hello,

I am trying to install win-7 64bit on my Latitude E5510(original OS is win-7 32bit, 4GB RAM,  BIOS Revision A07 )

Win-7 64bit installation disk, I prepared, is professional version 6.1(build7601 SP-1 DSP).

Installation of win-7 64bit was successes completely.
But, I failed to 64bit drivers installation 2times.
That is;

1st trial: Latest driver installation

All drivers were downloaded from dell site selected by TAG No. and win7-64bit.
Driver Installation order is as follow:
This installation order is as indicated DELL Japan's document " 233492_ja".

1. DELL_SYSTEM-SOFTWARE_A01_R260746.exe
2. INTEL_CHIPSET-SOFTWARE-INSTA_A05_R302424.exe
3. RICOH_R5U24X_A04_R263985.exe
4. Intel_AMT-HECI_A01_R276873.exe
5. IDT_92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO_A17_R278544.exe
   (This is audio driver)
6. VistaWin7-64_15.22.58_2993_Dell_setup_ZPE.exe
   (This is video driver)
7. BROADCOM_57XX-GIGABIT-CONTRO_A07_R296615.exe

At System restarting after installation step 7, win-7 could not start and was shift to recovery installation mode, but system could not be recovered.

2nd trial: driver installation from RESOURCE disk

All drivers installed are packed in Resource Media P/N 4W4YG Rev.A01.

After system image recovery of 1st trial win-7 64bit clean install image, I installed drivers.
Driver Installation order was as follow:

1. DELL SYSTEM SOFTWARE : R260746 Rev.A01
2. INTEL CHIPSET SOFTWARE INSTALLATION UTILYTY: R257446 Rev.A02
3. RICOH R5U24X Rev.A04 :R263985 Rev.A04
4. Intel AMT-HECI Rev.A00 :R262412 REv.A00
5. IDT 92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO Rev.A14 :R260701 Rev.A14
   (This is audio driver)
6. Intel QM57/QS57 NB Gfx-Intel GMA HD Rev.A01: R260904 Rev.A01
   (This is video driver)
7. BROADCOM 57XX GIGABIT CONTROLLER Rev.A02: R260904 Rev.A02
8. Intel Intel(R) WiFi Link 6200 Rev.A00: R257239 Rev.A00
9. Dell Multi-touch touchpad RevA03: R262226 A03
After step 9, restarting system, I found in Device Manager screen, touchpad was marked with "!" and "code10".
To solve this problem, I installed latest driver "Dell Multi-touch touchpad A09", then tried to re-start system.
However, System could not start, and was shift to recovery installation mode.

Above 2 trials were failure, and I can't solve this problem.

Anyone, please teach me how to install win-7 64bit and drivers correctly.

XPS 9530 USB ports constant connection/disconnection/reconnection

HI all,

Thought I would check here before heading to a service centre. Had this laptop since May and it has always been 'funny' with USB devices. Flash drives and external drives seem to be fine as a rule, *but* hubs, mobile phones, tablets, USB -> LAN adapters constantly have issues. As soon as they are connected, the plugged in sound plays, then unplugged, and then it will connect/disconnect/reconnect randomly until it is unplugged.

I've tried the same devices in other laptops/systems running Win8.1 and all work fine, I've booted Linux on the XPS and get the same issues as in windows, so I'm leaning toward this being a hardware issue.

I'm on A05, but rolled back to A02 to try - same result. Has anyone else had this or similar?

Cheers

Inspiron N5110 nVidia GT 525M Crashing

I got my Inspiron 15R N5110 back in May.
Specs:

  • i3-2310M @ 2.1Ghz
  • 4GB DDR3 RAM
  • nVidia GT 525M - 1GB
  • Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit)

It was working fine and I've been very happy with it up until about half way through November. A few days after I bought Oblivion, when I was playing it it just froze and speakers kept playing the same small part over and over again (resulting in a kind of buzzing like thing/stuttering) and so I had to hold down the power button to turn off the laptop. Since then this continued to happen, with other games too - sometimes the games would stuttIer first before completely freezing so I could exit them before they froze completely. This past week, the problem has escalated - ten minutes into a game and it will freeze completely. This seems to happen with all games, from Heroes of Might and Magic V to Deus Ex Human Revolution.

