I have a Latitude E5520 and a Lattitude E5530, both have the O2Micro SD Memory Card Reader.  The reader worked fine in Windows 8, but after installing the 8.1 update, the SD card reader does not work at all when inserting a memory card.  There is no audible sound, no disk drive available in Windows Explorer, and in Device Manager, the O2 is not listed in "Storage Controllers" where it should be. 

There are two versions of the driver that I've found online on the Dell site, but neither one solves the issue.

I found this workaround, but it's not a very good one:

• In Windows 8.1, press Start button and type fix devices, and click Find and fix problems with devices in the results list.
• Click Next and allow it to check for problems.  It will come back with the option to enable the device Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 1C1A or something similar
• Click Apply this fix
• When done, close the troubleshooter and open Windows Explorer, and you should see the card reader
• In Device Manager, you should see O2Micro Integrated MMC/SD controller and O2Micro Integrated MS/MSPRO controller

Now, here's the bad news - after you reboot, or even go into sleep and come back out, the card reader is gone, and you have to do these steps over again.

If anyone has a permanent fix, I would love to know what it is!

After a lot of net searching I have found the solution.

It is not understandable why DELL does not provide drivers for Inspiron N5110 for Win 7 32 bit?

Me and a friend of mine recently got the Inspiron N5110 laptop with i3, 3gb, 500 gb. We installed win 7 64 bit as only its drivers were listed on the website.

But 64 bit causes problems while running hi-tech softwares like Matlab and Xilinx (Yes, I am an engineer ). So I had to move to win7 32 bit.

But Win7 32 bit drivers are not available on web. My friend got a solution for this. He found that almost all the win7 32 bit drivers for Vostro 3350 and 3550 are compatible for Dell Inspiron N5110. I download and installed them and they are working on my laptop very well.

You need the following drivers. The actual files are named like R161139,exe, no description. the description is added by me.

I've had to restart my laptop more often recently. I would open it up and the screen would just remain black. Restart always fixed it until this morning.

Laptop appears to power on (blue indicator LEDs, fan, etc). But screen remain blank nothing appears.

• I've performed the power/battery reset.
• I did a start up with D pressed, I got the flashing RGB screen.
• I opened the back, heated the Nvidia chip, dusted inside, reseated ram, applied new heat sink compound.

Still nothing, I beg that someone has a potential fix for this.

The last time I was using it the charger was plugged in, and then it just made a loud *click*, then shut off. Now It doesn't start up at all, and the two flashing lights on the keyboard don't flash either. Also I have to batteries to this laptop, and it makes no difference which battery i put in, it still has the same result. Please help, thanks in advance.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15-3521 and i just got a new charger for it after the last one broke. Yet anytime the charger is plugged in, the battery still decreases! My laptop says "Plugged In, Charging" but the battery life still goes down. I really need help with this problem.

Hi, 

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. 

Problem:

After two years, my laptop starts to have reduced performance in gaming and watching streaming videos. 

I did a factory reset. Everything seems fine. 

I did a test by installing Warcraft 3 which I played with no lag at all. 

After that, I started to install/ update the Graphic drivers, Windows updates and installed Starcraft 2.

Then I played Warcraft 3 to test the performance and it lags like for every 2 seconds in game. 

Please note that I test my system by playing WC3 after installing the following individual items:

Item 1: Graphics driver

Item 2: Windows updates

Item 3: Starcraft 2 

Please note that I did three (3) factory resets.

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 1, WC3 lags.

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 3, WC3 lags. 

  Please note that I did a hardware diagnostic test and I pass all the tests. 

I also did played around with: 

1) Power Settings 

2) Nvidia Control Settings and used the my graphic card instead of integrated video card.

But I am still facing the lag. 

At the moment, I am using my laptop at the factory settings and not installing any drivers or updates. 

Can the community please advise on how to troubleshoot my problem?

I purchased an Inspiron 14R from Staples 2/14/14.  I was pleased with it and later purchased 2 refurbished Latitude E6410s from Dell via eBay for our kids.

This past Saturday morning I started the pc and LOUD Beeps occurred.  I did not notice the number nor frequency.  It just kept beeping.  I was about to remove the battery but was able to shut it down.  It restarted without beeps and seems to be working fine thus far.  I did some online browsing about Dell Beeps and became VERY concerned.  I ran the Online PC Diagnostics that evening and no issues were found.

Online links to Tech Support Chat, Live Chat for Home and Tech Support email did not work.  All I rec'd was a 'Sorry' page.  I was able to use the Feedback option and gave my story and have yet to hear back.

Online said to go to Staples.  Stopped by Staples and they said deal with Dell directly.  Links were still 'Sorry' this evening.  I did a Google search and found another Dell Chat Tech support page but rec'd a Chat queue is currently closed.

