Dell XPSL502X Running very Slowly Need Help!

$

I have a Dell XPS l502x that I recently reinstalled the operating system on. I did a clean install and formatted the hard drive ahead of time, however I did not format the system partition of the hard drive. That being said after formatting and installing the OS I reinstalled all necessary drivers after some difficulty until at this point in my device manager it does not show any drivers as being out of date or unrecognized Windows updated to service pack 1 and all necessary updates. Since the beginning the computer has been running very slowly as if there were no RAM however the system does detect the 8 gigabytes of RAM and says that it is usable, the paging file size is set to the recommended amount and I can't figure out what it is that is causing the problem. The system also does not seem to be overheating. Could I have possibly installed an incorrect driver? It seems as if the cpu is spiking up and down every time I try to open anything. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! Craig.

BitLocker and Secure Boot on Latitude E7440

I'm attempting to enable BitLocker on a Latitude E7440 running Windows 8.1. The system is in UEFI mode with Secure Boot enabled, so I'd like to use Secure Boot for integrity validation. I have the appropriate GPO set, but if I try to enable the TPM protector, I get the following warning event in the BitLocker-API management event log: BitLocker cannot use Secure Boot for integrity because the expected TCG Log entry for variable 'SecureBoot' is missing or invalid. This is immediately followed by: BitLocker determined that the TCG log is invalid for use of Secure Boot. The filtered TCG log for PCR[7] is included in this event. The system therefore ends up configured with a regular platform validation profile instead of using Secure Boot. Is this a problem with the firmware on the Atmel TPM on the system, or is it something else?

Latitude E5430 - Problems with fan control

$

Hi, I just bought a Latitude E5430 expecting to get some Dell Business notebook Quality. I am using Windows 8 x64 (in UEFI-mode) with BIOS A09 and the latest Drivers available from dell.com.

The issue that I am encountering is that as soon as the fan turns on, it does not turn off for a long time (blowing out cool air), even though there is no high system load (just Internet Explorer opened) and the temperature is below 50C.

Basically, the fan starts at some temperature threshold, cools down the CPU to 38-40C, and even though the running fan does not cause the CPU to cool down more, it keeps running for a long time (10 minutes and counting) (while the CPU temperature constantly stays at 38-40C). :-(

Please forward this issue to the BIOS development department so that they can provide an update which improves fan control.

Everyone also having this issue, please have a look at this post from Dell-Terry B:

7720 not booting, white screen

I have a 7720 (17R SE) that I hadn't used in a few days. Worked fine the few days prior. When I powered it on, I got a white screen. No dell logo, nothing. All white screen. So I removed the hard drive, reseated it, also reseated the RAM. I removed the keyboard, and tried firing it up, and realized the fan wasn't working, the hard drive was not spinning up, even the optical drive wasn't spinning up or clicking. I have checked all the cables on top of the motherboard while the keyboard is out, and cannot get anywhere. Does anyone know of what may have gone wrong, and what I can do to fix it? Any help will be great, and I can do more diagnostics if I can get some direction.

Thanks

I upgraded the bios to the latest one under win8 already.

plugged in not charging ? bios flash without battery ?

laptop : Dell XPS M1530

had it only for a year or less.

battery was fine until two days ago, plugged in, not charging , stuck at 4%.

did a LOT of research online, tried all the methods & combination of removing / reinstalling ,...etc. none worked.

read that if i flash bios then it should work. problem is that i can not flash bios since battery is (perceived by the system) less than 10% .

how to fix this ???

would system restore / restore to factory settings resolve this ?

please help . i'm quite sure the battery it self is fine and this is rather a software thingy.......
can't be the power adapter, when I ran the diagnostics it is clear for the adapter, and the system is working fine if the adapter alone is plugged in, tried different wall outlets, no difference.
- the messages i get:
If only adapter plugged in : "The AC adapter and battery MUST be plugged in before the system bios can be flashed"

If adapter and battery plugged in : "Make sure the battery is more than 10% charged to flash bios"

..............please help !

AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined

The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:

-Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operation

-Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher.

Hi, I have been getting this problem since yesterday. It seems my laptop is not charging when ac power adapter is connected, but batter power is not reduced( it does not go down from 14%). My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 and I purchased it on September 2013. I already tried BIOS update and any other drive updates, but that has not solved problem. (In BIOS setting, it says UNKNOWN)

plugged in, not charging

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 in April 2008.

About 1 month ago I noticed that my computer would automaticaly shut down when the power cord was removed, I hovered over the battery icon in the bottom right corner and it said 0% available plugged in, not charging.