It is the nVidia dedicated card that is the problem - the intergrated Intel graphics still works fine, as with the rest of the laptop. Sometimes the nVidia card gets "recovered" and so a hard restart isn't required, and a small few times I've gotten a BSOD.

To better try to see what the problem is, I got the FurMark benchmarking tool as that monitors the temp and such. It is very stressful, so I got it to see if it was stress that caused the card to crash, or temp. From my runs, the nvidia card has frozen between 68 and 73 degrees celcius, which it should be able to manage. I had looked online and people have had a similar problem before, with this card and some better cards like the 540M, and they found that underclocking the card stopped the freezing/crashing. So I underclocked my card using the nVidia System Tools, and the freezing still happened, however it took a tiny bit longer to happen. Some people had also said running on the battery and not having the AC adapter plugged in stopped the freezing too. I tried that, and the freezing hasn't happened. The temp still gets up to 68 degrees, but it takes longer to get there. I haven't tried for long, since the FurMark program is quite demanding I don't want my card to be further damaged. After trying with the battery and it worked, I had plugged it in to the power and tried again, but that time it didn't crash (I ran the program for 60 seconds) and the temp got up to 74 degrees at most. But since that time, it has crashed everytime when on AC.

When on the battery, the card is being throttled (3FPS on battery, vs 11 FPS on AC). However, since underclocking didn't work on AC, eventually on the battery it would probably freeze I would think.

I've got the latest drivers from Dell, and have uninstalled then installed them again with no change. The Dell Support Centre PC Checkup doesn't have anything to check the nVidia Card (just a PCI link check or something), so that's no help. However, performance of the card is the same as always and using the direct compute samples in the DirectX SDK, the results from the card is the same as the results from the CPU so it still works alright in every other aspect it would seem.

The laptop still has a warranty (less than a year old) so I'll try to get it fixed under that, just at the moment I don't have an external hard drive to back up all my data so I'm waiting till that comes because I need my data. (Thus, I haven't tried a factory restore yet).
If it is because of the temp, there would likely be a hardware fault since it should be able to run hotter than 73 degrees, and must have been able to previously. And if it's a hardware fault, the motherboard would have to be replaced.

Has anyone had this problem, and could they fix it without having to send away their laptop to get repaired?

Dell xps 15 l502x with gt540m graphics card keeps on crashing

I keep on having this problem where my laptop keeps on crashing the games themselves. There is no stutter or looping of the audio and the screen doesn't go black, the game simply just freezes on the last thing I was looking at. I can alt+tab out of it and everything.

I am currently using the stock drivers because I sent my laptop in for the issue where the whole computer would crash and would loop the sound, so when I sent it in they told me that the problem was because I was using the new drivers, so they switched me back to the stock drivers. I am almost certain this is a driver issue, if so is there a solution to this?

Battery Causing Visual Problem

Whenever I use my battery, without having the charger plugged in, my laptop display would occasionally have a fuzzy/static screen as the picture shown below.

However, when I plug my laptop with the charger adapter, with the battery still in or without the battery, everything is fine. Does anyone know why and how to fix this problem? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 3520.

My Dell Inspiron N5110 continues to freeze after about 5-10 minutes of use. I've run the diagnostics test, virus scans, etc and no problem has been found. If I turn the wireless off, it seems to work fine offline, but as soon I connect to the internet it doesn't take long to freeze. Is their a solution to this dilemma??