I had previously planned to purchase another PC this week as a replacement to my current/older Toshiba backup.  My priority of getting another/current back-up pc is even higher now.  The Dell has been great.  I was considering another Dell but am a hesitant now.  

How can I feel secure that this PC will not fail prematurely?

Is it the model?

Why is it so hard to Chat/email Tech Support?

Hi Folks,

I'm close to pulling the trigger on an M3800.  I figure it would be cheaper for me to buy the base model and upgrade the drives myself.  I have a couple questions about the drive configuration.

I've never used an M2 device before.  Does an M2 SSD work the same as a 2.5" SSD?  If so, would I be able to load up the M3800 with one main SSD as my C: drive, and then have a 2.5" HDD as my D: drive?

If that is the case, are there any specs I should pay attention to for the M2 SSD, or will any M2 SSD work?

Finally, does the M3800 ship with discs or something with which I can reinstall Win 7 once I replace the drives?  If not, how would I go about installing Win 7 on it once I swap out the drives?

My Inspiron 15R n5110 laptop is 2-3 years old and it came with windows 7 installed. I installed Windows 8 after that. But when I upgraded to Windows 8.1, within few days I noticed I can't control brightness with Fn keys but other Fn keys work fine. What can I do to solve this problem?

Hello dear mates,

The problem started after I've forgotten to turn off my dell vostro 2521 for 3 days, it was on for 3 days and when I was back home, I've noticed the cpu is blocked to 100%.
First I restart, and I've noticed that the CPU is normal, but just after connected to the net, the CPU goes on 100.
I have 2 systems, and the problem occurs on the Windows 7 pro system.
After that I reboot on my Windows 8 system, and I've noticed that on Win 8 everything is normal.
Please I need your help as soon as possible, cause I use my Win 7 most of time.

Hi,

I've bought a Vostro 5470 couple days ago.After installing Windows 8.1 64-bit and all drivers listed in 5470 driver's page, everything is working fine except the Nvidia GT 740M. I tried many versions of driver including those from Geforce official site but none of them worked. When I tried to open the Nvidia control panel, it said something like "You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU"

Only Intel HD Graphic is currently working now. 

Are there any solutions for this?? Please help.

I've tried everything to fix this problem before asking for help here, but nothing seemed to work. Then I noticed on BIOS that this AC adapter isn't being recognized even though I've been using this same adapter since I got this laptop in March of 2012 (manufactured by Dell of course). Recently, like almost a month ago, it stopped charging completely and the speed of my browsers slow down considerably as a result. Currently I have 37% available battery left, and I was wondering if I should get a new AC Adapter. Or is it the batteries' fault?

I don't want to buy a replacement until I can confirm that this is truly the problem. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

I have a Dell N5110 laptop.

My Hard drive crashed a couple of weeks ago and I replaced it.

The system was working fine for a couple of days until while turning on today, a little smoke came out of the machine.

When I tried to turn it on again, it does not turn on and the lighted rim of the AC power cord i.e the light that is around the connector end of the cord, goes off!!!

I am at a loss as to why this would happen. Is there something wrong with my power jack? Or is it some kind of reverse voltage? I am not too sure.

If someone could please explain why this is happening and the resolution, it'd be a big help.

Hi,

my 6 month old Dell hung upon me today all of a sudden and is not booting after that. 

I kept seeing the Dell logo (without any progress bar), then a screen that said:

Checking media [Fail]

Checking media

No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine_

Please help

Doesn't seem to detect hard disk when I go into F8 everything else seems to be fine.

Dear all,

Recently there was a problem in my Dell XPS 12 and I had to use Dell factory reset to renew my windows 8.1. While I was doing factory reset my computer created a back up of all my personal files and save them in a folder called "20140701120559_BACKUP". Inside this folder there are so many ".INP" files and some XML files. When I open "include.xml" I can see the path for all my files. Sadly after my computer finished installing new windows it didn't restore my files and it restarted and came up with new windows. Now I am trying to restore my files but "Dell Back Up" and Restore application cannot find the back up and I cannot select manually that back up on my external hard drive. Then I did some search and I ended up that I can use a solution that was explained in this link:

Using this application I can select the back up in my external drive but when I press restore, I receive this error:

SoftThink SAS has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.

Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

And when I press close, it will close and nothing will happen!

Can anybody please help me to find a way to restore all my files?

Hi! last week I've purchased an Inspiron 15 7537 and yesterday the keyboard stop working.

The only keys that still works are the ones that turns on the backlight of the keyboard and the ones that increase or decrease ths screen brightness.

The touchpad also doesn't works.

Could anybody helps me to try to fix this problem?
