Hi!

I'm looking to get a set of the XPS 12 and connect the miniDisplayPort to my Dell 30" monitor which supports up to 2560x1600. I'm wondering if XPS 12's displayport support up to that resolution and most importantly, has someone tried it?

Thanks!

I am looking for the number of external displays my XPS12 can drive at 2560x1440 resolution. I have 3 27 inch Dell UltraSharp monitors currently being driven by a workstation with a GTX480 (2 monitors over DVI) and then a GeForce 9600 driving the 3rd... Wondering if the XPS12 can drive 3 monitors at 2560x1440 thanks!

Wireless Driver Installation says "Activate Bluetooth using wireless switch"

Hello everyone,

I have this problem of wireless in my 15R 5537. I upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 recently only to know that wireless driver was incompatible. I then visited the Dell support site and downloaded the wireless driver for the model i'm using and the OS installed. But when I tried to install it I got "Activate Bluetooth using wireless switch" error message.

I didn't know what wireless switch was since (fn+f2) was not working either. I came to know that there is wireless option in bios menu from various posts. But there was none in my laptop under "Advance" option in bios menu. I run bios version A08.

I tried to reinstall old windows 8(with a different CD this time) but wireless didn't work in this one either.

I am completely lost and don't find any relevent posts online.

Help me get through this please.

Thank You.

BIOS update download options?

I've noticed this with a couple of Dell latitude models, and this is more of a gripe than a question, but...

I have a Latitude E6410.  I wanted to update the BIOS to the latest BIOS (I currently have A02 version).  So I go to the downloads section on Dell's website.  They list two version available for download...A10 and A16.  I download A16 and try to run it.  It tells me I have to already have version A09 installed before it can update to A16.  A09 isn't listed as an option to download from the list, so I try to run A10, but it says the same thing.  If both A10 and A16 have a pre-requisite of A09, WHY doesn't dell include version A09 in the download list???  I know, I know...it's very simple to do a google search for "Latitude E6410 BIOS A09" and download it from the first google hit, but what is Dell thinking by not including this in the quick pick list on their download page if it's a pre-requisite?  Their driver download pages have always baffled me with odd things like this.

Battery not charging with power plugged and saying (plugged in, charging)

HI all,

I've got a battery problem on my XPS 15Z. Battery is not charging with power cable connected. The charger is identified by the laptop, the battery icon with plug symbol aside is shown and it refers: " (11% available (plugged in and charging)", however it is not charging!!!).

All configurations are ok, charging configuration is enabled on the Dell Battery Meter, on the bios everything is ok, however the battery apparently is not charging.

This problem started after having a Dell technician at home replacing my LCD (another incredible quality issue which I'd refer in another post). I've realized I was with my battery with 6% even being the power plugged!

I kept the laptop plugged for a full weekend and finally battery increased from 6% to 11% after more than 48h charging and not being used!

No one from Dell Support (Portugal) is able to understand what is going on. The only suspicious I have is if there is any cabling not properly connected or affected by the replacement of the LCD (almost all pieces of the laptop needed to be removed to replace the LCD).

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Thank you,

Luis Coutinho

Dell Inspiron M5030 - 7 beeps and black screen - processor failure

$

Hi,

I bought my Dell M5030 in February 2011, meaning that the warranty has expired. All was fine until I started the laptop up a couple of days ago and I got a black screen and 7 beeps, which according to the book means processor failure. I have tried several time to start the computer and the same thing happens each time.

I would appreciate any advice as I have seen on this forums that a number of other people have had the exact same problem with this particular model and therefore sounds like a fault with the processors in these Dell laptops.

Thanks

Overly Sensitive pad on keyboard

Got a new Dell Inspiron 15R in early January, and I am generally pleased with it, and am getting used to the Windows 8 on it, although I tend to go right to the desktop "app."  But here's the problem:

The touchpad on the keyboard is way too sensitive.  When I am typing, which is mostly what I do on this machine, my thumbs hover over that pad, and frequently trigger it even though I don't touch it.  Must be the heat of my hand.  Is there any way to desensitize it or turn it off, short of throwing it against the wall?  I use a wireless mouse, which I prefer over that pad anyway.  I can't be the only one with this problem.  HELP!

Trouble Device Drivers--Download OK, but Install stops at 98%

Specs: Inspiron N5110 Laptop, Microsoft 7 Home Premium, 64-bit

Problem:

I'm struggling to install driver updates on my system.

1) I googled and landed at Drivers and Download - Dell, product support linked to my service tag

2) I elected to find drivers based on system analysis, which found 7 drivers.

3) I clicked the install button and when prompted to select a folder for downloads, I made one on my desktop.

4) Drivers are successfully download and installs precede to 98% complete every.single.time. I've tried this about 6 times over the last two/three days, and let the installer run for up to three hours at a time. Still can't get past 98%. No error message shown.

Any advice to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Incompatible/unidentified Charger Dell Studio 1558

Hi Guys.. this is my first posting here.. I am a loyal and happy customer of Dell for 10 years for now. Bought 4 laptops so far..  The problem now I have is strange.

