Dear Dell Coleagues,
I've got Vostro 3550 with HD6630M.
ATI claims they released two types of Radeon HD6630M - 2048MB @ DDR3 and 1024MB @ GDDR5. In my Vostro I checked this by several apps and each one of them shows there is Radeon HD6630M 1024MB @ DDR3 ! :/ Who made mistake? :)
There is a switchable GPU (Intel HD + ATI HD6630M) and there is a huge issue with drivers for these GPUs. First - there is no possibility to install drivers from official Intel and AMD websites. When I try to install official drivers, the installer shows error message that graphic card was not found. I can install Dell's modified drivers 8.901.1.1,A10 in no time, but they are made on April 10th 2012, so they are quite old and lack in performance.
At the end of May 2013 ATI released Catalyst 13.4 drivers - impossible to install on Dell Vostro due to "no graphic card found" error message. Instead of these drivers, if I want to keep my drivers up to date, I have to use Leshcat drivers. There is no issue with them, they can be installed anytime, from scratch or even if Dell's drivers are already installed. Leshcat drivers increase the performance a little, but they also makes my laptop hot more (a lot), even up to 80 Celsius degrees (176 F degrees) in full stress (like Battlefield 3 or Assassin's Creed 3).
So, based on above, I've got two simple questions:
1. How is it possible that in my Vostro 3550 there is HD6630M 1024MB @ DDR3, although ATI released 1024MB @ GDDR5 and 2048MB @ DDR3 only?
2. When Dell is going to take care about Vostro users and make proper drivers for GPU that will be up to date and could be installed automatically (via Windows Update, like at all other computers)?
This is ridiculous that so professional company (as Dell is for sure) does so unprofessional drivers support and poor customer experience. I'd like to kindly remind Dell Computer's mission statement is: "Dell's mission is to be the most successful computer company in the world at delivering the best customer experience in markets we serve. In doing so, Dell will meet customer expectations of: Highest quality, Leading technology, (...), Best-in-class service and support, (...)". Am I blind or do they play dumb with me?
With best regards.
