said, when I went to lookup the software and drivers for the Vostro 1220 it never listed a chipset driver for windows 7.  There is available for choose XP. I assumed that's because windows 7 will install the proper chipset driver.

I'm curious if I need to use the chipset driver under XP because it seems the read write speed to the drive is really slow. I put in a pretty new western digital black 7200 drive so I'm not sure why thats the case. The bios sees the drive properly and I see it recognized under device manager in the OS.

cd/dvd not showing - even in device manager - in Inspiron 17 3737 - OS Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

I have a dual-boot on my Inspiron 17 3737 of Ubuntu 14.04.1 and Win7 Professional, both 64-bit versions.

Everytime I boot (via grub) to Ubuntu, nothing seems to be wrong, but when booting to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit I stand a 60-40 chance of... not having a CD/DVD device on either the Computer File, or Windows Explorer side-bar or listed in the Device Manager!

Inspiron Laptop (15 5547) error code 0xc000000f

Hello,

I've been using this laptop for 3 days now and I'm already having problems.

I shut down my laptop normally this afternoon and when I wanted to turn it back on a bit later, it just wouldn't start up (not even to the login screen). I restarted a couple of times and the standard menu popped up that there was some trouble and I could choose some options, loading backups, setting everything back to how it was when made (sorry, there's probably a word for this but I'm not a native English speaker) etc etc. I tried the second option I mentioned first (I had nothing valuable on it yet) but it didn't work and after some tries I got this error code out of it: 0x4001001300001002.

After this I tried loading a back-up (would have same effect, since the only one there was the default one), but again trouble it just didn't work. I tried it a second time and it seemed to work but I ended up with a bluescreen that tells me required stuff isn't there or can't be accessed and that I should use reinstall media (like a cd or usb). I also got this new error code: 0xc000000f.

Harddrive and memory etc are all working (I runned a full system check, got nothing out of it, everything was working).

So now my question is, what do I need to reinstall using either a cd or usb? My guess is windows 8.1, but I'm not sure and I rather ask you first before doing stupid stuff.

Thanks in advance!

-Pepijn

P.S.

Did happened after I unplugged my logitech mouse... I don't think it's related but I rather post everything here.