I got this Dell Studio 1558 abt 4 yrs ago.. got Windows 8 installed an year ago.. It was working fine. As I kept getting continuous popus to get free Windows 8.1, I said YES. :-) then started my problem.. this DELL 1558 stopped recognizing my original charger (power cord) that came with this laptop. Some error message said I need to use 90W charger.

But I was given (K9TGR  -  ADAPTER, ALTERNATING CURRENT, 65W, FLEXIBLE, 3P, CVD, WORLD WIDE)

Is this my mistake to get my Dell 1558 upgraded to Windows 8.1 ? I borrowed a 90W charger from a friend and now it started working fine.  Did anyone had similar experience?

Thanks - Lakshman

Blue Screen on boot ...problem with display driver ?

$

I have been using a Dell Inspiron 14R (N4110) laptop since 2010 without any issues.

The Laptop was purchased online from Dell and came with

1) Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and

2) AMD Radeon HD 6470M - 1GB display card.

Recently, I had a problem where my laptop just wouldn't boot up, showing the blue screen everytime it tries to boot up. The Blue screen mentions a problem with the atikmpag.sys file which I understand is the driver for the AMD video card.

If I remove/rename the atikmpag.sys and atikmdag.sys files (through safe boot mode) in C:/windows/system32/drivers, the laptop boots up (no blue screen), but obviously doesn't recognize the display card.

After a lot of unsuccessful debugging tries on my own (including trying to upgrade the display drivers etc.)., I reinstalled the OS and the drivers that came with the original kit (just to remove any possibility of an upgrade gone bad). However, I still see the issue.Sad

Does this mean there is a hardware problem ? or a BIOS issue ?

Thanks,

R.B.

Dell XPS 15 9530 stuck at start screen with dell logo

Hi,

my Dell XPS 15 9530 has stopped booting up. It was working fine yesterday and now today it has just decided to stop.

Now i have been reading through other forums on the matter which say press F1, F2 or F12 etc. but these don't seem to work. If I press F1 a blue loading bar appears and goes to the end and a small black box covers over the F2 setup and F12 Boot Option text in the bottom right hand corner. If i press F2 the loading bar fills immediately and the F2 Setup text highlights white and then freezes. The same happens when I press F12.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

Dell Inspiron N7010 Switching off with Thermal Events

$

I have a customer which had a issue with Windows 7 64bit, where after the SP1 it would switch off, blue screen on startup.  Dell Support advise me there was an issue with SP1 and some Dell models, we restored it to an earlier time.  But one thing he did ask was it over heating, which made me think does this have an potential design fault.

Anyway that was 6 months ago, we disable SP1 from download again, and did all the Dell updates they recommended.

Today same symptons, even switching off before Startup Repair starts (and no Service Pack 1 installed).  It has the latest firmware.  Even though it had been off all night, i noticed with the issue this morning, that we had the following in the event viewer

Record Number     : 85365
Log Type          : System
Event Type        : Information
Time              : 18/10/2011 13:51:50

Event ID          : 89
User Name         : SYSTEM
Computer          : Doug-LAPTOP
Event Data Length : 0
Record Length     : 304
Event Description : ACPI thermal zone ACPI\ThermalZone\TZ01 has been enumerated.                _PSV = 368K                _TC1 = 0                _TC2 = 2                _TSP = 1000ms                _AC0 = 344K                _AC1 = 328K                _AC2 = 0K                _AC3 = 0K                _AC4 = 0K                _AC5 = 0K                _AC6 = 0K                _AC7 = 0K                _AC8 = 0K                _AC9 = 0K                _CRT = 373K                _HOT = 0K                _PSL - see event data.

The Startup Repair did event work again, and we made sure all updates (not SP1) were installed and did not have the issue.  I double checked the firmware was still the latest and did a Hard Disk Check.

Is anyone else having this issue with this model, as i found it strange that Dell mentioned the overheating, even thought it is a cold start, been left off when we had the original issue with SP1????

Thanks

XPS L502X keyboard problem space bar and down arrow

$

In the last couple of weeks my keyboard has started to act up. I am running the My Dell diagnostic program and the space bar is reading as down AND space and the down arrow is reading as down AND space. I did clean off the connectors and even replaced the keyboard and have had no luck fixing the issue.

There are no keyboard short cuts on or anything like that either. Does this mean it is a motherboard problem since everything in these laptops is part of the mobo? Should I try to open it up and see if something looks out of place? I never opened up the laptop until I replaced the keyboard last week. Any help would be appreciated.

Win 8 System Reset

After having failed windows 8.1 update numerous times (it stalls at 28% during "Setting up a few more things"), and exhausting all possibilities I could find over a period of 2 months, I attempted to reset Windows 8 using the built in system reset utility. This resulted in error code 0x0000225 entitled "Your PC Needs Repair". This has occurred with 2 hard drives. The original 1Tb drive and a 500Gb drive recovered from a backup image using Easeus ToDo Home.

I have digital camera pics of the various screens if that would be helpful.