100%CPU-Unknown Cause

Ah.. hope this is the right place for this wierd problem.. Okay.. I come here after doing several things...
1: Full antivirus scan with Norton--(many people claim Norton to be the source of such a slowdown, I checked the processes-- even after Norton is disabled, the CPU use continues)
2: Adware scan with Ad-Aware-- (got rid of some stuff but no results to CPU)
3: Spyware scan with uh... Doctor Alex?(hey its freeware o.o; ) nothing found
4: Loaded Dell Support 3 and ran it.--no candy.
Now the problem is as follows... my computer will randomly force a program that is predominately running to max out whatever is left over of the CPU and it will switch when I switch the programs I'm looking at, even if the previous program is still running in the background.. I'm wondering if there is some application I can get that will check my drivers, and remove obsolete parts of drivers I thought I had uninstalled. (loose fragments) which could be part of the cause.

Dell Inspiron 15R N5110: USB 2.0 Ports

I've got a problem with my USB 2.0 ports. I thought it was the Power / USB daughter-board, but when I opened the computer to replace it I found that part of the shield from one of the ports had fallen off! It presumably caused a power short, as none of the USB 2.0 ports (or the Power USB on the side) are working. I can live with it, but has anyone got any idea where to look?

Dell Inspiron 15R N5110: Dell System Software

I've decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 to change to 64-bit. I've done hundreds of installs before, but I keep reading about Dell System Software being important as the first install. I thought I'd give it a try, but the install failed. I get very twitchy about failures this early in the install process, so started again. My normal procedure is to install the OS (in this case Windows 7 X64 SP1 Media Refresh), then install the Intel Chipset Driver (Intel HM67 Express Chipset Family), then the Network Card. At this point I stop installing hardware, and get all the latest Windows Updates. Do I really need to install DSS?

Dell Inspiron 1545 blank screen

Hi,

I've got a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop running Windows Vista.

Recently a problem has arisen in that when the lid is closed and then opened again at a later date and powered up, the backlight appears to light up but nothing appears on the screen. If I power off, remove the ac adapter, remove the battery, and then press the power button to remove all residual voltages from the motherboard, then refit the battery and power cable, and press the power button the laptop boots into Windows.

It appears that the problem lies when the lid is closed after it is powered off.

I have checked the 'Power Options' in Control Panel and disabled Sleep/Hibernate modes.

Has anyone else come across this problem? If so, did they manage to find out what the problem was? Is there a microswitch which is triggered when the lid is closed? My guess is that this is a hardware problem.

Many thanks,
Mark

I've decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 to change to 64-bit. My normal procedure is to install the OS, then install the Intel Chipset Driver (Intel HM67 Express Chipset Family). I've searched for hours on the Intel site, but I can't find the Intel Update Utility that specifies this chipset.

Am I going to have some problem for BIOS, AHCI option or detection of this drive? Any know problem in this Dell laptops with SSD drives?

Latitude D830 mounts HDD in 2.5" or 1.8"? I never opened it.

My Sons Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 Service Tag: CGG4JR1, Windows 7

It hasn't been used in a month, Battery was dead, charged over night (Batt at 100%) & started. and get the following....

"Windows error Recovery" Windows failed to start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause.it would keep doing this...even in Safe Mode.

I then launched start up repair, then I get this message "windows startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"

"System restore", I tried a system restore but had no restore points saved. I then restored to "Factory Install". Every thing went smooth but still goes to the same message "Windows error Recovery" at startup.

I then ran the ePSA diagnostics and everything passed. Rebooted & back to the "Windows error Recovery" screen

I then went to F2 at start up to check the boot sequence,

"Main" System time & Date are wrong. If I try to change them or anything it says "Setup is Locked! Enter the admin password into security -> Unlock setup to enable changes. I don't know this password & it wont let me Set Admin password on security page. <EDIT> I got password & fixed the date & time but still does the same thing.

Current boot sequence is

1- Diskette (which I dont have)

2- Hard drive

3- USB sorage device

4- cd/dvd/cd- rw drive

5- eSATA

6- Network

Any ideas??

Thanks!