I googled the phrase plugged in, not charging and realised lots of people were having the same problem.

I have tried

  • restarting and shutting down my computer (with and without battery and with and without power cord)
  • removing and replacing my battery (while laptop is on and off)
  • a replacement battery from Dell
  • my sister's battery and power cord (she also has a 1525)in my laptop and get the message plugged in, not charging. My battery in her laptop will charge but my power cord in her laptop says plugged in, not charging
  • removing the battery with the laptop on then restarting the laptop and replacing the battery
  • uninstalling and reinstalling the Power Management Software
  • switching between power plans
  • flashing with current bios

All 3 batteries (hers, my original and my replacement) have adequate charge (50% or higher)

I run with Windows Vista Home edition

Can anyone help me or suggest anything else?

I have been to the local Dell distributer and they tell me to call Dell.  I have tried calling Dell but I keep getting put on hold for 30+ minutes.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Touchpad gestures/scrolling/pointer not working after windows 8.1 update on Dell Inspiron 11 3137

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.

Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.

At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.

Can anybody help with this?

Battery plugged in, not charging...(found the fix that worked for my Dell Inspiron

$

Well, the charger is plugged in, but it says not charging. This has happened twice. I would have thought bad battery or bad charger, except luckily the first time it occured right after buying a new hard drive. I did a hard reset on the battery and that worked.

Now, it has happened again. I tried the regular battery reset, but that did not work. I tried uninstalling device and reinstall..did not work either.

Oddly, what did work was the following:

I had about 38% battery left. I unplugged the power cord from both laptop and wall outlet.

I removed the batter. Computer went dead.

I wiped the battery connectors with a clean cloth several times.

I put the batter back in and turned the laptop on with battery only.

I plugged power cord into side of laptop, then into wall outlet.

Immediately, the laptop began charging again!

I am not sure why this worked. Maybe some techy out there may know. When I tried the battery reset, I turned the computer off before taking out the battery. Then took it out. Plugged in laptop with power cord and powered it. Then shut down and placed battery in. I turned back on..but nothing...

It may have to do with having the laptop already on when taking out the battery, or placing back the power cord, or could just be the wiping the battery with cloth????

Dell inspiron 11 3000 stuck at dell logo - Doesn't boot / Dell support doesn't recognise my express service code

Hi,

I purchased a Dell inspiron 11 3000 recently and it doesn't boot normally. The laptop is stuck at the start-up dell screen. I have tried the solutions mentioned in another forums but nothing works for me.

The boot option is already at AHCI mode and I am unable to change it. (it is freezed it seems)

Whenever I start the ePSA, no problem is reported and after that automatically sometimes it starts booting. This is a really really bad experience, I was never expecting this problem to be there.

Please help me with this because the DELL SUPPORT doesn't recognise my express service code.

I have no idea whom to contact regarding this problem.

Hoping for a reply.

Thanks

Studio 1737 Windows 7 Bluetooth driver download...

$

Hello,

Since I've lived through this frustrating nightmare I thought I'd put this in the forum so others might not have as difficult a time.

This is in reference to: Finding, downloading and installing a Windows 7 compatible bluetooth (Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Minicard) driver on a Dell Studio 1737 laptop .

I bought my 1737 with 64-bit Vista on it, which worked fine, with a coupon for an upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 when it was available.

Here's the thing, the Windows 7 upgrade disks DO NOT include a driver for the bluetooth and no Windows 7 bluetooth drivers are listed on the Dell driver download site. The Vista drivers do not work under 7.

After much searching and screwing around I finally found this:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats/Product/alienware-m17x-r2?DriverId=P4XW4&FileId=2935066754&urlProductCode=False

Dell file R246770.exe

It lists it's compatibility as:

Systems
Alienware Laptop M17xR2
Latitude E6400
Operating Systems
Windows 7 32-bit
Windows 7 64-bit

However it installs and works fine on a Dell Studio 1737 running 64-bit Windows 7.

I hope this helps anyone having the same issue.

Reinstalled Windows 7 Professional on Latitude E6510 and 3 drivers are missing

I Reinstalled Windows 7 Professional on Latitude E6510 and 3 drivers are missing. In the Device Manager they are located under:

"Other Devices"

  1. Broadcom USH - missing driver
  2. Unknown Device - missing driver
  3. Unknown Device - missing driver

Also there is no Sub Heading in Device Manager for CD/DVD Drives.

Is this an issue with Microsoft Windows 7 Professional?  Can anyone help me to resolve?

Thank you in advance!
